The Israeli army are using aid centres as target practice.

The Israeli government is proposing building a 'refugee' centre in Rafah with an extra special feature - no one is allowed to leave.

How can this be squared with the image of a modern country competing on the world stage .

According to many posters they are just fringe extremists and don't represent the Israeli people who don't support them at all. It is all down to a proportional representative voting system apparently. From what I can tell they seem to have a hell of a lot of influence and power so no not fringe extreme ideas pretty mainstream and influential.

There were 62 Knesset members who voted for this, and 48 who did not. But there may be a chance to repeal it by the Israeli Supreme Court. Will be interesting to see what the Court does.

« The Association for Civil Rights in Israel has already petitioned the country's Supreme Court against the law.
"The law is unconstitutional, discriminatory by design and - for West Bank Palestinians - enacted without legal authority," it said in a statement. »

EU countries have already expressed their concerns over the legislation.

I edited my post above, as originally I said I thought Ben Gvir was Ashkenazi Jewish, and I referenced him as hating non-white people. But, I looked him up, and turns out he's of Iraqi origin. I find that incredibly sad then that he's become such an anti Palestinian racist, as apparently Jews, Muslims and Christians lived side by side peacefully for centuries. I wonder what happened to him to make him do vile and hateful?

Israel will keep control over Lebanon.
So here we have it Gaza mark 2 .
You'd think the very clever people there would realize that the are the ones damaging Israels security by taking over other countries. 600,000 people now displaced and 1200 dead and they have the cheek to say it's to protect Israel.

It's almost like the want another generation of terrorists so they can justify the expansion plans.

Plumes of smoke rise from the site of an Israeli airstrike on the village of Zawtar al-Sharqiyah in southern Lebanon.

Israel says it will keep control over part of southern Lebanon after war with Hezbollah ends

Defence Minister Israel Katz also says houses in Lebanese villages near the Israeli border will be demolished.

BelleHathor · 01/04/2026 09:37

It's genocidal delusion, the image Katz is projecting is far from reality. South Lebanon is currently a Merkava (Israeli) tank graveyard, with dozens destroyed and several casualties.

In fact this warning was issued last week:
Israel’s Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir issued a stark warning to the country’s cabinet this week: unless urgent measures are taken, the Israeli army is on the brink of collapse.

According to a report by Israel’s Channel 13 on Thursday, Zamir told ministers that he was “raising 10 red flags”, urging the government to move quickly on long-delayed legislation to alleviate the strain on its “exhausted”

https://aje.news/bx4h3x

What we are witnessing is a collapsing society, the brutality, the multi front wars, the death penalty law.

Interesting belle..I have always wondered how Israel have been sustaining the human and financial aspects of waging multiple wars ..it's a relatively small country.

Attitudes in America have been changing. It is clear that if standards of living drop due to the offensive or if multiple coffins draped in stars and stripes are shown on TV the billions that Israel has been propped up with are not guaranteed in the future.

You wonder what happened to him?

Agree he is a vile human being but I expect 7/10/23 hardened his stance. Along with many other Israelis attitudes to the death penalty for terrorists who want to eradicate Jews.

Ellen2shoes · 01/04/2026 12:05

This death penalty is for Palestinians only @Twiglets1. By this law, literally any Palestinian could be deemed a terrorist.

Over 70,000 Gazans killed in Gaza, thousands still buried in rubble and being bombed daily since the ‘ceasefire’, survivors living in total hell as Israel ensures there is no sewage system, sanitation or healthcare, Israeli terrorists killing raping and beating thousands of Palestinians on a daily basis in the OT - and you are citing October 7th as justification. Yet nothing justifies October 7th I find it disgusting.

No he was always a vile human being, 7/10/23 just emboldened him to keep pushing his dehumanising death to Arabs stance. No one with the attitudes he has should be any where near government legislation or have an oversight on policy.

Along with many other Israelis attitudes to the death penalty for terrorists who want to eradicate Jews.
What about the Israelis that want to eradicate Palestinians? mainly in the west bank? You state this with the presumption that due process will be followed and convictions will be sound and accurate. If this law existed in the UK in the 70's the Guildford 4, Birmingham 6 and others wrongly convicted of terrorism would have been executed

Twiglets1 · 01/04/2026 12:57

There’s a separate thread on this issue so I’ll stick to discussing it on there.

Posted on this thread by accident, will unwatch it again.

I genuinely don't understand why my post above was deleted?
I was criticising Gvir and the far-right in Israel. Not all Israelis; I made that clear; and I made it very clear that I condemn anti-Semitism. Very odd 🤷‍♀️

You do realise that you don't have to do much to be accused of terrorism if you're Palestinian? Israeli jails are full of innocents. Kids who threw stones, journalists, medics etc.
October 7th was horrific of course. But, Palestinians have been oppressed since the nakba; and Gvir & co were nasty racists long before October 7th. They're using it as an excuse to do the kinds of things they've long wanted to...

Martymcfly24 · 01/04/2026 14:11

Gvir is and for many years a massive fan of Rabbi Kahane. He prayed at his grave last year and has been quoted admiring him long before October 7th.
Kahane is the extremist who set up the Jewish Defence League. One of the members of this league was arrested on Friday in New York for plotting to murder a Palestinian American.

Terrorism comes in many forms

ScrollingLeaves · 01/04/2026 18:45

Imagine if all the Israelis who have killed the how-ever-many latest thousands of innocent dead Palestinians got the death penalty,

RandomWordsThrownTogether · 01/04/2026 23:57

They’ve decided they’re hanging on to a bit of the Lebanon too now - how history repeats and repeats and repeats! And you get people who are so shocked and surprised because that is so unlike Israel! And they say things like “surely not” and “they wouldn’t”. But those who read the news and see the patterns know it’s just another case of the see you next tuesdays doing what they do.

While we are embroiled in the debate on attacks on Iran, Israel is continuing its occupation of Lebanon and the destruction of its society with very little media coverage.

Katz describes Israel’s occupation of Lebanon is set to continue in accordance with the model in Gaza. Bombing and displacing with impunity.

In an interview on Sunday with LBCI, an Israeli military spokesperson, Maj Doron Spielman, said that “every home in southern Lebanon, the Shiite homes, are command centres”

If the south is permanently occupied and residents prevented from returning, analysts have predicted social and political disaster in Lebanon, where most of the population lived in poverty even before the beginning of the current war.

It’s already happening aka ‘Buffer zone’

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/mar/31/israel-vows-occupy-large-parts-southern-lebanon-expand-buffer-zone

Ellen2shoes · 02/04/2026 00:44

I don’t know much about this but I find the reference to ‘Shiite homes’ alarming in its specificity against a religious group. Didn’t the Taliban in Afghanistan and ISIS amongst others target Shia? Aren’t Hazara, for example, Shia? Didn’t many Shias settle in Iran to escape persecution elsewhere?

Have spoken to Shia Afghan refugees who settled in Iran and are terrified of being ‘scapegoated’ again. Their words.

It's a deliberate tactic to sow sectarian discord.

Especially in Lebanon where it was some Christian Maronites who collaborated with the Israelis who had invaded Lebanon and executed the Sabra and Shatila massacre in 1982 under the IDFs watchful eyes and lighting.

Its also a useful tool to divide the region originally employed by the British in the early 19th century, to keep parties fighting so that the British could control the Oil,

Fast forward to today and you get what you mentioned above with violence against Shia.

It really can be a sight to observe, I have heard an extreme Sunni minority refuse to empathise with Lebanese in the South because they are Shia. For a few their sect is more important.

Well some EU nations have sent a strongly worded letter....

https://www.thejournal.ie/ireland-among-nations-to-say-it-is-appalled-by-escalation-of-violence-lebanon-7001208-Apr2026/

The UN’s top humanitarian official Tom Fletcher's account on it is very worrying Lebanon is facing one of its most dangerous moments in years, with escalating violence, mass displacement and deepening human suffering pushing the country to “breaking point”.

Edited

Then the other side of that buffer zone, where Lebanese will still be, will, according to Israel, be covered in ‘Command and Control’ centres. So they’ll need to bomb that to oblivion to make a new ‘buffer’ zone.
