Gary Lineker - he really had to go and a warning t against virtue signalling

Maybe Gary Lineker's departure acts as a warning for this not acquainted with history to go around randomly reposting pro Palestinian links though I suspect he is not the only one. In a way it is a sad demise to a career but an absolutely necessary one and a timely warning that a proportion of P Palestinian supporters are anti semites.

for to say I didn't like the Gaurdian 's take that the BBC were looking to sack Gary anyway and he just have them an excuse.

Who lies?...politicians, the media?

Since you ask - another true national treasure now sadly off the BBC but one of the finest comedians of his generation and never knowingly unfunny.

How rude. No need for that.

Oh I beg your pardon maybe you just didn’t read the post properly

I agree. Or even how the Chinese regime treats the Muslim minority group.

It’s funny, isn’t it, how people somehow manage to campaign against the genocide of the Uigher people without drawing racist cartoons of Chinese people or using crude racist stereotypes when talking about the perpetrators?

It's actually been quite nice for a controversial thread that no-one has got rude and personal.
So apology accepted.
Let's move on.

Off the BBC? He was recently on Richard Osman's House of Games.

The smear campaign has begun. As Steve Bannon once said of Trump’s strategy: “Flood the zone with shit - create so much noise and misinformation that people no longer know what to believe. Next, they’ll be comparing him to Goebbels. That’s how these tactics work.

Damn I missed that but then I don't watch the BBC or any tele and don't have a licence. I shall seek him out. First saw him at the Comedy Store where he was MC back in 1980 and have been a fan ever since.

@CurlewKate - "where are all the Jewish voices?"
What? Why should Jewish people be put under pressure to speak out? Would you expect Muslim people to speak out on any events occuring in Islamist regimes? After 9/11?
No. It's not their responsibility. Don't have that expectation of Jews, or worse, criticise them for not speaking out.

I know that there are many Jewish people who are also horrified by the genocide and who emphatically do not support Netanyahu. It was their voices I was referring to.

MrsMitford3 · 19/05/2025 18:11

I loathe him but may be influenced by football loyalty.

I loathe him even more for his casual comment that men playing in women's sport won't really be a problem.

Not your rights to give away Gary

There was a ceasefire, which was broken on Oct 7th .
If anyone can broker a lasting ceasefire, that would be excellent. A good move would be freeing the hostages.
Why are there still hostages? I don't understand.

Israel bombed Gaza for 3 days a week before Oct 7. Over 30 Palestinian children were killed by Israel that year prior to Oct 7 and 100s of adults. Multiple pogroms happened by terrorist settlers under the protection of the IDF in the West Bank in 2023 prior to Oct 7. Children were being tortured and sexually assaulted in Israeli prisons prior to Oct 7. It's a myth that there was a ceasefire on Oct 7. If people think Israelis being raped and murdered would constitute breaking a ceasefire then they must surely agree that Israel broke whatever ceasefire they thought existed first by raping and murdering.

There are still hostages because Israel decided not to move onto the next phase of the ceasefire agreement and broke the ceasefire with mass killings in March. Hamas, the terrorists, aren't giving Israel the only thing stopping them from completely decimating Gaza without a ceasefire agreement. Have you not been following this at all?

sualipa · 19/05/2025 18:29

And Jimmy Carr of Holocaust joke fame gets to host an Israeli reception in London. Go figure....

And saying that trans people are the most oppressed people in the world. I would say that’s women in Afghanistan but he was silent when England hosted Afghanistan in cricket.

Why did you think he was off the BBC? I've seen him on other things as well. The ROHOG is probably on iPlayer. Very funny.

"have you not been following this at all"
No need to get personal.
Yes, I have been following it, but I would have thought that a good way to move forward would be to free the hostages, but maybe that's just me. Perhaps I am viewing it too optimistically.

Held in the British Museum, the perfect place for a party for colonisers that won't return what's rightfully belongs to another land.

sualipa · 19/05/2025 18:58

You left out the part where he kills babies in his spare time—for fun, no less! A monster by any measure. When Danny Cohen was a senior figure at the BBC, he should’ve put on his Witchfinder General hat and shut this down before it ever got started. I blame him.

GL is NOT ant-Semitic he’s just a normal person horrified at the genocide happening in front of us.
well done to him on a successful career and also his morals and standing up for a cause he believes in

Exactly !!
What a ridiculous reason to start a thread

Fair play to GL for speaking out

BBC is an utter disgrace

You can speak up against the genocide without repeating anti Semitic tropes. Plenty of people manage to do this. Shame Lineker didn't.

Your truth, perhaps.

Meanwhile I have received 17 ‘agreed’ emojis, so a number of MN’ers clearly agree with me.

Nice try though.
