You realise it is possible to criticise Israel without being antisemitic? Its worth trying to understand this.

If you understood my post then you would know that is the point i am making.

Oh I understand. What you don't seem to understand is that sometimes people criticising Israel are doing so from a position of antisemitism. They are not being called antisemitic just because they criticise Israel. Its a subtle distinction, but an important one.

I'm not sure how you reached this conclusiom on my understanding, unless you also think Gideon Levy is anti-semitic.

Whatsinanamehey · 10/01/2025 16:19

Need to add Gideon Levy to the list now of people or organisations labelled antisemitic for criticising Israel.

And Norman Finkelstein and Chomsky. In fact, if you dare to criticise the Israeli government you are automatically antisemitic.

No, you are not automatically antisemitic if you criticise the Israeli government. That would be ludicrous.

We know that you know that criticising Israel is not in itself automatically antisemitic. Therefore to pretend otherwise can only come from a position of bad faith.

I link AGAIN the IHRA definition.

https://holocaustremembrance.com/resources/working-definition-antisemitism

What is antisemitism?

With the IHRA working definition of antisemitism, the IHRA built international consensus around an answer to the question, what does antisemitism mean?

Correct, and much respect to Queen Elizabeth, unlike many politicians she stayed committed to never condoning/forgiving the extra judicial murder of British citizens. I mean how could anyone break bread with people who kidnapped British soldiers, murdered and booby trapped their bodies to explode.
http://britishpalestinepolice.org.uk/polhist44.html

British soldiers were kidnapped and executed in Ireland, including during the sectarian conflict known as "the Troubles": Even so, our late queen Her Majesty and former IRA commander Martin McGuinness shook hands in later years.

Forgiveness is an active process that involves changing your attitude and feelings towards the person who wronged you. Without that there will never be peace.

I respect our late Queen for her compassion and forgiveness. I don't believe she wouldn't have held out her hand to Israelis or Palestinians to help resolve this conflict in Gaza.

Hate can cause stress, anger, and resentment, which can negatively impact the world at large.

This thread has none absolutely nothing but inflate hate and tension.

She understood the complexity of the situation and also knew that British soldiers and the British state colluded with paramilitaries to murder Northern Irish citizens.

Yes, it is my opinion, and I would like to express it.

You started this thread and posted an interview with an Israeli journalist who blatantly accuses ALL Israelis of living in denial, being brainwashed and living under the belief that all of the Palestinians are terrorists and are Hamas.

I don’t know what motivated you to post this, as you didn’t make a personal comment about the Gideon Levy interview.

The first response to this thread said, ‘very informative and gives a context to this war, and a description of the attitude of the Israelis

Again, no response from you.

But then the direction of the conversation changed. Others started to criticise Israel, Israelis and the IDF.

That’s when you commented, ‘I think the late queen viewed the Israelis as "terrorists or sons of terrorists”, and I would like to add she made the distinction between being Jewish and being Israeli’.

That made me laugh. I believe it was your attempt to distance yourself from any accusation of prejudice or antisemitism.

You then posted a video that showed random members of the Israeli public being interviewed and expressing their thoughts and feelings about the conflict since the attack on 7th October. Of course, there were criticisms of Palestinians and Hamas; what would you expect?

It got the response you wanted. More and more comments were posted about how Israelis want ethnic cleansing, nuking Gaza, the taking of more land, etc.

I believe you initiated this thread not to educate but to vilify your disparaging feelings about Israelis. As soon as you got pushback, you falsely accused two MNs of calling you antisemitic.

I stand by what I said. This thread has achieved absolutely nothing but inflates hate and tension, not resolution, understanding or peace.

For future reference, the State of Israel maintains a national population registry in which every resident is classified by both "citizenship" and "nationality." The citizenship of all Israelis is listed as "Israeli." However, under "nationality," they are defined as belonging to different ethnic and religious groups, among them Jewish, Arab, and Druze.

@GentleScroller brilliant and accurate. Same old same old.....
Wonder how many Israelis they know? (Now expecting some anecdotal story with some tenuous link)

LoremIpsumCici · 13/01/2025 15:31

Hmm I don’t see the same kind of response from certain posters when it is interviews with other Israeli journalists or far right politicians posting their opinions on the prevailing views of the general Israeli public.

Almost like Gideon Levy must be silenced despite being a prominent, award winning Israeli journalist living in Tel Aviv known for writing on human rights issues for decades. He won the top journalism award in Israel in 2021, the Sokolov Award. This isn’t a just “any journalist” with no cachet and no reputation. Yes, his comments on the impact of military censorship and the suppression of the freedom of the press in war time Israel causing a brainwashing of the opinions of the general public are pertinent and unsurprising.

Historically, that is what happens in a war torn country, the press becomes an engine of propaganda. It isn’t antisemitic to point out that the Israeli public living in Israel are not getting the same facts, the same footage we are getting and so are by and large going to have a different opinion on the war in Palestine.

Whatsinanamehey · 14/01/2025 16:11

From Blinken's speech today

In Israel, there is almost no reporting on the conditions in Gaza and what people there endure every day.”
This dehumanization is one of the greatest tragedies of the conflict.

I remember listening to a program on radio 4 about how very little was shown of Gaza on Israeli tv. Why. you have to wonder.
To be fair, if Israelis wanted to know what is happening in Gaza. I am sure they have the internet to inform themselves.
In 2025, no one can say "we didn't know" .

And what does Levy think about only 33 of the remaining 98 hostages still held by Hamas being released instead of all if them?

stomachamelon · 14/01/2025 20:50

And you have hit the nail on the head with Gideon Levy's grift...

No newspaper would print an article stating 'scientist states vegetables are healthy'. The scientist that gets published is the one stating ' vegetables are dangerous and we should eat more sugar'

In the same vein a Jew stating that Israel has the right to exist and the hostages need to be returned in full doesn't get speaking engagements or interviews.

A Jew who advocates for Israel becoming a Muslim- led, Muslim majority one state is the one that gets to speak at a concert hall and collect a hefty pay check aka it ain't that deep. (He was also pro Netanyahu for a while whilst it wasn't cool)
