Conflict in the Middle East
BelleHathor · 07/01/2025 22:36

@mollyfolk I know about the Queen and Martin McGuiness a strategic and forgiving gesture on both sides.

I was specifically talking about Palestine/Israel and correcting the record regarding terrorism in the region. As quite a few people kept repeating that Palestinians are "terrorists" and using this as an excuse for the atrocities being committed against them today.

There will be even less of a chance of peace in the future unless these historical acts are addressed and reconciled.

It is so easy, and not very clever, to surf the web and find snippets of information to target a specific group of people. I am referring to Israeli Jews.
I heard it on radio 4 so no, I didn't scroll the net as you put it.
Are you deducting, from my comment about the late Queen, that I am antisemitic? Where did I mention Israeli Jews?
Ironically, you copied that quote from 'The Times of Israel', and ex-Israeli President Reuven Rivlin made it.
Really? See above. If I had known it was him who said it, then I would have quoted him.
You forgot to mention that Prince Charles came to Israel in 1995 and 2016 to attend the funerals of Yitzhak Rabin (he was the fifth prime minister of Israel) and Shimon Peres (who served as the eighth prime minister of Israel).
I didn't forget to mention it. I was talking about about the Queen, not the royal family as a whole.
Prince Charles made an official visit to Israel in 2020 to attend the World Holocaust Forum, marking 75 years since the liberation of Auschwitz and the systematic mass murder of the Jewish people in German-occupied Europe.
Wrong. The first official visit was from Prince William, not Prince Charles, in 2018.

How respectful of our King to show sympathy and understanding to survivors of the Holocaust who felt there was no future for Jews in Europe after 6 million were murdered for no other reason than for being Jewish.
He isn't my king. I am a French citizen, not a British subject.
I have immense sympathy to all who were the victims of the Holocaust, including Jewish people, Roma and Sinti, Poles, Slavs and many more. Every single one matters and should be remembered. My great aunt was tortured and sent to Auschwitz. She was a member of the French resistance.
It is also commonly believed that the British Foreign Office, for fear of Arab boycotts, had advised the queen not to visit Israel.
Indeed. I suggest you read the link I posted above, which explains why she never visited.
There is always more than one side to a story; I intend everyone to hear it.
Good for you. Before you do that, make sure you get your facts right, first.

The modern phrase what is your takeaway from my comment might also be a translation of the poster’s intended meaning.

‘Deduct’ may have been unintentional, but it makes sense as it happens and is not actually wrong:

From Late Middle English deducen (“to demonstrate, prove, show; to argue, infer; to bring, lead; to turn (something) to a use; to deduct”), borrowed from Latin dēdūcere, the present active infinitive of dēdūcō (“to lead or bring out or away; to accompany, conduct, escort; (figuratively) to derive, discover, deduce”); ...

If you find what we're trying to explain here as sickening or some kind of blatant racism/antisemitism, please check your own prejudices.

@OchaLove I am not sure who that is aimed at as you haven't said? I am not sure that anyone used the word 'sickening'? Are you referring again to the students?

@Auvergne63 you would do well to remember that with your 'grammar is inportant' rubbish that you target at very specific posters. All noted. Patterns are inportant.
Freedom of speech works all ways so remembered that when you being challenged and don't like it.

@GentleScroller as you where x

Oh before I forget.... how many times are you going to accuse people of calling you antisemitic, roll out the same stories again? Once again targeted at specific posters. Just so I know when to switch off. And if this posts illicits a response from Mumsnet I can prove it. Over and over again.

Quite a threatening post on the whole, peppered with personal attacks.
Luckily, I don't scare easily.

Oh before I forget.... how many times are you going to accuse people of calling you antisemitic, roll out the same stories again?
Every time they do so. Which stories are you referring to?
Once again targeted at specific posters.
I will respond to posts I fundamentally disagree with as you are supposed to do in a debate. You do the same, don't you? As demonstrated here.
Just so I know when to switch off.
Switch off now.
And if this posts illicits a response from Mumsnet I can prove it. Over and over again.
Noted and discarded.

@Auvergne63 it is laughable that you would accuse me of being 'threatening' when you repeatedly goad and specifically target under the pretext of debate.

Belittling and correcting just inflates your self importance it doesn't add anything. How does that add? Honestly?

I am happy for an 'entente cordiale' though.... (worse thing is I checked I spelt that right before I posted that)

Maybe some good habits will come out of posting?

Do you realise radio is just another form of media?

Are you deducting, from my comment about the late Queen, that I am antisemitic?
What did you say to me the other day? ‘A grammar book would be a good investment, I feel’.
Are you gaslighting me?
Shall we remind everyone what you said; I think the late queen viewed the Israelis as "terrorists or sons of terrorists"
Because you are not brave enough to say what you really think, you took a quote made by someone else (not the Queen), used it out of context, and implied it was fact. Besmirching the good name of our late Queen.

Where did I mention Israeli Jews?
Sorry, are you confused? That’s my line.

Really? See above. If I had known it was him who said it, then I would have quoted him.
Quoting you, ‘make sure you get your facts right, first'.

I didn't forget to mention it. I was talking about the Queen, not the royal family as a whole.
You didn’t mention it because you either didn’t know the facts or wanted to disclose other members of the Royal family had visited Israel.

Wrong. The first official visit was from Prince William, not Prince Charles, in 2018.
Good to know the future Kind of England has already visited Israel. Very pleased to hear that.

He isn't my king. I am a French citizen, not a British subject.
Who cares!

I have immense sympathy to all who were the victims of the Holocaust, including Jewish people, Roma and Sinti, Poles, Slavs and many more. Every single one matters and should be remembered. My great aunt was tortured and sent to Auschwitz. She was a member of the French resistance.

Indeed. I suggest you read the link I posted above, which explains why she never visited.

Being anti the Israeli government's actions and being anti Jewish are 2 different things. Don't conflate them.
But do point out the anti Jewish posts.
Btw, I am sure that @SharonEllis can speak for herself, unless you are her designated spokesperson.

You hear it all the time from Israeli officials. According to them, the UN are anti-semitic, HRW are anti-semitic, Amnesty International are anti-semitic, the ICC are anti-semitic, the ICJ are anti-semitic and so on and so forth. In a nutshell most organisations or individuals outside of Israel who criticise Israel are called anti-semitic.

Need to add Gideon Levy to the list now of people or organisations labelled antisemitic for criticising Israel.

You realise it is possible to criticise Israel without being antisemitic? Its worth trying to understand this.
