I see the old thread is sadly almost full. I wonder how many of these I will start? 😢

Why? Just why?

Partly, probably because the people responsible know that there are people, like me, who have people we care about, who we don't know where they are or whether they've been 'detained'. Maybe our loved ones are lying unclaimed under rubble, maybe they're in unmarked or mass graves. Maybe they're 'detained' and wishing for death. And now, maybe their bodies are rotting in this truck. Or in other trucks waiting to be sent through.

This is psychological warfare and cruelty. It is not aimed at Hamas. It is aimed at all of us who are wondering where our loved ones are.

It is sick. The people doing it are sick.

Limesodaagain · 25/09/2024 23:49

It’s unbearable to read about.

StupidFarang · 26/09/2024 00:41

Limesodaagain · 25/09/2024 18:08

Two wrongs don’t make a right- agreed.
But it’s not ok to only call out wrongs on one side … I think the PP was just pointing out there are wrongs on both sides

Exactly. Dehumanisation happens on both sides and is far worse and accepted on one of them...

Correct. And look where it has left the people in Gaza.

Indeed. You couldn't carry out atrocities like 7/10 unless you saw the other side as less than human. When you listen to the Hamas discourse on that day from the many videos, you hear it very clearly.

Indeed. You couldn't carry out atrocities like 7/10 unless you saw the other side as less than human. When you listen to the Hamas discourse on that day from the many videos, you hear it very clearly.

People also couldn't carry out the kind of horrific acts being inflicted upon Palestinians in Gaza or the West Bank without seeing them as less than human too. Supporters of the Israeli government and IDF have explicitly stated that they view Palestinians as sub-human. Some extend this out to Arab people in general, or even to Muslims in general. People have even encountered this view freely expressed by supporters in the UK. That is how normalised and accepted this viewpoint is considered to be in some groups.

The publication of cartoons, social media posts, etc using dehumanising language and imagery contributes to spreading and reinforcing the acceptability and normality of dehumanising people. The imagery may depict one specific example of a disliked or hated person, but the message conveyed by such imagery is clear, and intended to be generalised - just as a cartoon depicting a prominent and unpopular black person/gay person/Jewish person/etc as an animal like that would be condemned for its prejudice and contribution to dehumanising a group, we should also be able and willing to say that it is wrong to use such tactics against Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims.

Things like "cockroach", "rat", etc are dehumanising insults people have a long history of using against Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims. Their use in media supporting the IDF's actions is intentional and very telling.

Scirocco · 26/09/2024 07:57

Re-sharing because this shouldn't get lost. This is the sort of thing that people become ok with when they see a group as less than human.

Piling dead people in a truck and trying to dump their decomposing, desecrated bodies with no more consideration than would be given to taking rubbish to the dump. Leaving the many, many people in Palestine and around the world who have missing loved ones wondering: is someone we love on that truck, or will they be on the next one?

So you come on the thread to remind us that Hamas dehumanise too. At no point has anyone denied or condoned that. You have absolutely zero comment on the distressing article about bodies decomposing in a truck just jumped over it to have a dig. Delightful

is far worse and accepted on one of them
Unless you are referring to the Israeli government and IDF this statement is not accurate

StupidFarang · 26/09/2024 00:41

It does. The dehumanisation of the Palestinians is clear to see in Gaza and the West bank. To deny this is to deny reality.
To send a truck full of the decomposed bodies of human beings is something beyond my understanding and something used in medieval warfare.
The Israeli government has sunk to new lows. I fear that we only know the tip of the iceberg of their actions in Gaza. After all, no international press is allowed in Gaza. According to Jeremy Bowen ( a respected war correspondent), this is unprecedented.
The Israeli government does not want the press to bear witness to their operations. Why?

I really cannot imagine how you and so many others are feeling right now.
I once again have no words in the face of such cruelty.

anotherlevel · 26/09/2024 10:28

@Scirocco It's absolutely awful that they have the audacity to do this. The whole world can see how a group of people is being dehumanised. They're people like you, me and every poster and people in the world. Their lives matter just as much as everyone else's does.

Sinwar is funding you,” one reportedly says.
“You are cancer in the country,” another is said to shout.

sentences a father of a hostage has been told whilst protesting for a deal that brings their relative back home.

Awful, disgusting.

That poor man merely wants his loved one home, he deserves support.

TRT World’s award-winning documentary “Holy Redemption: Stealing Palestinian Land” exposes how the sick mentality of illegal Zionist settlers is used against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank

This is shocking and disturbing.

I had no idea of this scale of this.

Contains contributions from Israeli human rights groups, former PM Ehud Olmert, pro-settlement Knesset member, and the settlers themselves.

not just protected by Israel but largely ignored by the west

Israel have got away with atrocities for years and now the world is waking up governments need to and will catch up with their publics opinion in time

we have moved on from west against the middle east that time has passed it opinions have changed

So no proscribed terrorist groups then.

I totally condemn the actions of people breaking the law but it's not up to you to decide who are terrorists or not.

Just labelling random individuals isn't how it works.

AhNowTed · 26/09/2024 13:31

Breaking the law? Are you for real.

YoYoYoYo12345 · 26/09/2024 13:31

@YoYoYoYo12345

I don't have twitter etc and don't watch random twitter links. I realise that many break the law and are wrong. However they aren't legally labelled terrorists. No more than any people who break the law anywhere are.

YoYoYoYo12345 · 26/09/2024 13:33

AhNowTed · 26/09/2024 13:31

Stealing? Yes it's breaking the law. I haven't watched the twitter. A poster just merely labelled a large bunch of different individuals terrorists. There is no proscribed terrorist group to which they belong.
