I see the old thread is sadly almost full. I wonder how many of these I will start? 😢

New footage from Associated Press of IDF kicking, pushing shot Palestinians off roof tops in Qabatiya, the West Bank. Not known if all were dead or alive & unconscious. IDF has said they will investigate. Even if they were all dead, under international law, soldiers are supposed to ensure dead bodies, including those of enemy combatants, are treated decently.

Glad this has been picked up by media. I saw it yesterday but I didn’t want to link it as it was in twitter and I knew the source was going to be questioned.

Yes me too. It’s good to wait a bit for the media to do preliminary verification.

That is barbaric! Pushing bodies of Palestinians you have killed off the top of buildings!
What the hell is wrong with them

Mellowdramadrama · 20/09/2024 11:02

The only explanation I can think of is the IDF see the Palestinians as sub-human. Otherwise why would someone even kick a dead dog so callously off the top of a high building, let alone a human!

anotherlevel · 20/09/2024 11:02

@EasterIssland Same here - also when you share instagram links it sometimes gives away your identity when someone opens the link.

Many, many things. When radicalised people get given weapons and approval from their bosses and elements of society to do what they want, to a population that they don't see as human, horrible things become the 'done thing'. People are actively filming themselves and their mates doing increasingly vile things, putting it on social media and getting likes and validation for it.

People have stopped seeing Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims as human. Suffering inflicted upon people in these groups or people who try to stand up for these groups is now something it's considered ok to joke about and celebrate. It's disgusting.

Yes, I agree people have stopped seeing Arabs, Palestinians and Muslims as human. This includes the minority of Arabs and Palestinians that are Christian or Zoroastrian as well.

There was a really good opinion piece in Haaretz that stated
”Just like the glorious assassinations which never contributed anything, so are the pager heroics, nothing but a cinematic gimmick. Other than the drool shed in TV studios by people who salivate over every dead or wounded Arab, Israel's situation on the day after is worse than it was on the day before this heroic operation, even if people gave out sweets in Israel.”

and
”War in the north moved closer the other day, at an alarming speed. It will bethe most preventable war in the country's history. It could be its biggest bloodbath as well. When Hezbollah explicitly states that it will stop shooting as soon as a cease-fire deal is signed with Hamas, and Israel is unwilling to stop the war in Gaza under any circumstances, it is inviting Hezbollah to attack it. That's what a war of choice looks like.”

Opinion | 'Hollywood' pager attack sent a clear message: Israel wants another redundant war — Haaretz

We now also have it in writing, in a thousand exploding copies: Israel wants a war, a big one.

Dehumanising people is part of genocide. Just like the Rwanda genocide when the Tutsis were referred to as "cockroaches".

Indeed. Dehumanising language helps create a mindset in which abhorrent acts can be carried out. Afterwards, people say how it should never again be allowed, but how quickly people forget...

At least one Israeli cartoonist has portrayed Palestinians as cockroaches with no consequences.

It’s clear dehumanisation has been going on for a long time and it’s not just a few top Israeli officials, it’s trickled down into the cartoons and even the #1 song in the country.

The “Harbu Darbu”, a pro-war song, in Israel late last year. The lyrics compared Palestinians & celebrity supporters to dogs and rats and utilised the same genocidal Amalek comparison invoked by Netanyahu. Videos of dancing and singing to the song became a viral trend among Israelis.

(The YouTube video is a news report on the song)

Scirocco · 20/09/2024 15:18

Having seen people make cartoons, social media jokes, even recipes to express their joy at the deaths of my friends and colleagues and others has made this already hellish situation far harder. That social media sites and forums allow such celebrations to be shared unchecked is disgusting.

It is so depressing to think this would get written, recorded, released, played and purchased with no one at any point thinking hold on this isn't ok.

I feel revulsion and loathing at not just that humans can be so full of hate and callousness but because their excrable and odious spoutings have gone completely unchecked and feebly contested.

My only hope is that at least by being so brazenly genocidal, it is adding to a mound of incontestable evidence that will bring about a reckoning. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

That cockroach quite clearly has the face of Yahya Sinwar wearing a green Hamas headband. I don't agree with the use of this imagery in any context but it's misleading to say the cartoon was dehumanising Palestinian people as a whole when it's so obviously referring to the IDF defeating Sinwar/Hamas, albeit presented in a tasteless and offensive manner.

Apologies as the link is in Spanish but can’t see it in the English version of the UN website
the news is longer but I’ve translated parts of it

Israel denies about 50% of humanitarian operations

The Israeli military has imposed increasingly unpredictable and restrictive time windows for humanitarian movements through the two checkpoints between the south and north of the Strip.

As an example, he cited that on August 24, a protective barrier at the checkpoint, supposedly broken, caused a mission to be blocked for four hours. The repair of the barrier resulted in the non-delivery of 10,000 vaccines, 58 loads of medicines, including cold chain items and vital medical supplies for pregnant women, as well as 24,000 liters of fuel.

The UN agency also exposed the sad cases of two crucial operations to save the lives of families with children trapped under the rubble. The first mission, in the town of Hamad, was hindered by Israeli forces for three consecutive days, despite initial indications that there were survivors, including children. The second mission, in Rafah, was similarly hampered. “When rescue teams were finally allowed to reach the scene, no survivors were found,” the Office noted. Likewise, a subsequent operation in Rafah aimed at recovering the remains of 30 people to give them a dignified burial was denied, he added.

The violence faced by humanitarian workers at checkpoints is another of the serious concerns of the UN Office, which recalled the multiple incidents of shooting at humanitarian convoys when they approached checkpoints, despite that the vehicles were clearly marked and had received prior confirmation from Israeli forces.

I cannot watch the news anymore as the reporting from Gaza upsets me so much. It is incomprehensible to me.

Silence1 · 21/09/2024 14:30

That song is sickening. Warmongering. I wish those singers could live and experience Gaza right now. The comments I read on Israeli press websites by some Israelis are so bloody depressing and horrifying.
I haven't had a chance to catch up with everything on the thread and I can't believe the things I read. I have no belief in the US anymore. I think Blinken just says what he thinks the World wants to hear. Very empty platitudes

So sorry if this has been posted before. It's from the Norwegian Refugee Council and 14 other aid organizations Israel’s siege now blocks 83% of food aid reaching Gaza, new data reveals | NRC

It is unbearable to think of those children left to die like that ( as so many have been). It is the nightmare of nightmares.

ScrollingLeaves · 22/09/2024 00:06

te The Harbu Darbu hit song

The singers sing ….“Nasrallah”
“Every dog’s day will come” …. And repeat it with different names of people Israel has assassinated.

Our very old English expression, “Every dog has his day” means something very different from what these complacent “dog” - killing- rejoicers apparently think.

Their incantation could mean that the people they want to kill will not always be the underdog.

AhNowTed · 22/09/2024 07:31

I can barely believe this one.

Boat tours off the coast of Gaza to watch it being bombed.

Young Israeli children and families on the boat, including Limor Son Har-Melech, a member of the Knesset.

Kids taking photos...
