Wise. Boycott the Maldives and they’ll soon be begging for mercy. Unlike Israel, which is an economic powerhouse, they’re just a tourist playground.
And what a fine record on human rights:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_in_the_Maldives

"Human rights in the Maldives, an archipelagic nation of 417,000 people off the coast of the Indian Subcontinent,[1] is a contentious issue. In its 2011 Freedom in the World report, Freedom House declared the Maldives "Partly Free", claiming a reform process which had made headway in 2009 and 2010 had stalled.[2] The United States Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor claims in their 2012 report on human rights practices in the country that the most significant problems are corruption, lack of religious freedom, and abuse and unequal treatment of women.[3]
The Maldives has a longstanding practice of employing criminal defamation laws as a means to suppress dissent."

" Moreover, the government has imposed stringent limitations on assemblies, resulting in the prohibition or severe restriction of peaceful rallies and protests. These actions have raised concerns about the state of freedom of expression and civil liberties in the country.[4]"

I I am sure that people who who have celebrated this announcement are also very supportive of free speech, freedom of expression and protests.

The Israelis won't miss this place and intelligent people will recognise the irony in this decision.

They might have some sketchy ideas... but they got this one right, at least.

Well done Maldives! For such a small country to make such a big stand against an 'economic powerhouse' is a very brave move. I have no doubt other countries will follow.

@LastTrainEast

"Good News! the deaths in Palestinian are voluntary. "

Do you hear yourself? Do you know how offensive you’re being? There are posters on here who have friends and family in Palestine who are suffering and who have tragically lost their lives. Innocent people.

By the way, you’ve used the wrong word in your sentence. It’s Palestine not Palestinian.

"After all if Hamas handed over the hostages there'd be no justification for carrying on."

Don’t be so naive. This has been discussed on here multiple times. It’s getting boring now.

"Or the ordinary Palestinians could hand over Hamas."

And exactly how do you expect them to do this when they’re being annihilated as we speak? They barely have energy to survive let a lone do anything else.

"Apparently everyone in Palestinian is happy with the situation as it is. "

Do they look happy? Children being targeted in their apartment. Both lost their lives.

I really shouldn’t have to post this to point out the obvious. But sometimes people find it hard to comprehend words so images and videos tend to speak louder.

Graphic content. (I suggest you open it and see what you are supporting)

https://www.instagram.com/reel/C7wBrX9N4lw/?igsh=MXIxczBjbHhtanYw

And again the correct word you’re looking for is Palestine.

"Meanwhile I support the Israelis continuing to try and find and rescue their people. If I were being held I'd expect nothing less from my government."

Are they really though? They didn’t seem to care when they killed 3 hostages holding a white flag. Did you support them then? Or did you condemn their actions?

The difference is there are plenty of beautiful countries to visit that don't judge people on the passport they hold.

After saving for a much-wanted holiday I will be choosing one of those and none of those others that are showing so shockingly their antisemitism.

Yup try Mauritius, and The Seychelles.

Also - India has many beautiful regions such as Kerala.

Pus India and their people have assessed the situation and have supported a country's right to attempt to eradicate a neighbouring terrorist administration.

Bravo India!

Mellowdramadrama · 03/06/2024 12:49

@keenforhelp israel's allies have warned them for months that their actions are increasingly isolating them from the rest of the world.
Did the government take heed? No, they did not.
So I'm not in the least surprised to see this

Its human rights record are deplorable but that is not the reason I suggested boycotting them.

I am supporting a boycott based upon its actions on banning a Western democratic state - that is an ally of many countries - from its shores due to its racist and anti-Semitic stance.

Why aren't you?

I'm boycotting the Maldives because I can't afford them 😆 but that's irrelevant here.

I'm glad to see that you are a supporter of boycott, and recognise its power.

I have no doubt that no other countries will follow. Don't get your hopes up.

Perhaps only some other tiny, racist, anti-Semitic Island nations?

I love India Keen!

Haven't been since 2012, would love to go back...

It is absolutely amazing. I lived there for a number of years and the people are so warm, so friendly, so accepting and so multicultural. So spiritual!

The Maldives are a tiny island nation which will soon cease to exist due to global arming and flooding, sadly.

If you think Israel are becoming isolated due to social media propaganda, then you will be very disappointed when people move on to the shiniest new toy to protest about.

@HelenHen may I ask whether you have a smartphone?

You owe the technological side of your life to Israel. Why not boycott Israeli technology and see how much you enjoy your life then.

Oh god, I'm the least tech person you could meet 😂 but sure, whatever! Every country has something valuable to offer. Boycott isn't always easy, but I'm glad you agree it's worth it.

clampdown · 03/06/2024 13:03

It is appalling - though not entirely surprising given past actions - and I hope it backfires on them.

If you think Israel aren't being isolated due to the brutal nature of their armed forces and disproportionate attack on civilians which amount to collective punishment, then you are burying your head in the sand.

Valeriesimpleton · 03/06/2024 13:06

Qatar bans them. Good luck stopping them coming into the UK asking for handouts. I don't think there would be a UK without Qatari investment 🤣

DownNative · 03/06/2024 13:07

I suggest the Government of the Maldives focus on more urgent, pressing matters closer to home.

It's a tiny island State with no real influence in the modern world.

The Maldives bans Israeli passport holders

But the only reason you can post on MN is due to Israeli technology!

@keenforhelp here is an allied country, banning Israel from participating in their annual arms fair this year.. are they also anti-semitic?

And yet here we are... discussing it!

It's also pretty low to bring up something like the possibility of them ceasing to exist as a way to prove your point. That's just crass and shameful tbh

AhNowTed · 03/06/2024 13:13

The point I was making whooshed right over your head.

Anyway like I said I am not in favour of sweeping boycotts. I preferred targeted sanctions but on a human level as someone who has felt utterly helpless watching innocent children being starved and bombed incessantly I understand the Maldives urge to do something and a general ban is probably much easier for a small nation to impose.

Ok so Israel invented the Internet and all ways of accessing the Internet? That's pretty impressive! Way to go!
