Im sure no one was taking down details on Oct 7th about who was Israeli, who was visiting on holiday, who was from any other nation, who was a peace-loving Kibbutz family, who were babies or infants, who was a young woman at a rave, an elderly disabled grandparent

I'm sure no shits were given.

Amazing how that suited the narrative.

Mmm rather like my Christian Palestinian relatives who live in Gaza and are being bombed/killed

Like you say, no shits are being given

HelenHen · 03/06/2024 14:01

No you personally. Why do you think Trump will be better? I'm not clicking on links, sorry!

Vermin · 03/06/2024 14:01

I sure hope they’ve banned their own citizens from entering in protest at the stoning to death of rape victims

Suited what narrative? The only narrative I can think of there is that Hamas weren't attacking Israel because of a hatred of Jews, they were doing it because of the occupation? Is that the narrative you are talking about?

I'm not sure why an awful terrorist attack is being compared to one country sanctioning another in the first place. Do you think what the Maldives are doing is in any way comparable?

NecessaryNC24 · 03/06/2024 14:05

I was replying to @PearlKoala

But I'm very sorry to hear what's happened to your family X

Unfortunately that does not change what I was describing on Oct 7th which was a result of HAMAS' barbaric actions.

It's ALL awful.

NecessaryNC24 · 03/06/2024 14:06

I agree Hamas actions on the 7th October were awful, in fact I can't see where I implied they weren't? That was not my intention. I firmly agree it is all awful.

HelenHen · 03/06/2024 13:36

But of course you do! I didn't expect you to see anything wrong with your post at all.

It's still a shameful thing to say.

Alicia Silverstone Reaction GIF

Except its not at all shameful to suggest the Government of the Maldives has more urgent, pressing issues to deal with.

That's sea level rises AND the decline of their freshwater sources.

It's a question of having their own priorities in the right order.

Have a nice day......

Yes it is all fucking awful.

The 506 Palestinians shot by the IDF in the West Bank in 2023 prior to Oct 7th, including 120 children.

The settler violence and bulldozing of Palestinian homes.

It's all horrific.

@DownNative What you wrote is sadly very true.

What else is sad is how personal comments seem to be levelled at those who disagree with their narrative in an attempts to belittle.

Not a persuasive way to make your points.

Indeed!

The response to a statement of fact such as the Maldives having more urgent matters they should focus on is to employ the Appeal To Emotions Fallacy and playing the person instead of the ball.

It's to be expected.

The point has been made about the priorities of the Government of the Maldives, so I move on from that matter. 👍

Not sure why the sarcastic gifs?

Anyway, one could suggest that the government of Israel have more pressing issues than a trip to the Maldives 🤷‍♀️

And thus endeth the discussion then so! 😆

"The Appeal to Emotions Fallacy"?

What is this?

Are emotions forbidden when it comes to Genocide?

ConnieCounter · 03/06/2024 14:50

Absolute lol at the posters here posting about the Maldives human rights record. Now that's some brass neck.

Meaning you appealed to negative emotions, i.e., "shameful", in response to a statement of fact in regards to the Government of the Maldives.

It doesn't mean "Here, you! Put your emotions away!". In short, I'm well aware of your attempts at manipulation and simply not buying what you're trying to sell.

And the phrase you're looking for is "alleged genocide". It's far from proven. You're free to believe it, of course, but other people don't have to agree with you. 🤷‍♂️

Have a good day.....

Yeah.

I guess it just shows just how dehumanized Palestinians / arabs / muslims really are by the ’pro israelis’:
israel can’t be breaking any human rights because Palestinians aren’t even human.

Horrible.
And the double standards are absolutely crazy.
Are they really that blind?

The Maldivian human rights' record is poor as is the human rights record in Palestine.

According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_in_the_State_of_Palestine

eg

"Nevertheless, the right to demonstrate for opponents of the PA regime or of PA policy has become increasingly subject to police control and restriction and is a source of concern for human rights groups.[6]
Activists say there is a growing crackdown on writers who criticize the Palestinian Government.[7] According to executive director of Advancing Human Rights David Keyes, in 2013, Anas Awwad, a 26-year-old Palestinian activist, was sentenced in absentia by a Palestinian court in Nablus, the West Bank, to one year in prison for "extending his tongue" against the Palestinian Authority's president, Mahmoud Abbas, on Facebook.[8][clarification needed] Keyes also states that in 2012, Palestinian blogger Jamal Abu Rihan was arrested by the Palestinian Authority for starting a Facebook campaign called the People Want an End to Corruption. He was indicted under the charges of "extending his tongue" against the Palestinian leadership.[8]"

and

"In August 2016, Human Rights Watch published a report about Palestine discussing the freedom of expression in the Palestinian territories. The international organization documented the case of Majd Khawaja, 22, who was arrested by security forces at intelligence headquarter. Khawaja was accused of painting the word (intifada) uprising on a wall, having weapons and planning to smuggle people into Jordan. He was subjected to physical torture during interrogation. He published some songs about the corruption of the PA which considered as a criminal offense; The songs were removed from YouTube.[14]"

Brass neck?

More like telling it how it is.

And Israel has treated Palestinians like dogs for decades and is currently committing a genocide in Gaza. So that's relevant.

@ConnieCounterI agree with your simile there. I know many dog owners that treat their dogs better than humans - in fact - they live in luxury.

Stating that Israel are committing a genocide, as it is the IDF carrying out operations, is anti-Semitic as it conflates all Israelis -the Jewish state inhabitants - with IDF operations.

Tully1557 · 03/06/2024 16:18

@TomeTome best response. Bit of a red flag when a country is needing Trump to improve their public image. I really don’t think Israel is doing very well with perception. I haven’t spoken to anyone who supports what Israel is doing or can even rationalise it. It’s only delights like Rishi Sunak, Biden and people on mumsnet. Most people can call it what it is. Anyway, history will tell. We can revisit this thread in 20 years when all murderers have distanced themselves from their actions, and when the ‘lessons have been learnt’ line has been trotted out.

If countries like Maldives, Spain, Norway and Ireland want to do whatever small things they can do to show they were on the right side of history - good on them!

I didn't say Israel need them - I just suggested what was going to happen.

Everyone I speak at the gym supports Israel - Muslims, Hindus, Christians, like everybody. Obviously if you go by the social media bots then you won't get the right idea.

Recognising Palestine as a state doesn't mean not supporting Israel - it is done for political reasons but I can tell you now - those countries love Jewish people and Israelis having travelled in them extensively.

Nautiluss · 03/06/2024 16:37

Fab238 · 02/06/2024 23:42

All of the countries listed above are victims of English imperialism and as such no amount of "handouts" given to their citizen could ever make up for the looting, plundering, killing of their citizens by England. Get off your moral high ground - the world no longer revolves around what you or your lot think.

English imperialism certainly has a lot to answer for. As does French, Spanish, Dutch and Portuguese. Maybe some countries could do themselves a favour by banning the citizens of those countries as well, if we're going all out for redressing the balance.

You are being extremely unfair to those who've suffered under Israeli occupation and blockade by suggesting these atrocities didn't/don't happen. You can ignore human rights abuses if you want. But it doesn't mean they're not happening.

I agree. Ireland has quite unfairly been painted as antisemitic by the Israeli government when Ireland have been quite forgiving of their past transgressions considering their use of fake Irish passports putting Irish security at risk, their smear tactics and their use of threats. Irelands issue has always been with Israels behaviour. Not Jewish people. Not 'Israelis' in general although certainly some Israelis but that has come down to their behaviour. I'm glad to see some acknowledgement of that on this board.
