I never said that you agree with the collective punishment of Palestinians and like I said earlier on in the thread I personally would only agree with targeted travel bans on Israelis, that's a pretty normal sanction and it's shameful that it hasn't been done by all Western countries

I suppose seeing the stark reality, that Israelis are getting 'inflamed' over travel bans to luxury holiday destinations whilst their government starves children, it just feels so fucked up. It really illustrates the power imbalance and the fact that even though both are at war Gaza and Israel are existing in two very different worlds.

I I am sure that people who who have celebrated this announcement are also very supportive of free speech, freedom of expression and protests.

The Israelis won't miss this place and intelligent people will recognise the irony in this decision.

And I will peacefully abstain from ever visiting there now (it was on my list) because a people that will generalise all Israelis in that way makes me wonder what they'd think of me.

From your arguments about why you think people should boycott the Maldives it sounds like you should be pretty supportive of why the Maldives wants to boycott Israel. You are one of the posters that is supporting boycotting a whole country based off its government's actions, that's just what the Maldives are doing.

The difference is there are plenty of beautiful countries to visit that don't judge people on the passport they hold.

After saving for a much-wanted holiday I will be choosing one of those and none of those others that are showing so shockingly their antisemitism.

Wouldn't it only be antisemitic to conflate Israelis and the IDF if the actions of the IDF were reprehensible?

And the Maldives see Israel as a country that are starving children and bombing refugee camps and thinks there are plenty of other people they would rather welcome. It's the same thing, they are judging Israel based on its government's actions and you are judging the Maldives based on their governments actions.

Edited to add boycott if you like but getting on your high horse about the Maldives doing it what you are supporting doing just seems off. Either you support boycotting an entire country based off their governments actions or you don't.

Its human rights record are deplorable but that is not the reason I suggested boycotting them.

I am supporting a boycott based upon its actions on banning a Western democratic state - that is an ally of many countries - from its shores due to its racist and anti-Semitic stance.
