I think when one of the speakers at the event is twaddling on about Zionist death cults to a large crowd, it stops being arguably an unwelcome minority and starts being obviously part of the march.

Exactly this

Is there any more info on Mr Al turd that spoke last week and had the misfortune to misspeak on stage?

@PeasfullPerson I wonder why people feel they can't challenge such virulent antisemitism and just go along for the ride? Caught up in the moment? Grudging appreciation? Shows how people can get caught up in something that then becomes the 'norm' doesn't it?

But imagine being on the receiving end of that?

Do you mean Mohammed El-Kurd?

He was released without charge. Probably helped he had a lawyer with him when interviewed by the police.

I haven’t listened to his speech- but what is it that he said that is so wrong for you to call him “Mr Al turd”?

noblegiraffe · 21/01/2024 16:50

He twaddled on about Zionist death cults and having to root them out of British institutions. Proper mad and potentially dangerous stuff.

Humdingerydoo · 21/01/2024 16:55

Is he the “We must normalise massacres as the status quo” guy? Poor guy, to mis-speak in such an unfortunate manner! Weirdly, his accidental call for more massacres were still cheered on by the crowds rather than booed.

noblegiraffe · 21/01/2024 17:00

But you agree it is not reasonable to twaddle on about Zionist death cults?

Xenia · 21/01/2024 17:03

I read that but I don't agree with him they have no voice. They have voices and can write because the West gives that freedome, even though many of the other countries in the Middle East are the opposite of what he wants - try free speech in Saudi or Iran and then come back and say the West does not allow men like El-Kurd (or even better given plenty of women are made to shut up in the Middle East) female equivalents of him to speak.

Surely calling for massacres would be a crime? He wasn’t charged with a crime.

So- I went and looked up his speech- he said we must not normalise massacres!

noblegiraffe · 21/01/2024 17:08

His prepared speech said that, but when actually speaking he said we must normalise the massacre.

What do you think about Zionist death cults though?

As I said, he mis-spoke. He still got a massive cheer though, which is beyond absurd.

stomachameleon · 21/01/2024 17:16

@Polka83 sorry I misspoke.

Pretty big thing for him to get wrong and then not correct wasn't it. Call an MP an abusive name and rant about death cults

What's the Mumsnet phrase... oh we see you..

I agree that saying Z is a death cult (even context of the Palestinian deaths we all are aware of) is provocative at best and offensive at worst. I can certainly understand why some think he’s inciting hatred but I imagine his anger and sorrow run particularly deep at present. He must have a good lawyer!

@Xenia
I imagine being heard is a subjective matter. He’s saying Palestinian woes were not being adequately heard from his perspective?

stomachameleon · 21/01/2024 17:50

Is it appropriate at a 'peace' March?
Should it be allowed?

Having not heard the speech - so did not the context nor understand about him mis-speaking. Agree it was a big thing for him to get wrong.

stomachameleon · 21/01/2024 18:09

@Polka83 let's be honest if he wanted to say something along those lines and had been advised not too.... that was a good get out clause.... well I misspoke.

There is not much the police can say about that I suppose.

His reaction afterwards said it all to be me. You would be mortified given the Context and the publicity it got. Which was not the case.

Yes, he told Robert Jenrick to suck his dick and goaded the Met Police to come and get him.

Polka83 · 21/01/2024 18:28

I can see why he may not see eye to eye on things with Robert Jenkins - although don’t know this particular exchange - and his language is colourful and again provocative to say the least. Not at all surprised he was arrested if he goaded the police on top of this all.

Tripper79 · 21/01/2024 20:54

These are sorts of marches that should be happening more. No placards. No chanting or intimidation. Just people of all faiths from both sides of the conflict standing together in solidarity. I don’t live near London but I would have joined a march like this.

Xenia · 24/01/2024 13:18

I don't mind peaceful protests but we need to ensure we don't have any kind of mob rule in the UK and just because there are large numbers of people doing something eg protesting outside a school that we do not give in to those with loudest voices or those who are most violent in their protests.

Personally I'd hope they would be welcomed in to pray with them. But then I'm not religious at all so can't speak to the feelings religion engendered.

Silly boy trying to be controversial. My respect goes to people whose faith informs them to do good things in the world not create conflicts.
