@Livinginanotherworld I haven’t called you any names and there’s no need to swear at me, how rude.

@Walkaround

Just to clarify on "Free Palestine" exactly which areas exactly or which part of Palestine do you think should be "free"?

@1dayatatime The bit that becomes the state of Palestine when a two state solution is implemented should certainly qualify for that! As for Palestinians as opposed to “Palestine” - they should feel free from discrimination and military control wherever they live, whether they are Israeli citizens or whether they live in a newly created state of Palestine, as should any citizen of Palestine, whatever their religion or ethnic origins. Where such harmony is not fully achievable, this is simply not an excuse to deny Palestinians any homeland whatsoever. And it is not true that Hamas has never accepted the idea of a two state solution. Besides which, Israel is far more likely to win both a propaganda and military war against an aggressive but free Palestine than an abused group of people living in no-man’s land.

Walkaround · 22/12/2023 13:36

It’s not as if Israel hasn’t fought off neighbouring countries before. Better to fend off a neighbouring country than to be seen to bully and bomb people who are already suffering enough.

The irony of posters complaining about antisemitism being so very comfortable spewing Islamophobia.

unsurprising given the RLJ article the OP cited.

Some irony to this post

Scirocco · 22/12/2023 14:41

The Islamophobia in this thread is shameful.

Thereissomelight · 22/12/2023 14:47

Mmm, sounds like an excuse for killing lots of Gazans.

Att1cusPund · 22/12/2023 15:07

I've seen some overt islamophobia from one poster on this thread but I have to say that that poster is not one I've seen defending Jewish people and calling out antisemitism either on here or on other threads. So it would be good if people could not assume that that one person expressing hateful views can be lumped in with the Jewish people calling out antisemitism on here.

I linked the article as I thought the ideas were interesting and I have not said which ones I agree with.

Kindly do not accuse me of islamophobia because I linked an article!

Was that another public reference to me desertrose? Looks like you've accused me of Islamophobia TWCE merely for posting a link and saying it had interesting ideas.

ok, presumably you wouldn’t post a link to an anti-semitic piece saying it had interesting ideas

Would you have posted the link if the article had been promoting antisemitic ideas?

Which ideas are interesting to you? Would they be interesting if they were expressing the same sentiments about a different group of people?

floodlightonwhatisright · 23/12/2023 14:30

Don't question me so rudely when all I've done is link to an article. Horrific hostility.

If that's in response to me, I'm not intending to be rude or hostile, and I think I've asked reasonable questions.

You've posted a link to an article that expresses prejudiced opinions regarding a faith group, stating that you think it contains some interesting ideas, but you haven't said what ideas in it you've found interesting or in what way they interest you.

If I were sharing something I found interesting, I'd probably have explained in the original post what I found interesting and why.

As has been pointed out already, the article contains prejudice against a group of people. Given that you shared it, it seems reasonable to ask your thoughts on that element of the article, and whether you would have considered it acceptable to share and describe as interesting if it had been expressing those views on other groups.

It's in a national newspaper in this country. It is reasonable for someone to post an article and say it's interesting. It is interesting and thank you @floodlightonwhatisright for sharing it.
If anyone has an issue with something in a paper they can complain to the paper but are we really bullying people off their own thread? Don't like the sentiment of it then don't respond
I take it as Mumsnet has deleted accusatory comments they don't agree with you?

stomachameleon · 23/12/2023 17:19

I don't see how this article is any different to the relentless guardian articles that are posted and we are asked to debate?

You couldn't make it up.

Many were called anti semitic and Hamas sympathisers on other threads for posting links to newspapers too.

you knew and we all knew the meaning behind that "interesting" article.
if a handful out of hundreds of thousands showed up with horrible anti semitic slogans , it’s terrible and unfair to label the whole protest as violent and hate inciting , as the article stated "idiots enjoying a jolly day out".
