Israel is at war with Gaza. However , this has dragged other countries in the area as well.
weve heard about the problems in West Bank (there is a thread) but also Lebanon where civilians have been killed and journalists have been targeted and killed

they’ve also attacked several airports in Siria.

ive read in the past there was a conflict as well with Yemen and read now this” Yemen's Houthis warn they will target all ships headed to Israel”

it doesn’t sound that post this war living in Israel is going to be safer than before

Yemen's Houthis warn they will target all ships headed to Israel

Yemen's Houthi movement said on Saturday they would target all ships heading to Israel, regardless of their nationality, and warned all international shipping companies against dealing with Israeli ports.

@stomachamaleon maybe all the demonstrators shouting "Ceasefire NOW" could aim it towards Hamas at their next demo then? Doubtful though.

TwilightSkies · 25/12/2023 18:29

People still blaming Hamas for all this! Crazy.
It’s Israel dropping bombs on refugee camps, on hospitals, on schools. They’ve done nothing but harm and oppress Palestinians from DECADES. Steal their land and now slaughter them all. But yeah….Hamas?!

stomachamaleon · 25/12/2023 19:12

@TwilightSkies why is that?
Who is firing rockets into Israel?
Who went into kibbutz and murdered peace activists, children and the elderly? (Actually that's a trick question as it wasn't just hamas)
Who is Refusing to surrender and hand over power to a government set up Arab countries helping?
I will give you a clue if you like....

Yes Hamas. People are blaming them because they brutally killed raped and kidnapped hundreds of people.

It just pours scorn on what exactly they committed the massacre and took hostages for. What do they want exactly?

Israel have made it clear they need to go. Most Arab counties will work to install and support a government and the civilians will get a ceasefire.

I know they don't want to give up their corrupt money source but then what is it all about? Not the people of Gaza and peace that's for sure.

Does Israel really want to give Hamas what they want and what might go some way to resolve historic grievances?

Here’s the olive branch Hamas offered in 2017 with their updated charter. It’s about land and the Likud party has a more extreme stance with regard to land and a 2 state solution compared to what Hamas suggested:

Just out on Sky News:

"Hamas and the allied Islamic Jihad have rejected an Egyptian proposal that they relinquish power in the Gaza Strip in return for a permanent ceasefire, two Egyptian security sources have told Reuters.

Egypt proposed a "vision", also backed by Qatari mediators, that would involve a ceasefire in exchange for the release of more hostages, and lead to a broader agreement involving a permanent ceasefire along with an overhaul of leadership in Gaza, which is currently led by Hamas.

Egypt proposed elections while offering assurances to Hamas that its members would not be chased or prosecuted, but they rejected any concessions other than hostage releases"

Hamas could stop this all now by just agreeing to new elections (which they have prevented since 2006) and releasing the hostages.

So yes that is why people (including Egypt and Qatar) are blaming Hamas and PIJ.

stomachamaleon · 25/12/2023 20:29

@Polka83 well the post above you has just confirmed what they have declined now.
A ceasefire.
Not sure what they would find unreasonable?

Yes it’s Hamas. We know that.
So why is Israel murdering thousands of innocent CHILDREN in response?

stomachamaleon · 25/12/2023 20:38

Because Israel wants to kill Hamas and Hamas are hiding amongst thousands of innocent civilians including children?

Are you talking about the link @Silence1 posted?

It doesn’t actually say Hamas doesn’t want a ceasefire but it does say that Netanyahu doesn’t want one!

« We are receiving more comments from Benjamin Netanyahu, who has been giving a speech in Israel's parliament.
The country's leader has said that Israel will not succeed in freeing the remaining hostages held in Gaza without military pressure.
He said: "We wouldn't have succeeded up until now to release more than 100 hostages without military pressure.
"And we won't succeed at releasing all the hostages without military pressure."
Mr Netanyahu said earlier that Israel would "continue to fight" and is "expanding the fight in the coming days". »

Polka83 · 25/12/2023 22:36

@stomachamaleon

The link says Hamas wants permanent ceasefire.

The group said: "We reiterate that there can be no negotiations without a comprehensive cessation of aggression.
"Hamas leadership seeks a permanent cessation to the aggression and massacres against our people.
"Our people want to see this aggression completely halted, and do not want to wait for a temporary or partial truce for a short period, after which the aggression and terrorism might fatally continue."

SomeCatFromJapan · 25/12/2023 22:42

The link says Hamas wants permanent ceasefire.

They want a permanent ceasefire thst leaves them in situ. That's clearly not going to happen.

Theyve rejected the proposed ceasefire that would require them to no longer govern Gaza.

It takes 2 to tango and Netanyahu’s government not interested in a ceasefire.

stomachamaleon · 25/12/2023 22:55

@SomeCatFromJapan that's the one I am talking about. Has been offered in the last couple of days I believe.

As much as I want Hamas gone and I'm inclined to believe they don't want to give up their power, sky news is reporting that Hamas leaders have said this isn't true

They won't negotiate anything unless there is a full ceasefire.
The Egyptian plan doesn't start off with a full ceasefire but one that can eventually possibly lead to one
I would also be interested to know if anyone knows what Israel's reaction to the Egyptian proposal is, as I haven't seen that anywhere

Silence1 · 28/12/2023 22:35

"The reluctance of some U.S. allies to link themselves to the effort partly reflects the fissures created by the conflict in Gaza, which has seen Biden maintain firm support for Israel even as international criticism rises over its offensive, which Gaza's health ministry says has killed more than 21,000 Palestinians.
"European governments are very worried that part of their potential electorate will turn against them," said David Hernandez, a professor of international relations at the Complutense University of Madrid, noting that the European public is increasingly critical of Israel and wary of being drawn into a conflict

Yeah Iran released this video message. The fact that Israel chose to extra judicially/illegally kill an Iranian General on Syrian territory is extremely reckless.

Well the UK, US and France may announce joint strikes against Yemen. It has just escalated, David Cameron has just spoken to Iran. The fools who want war with Iran may have just got their wish. Poor world.

Thereissomelight · 31/12/2023 18:38

I can’t see anything on that yet @BelleHathor
Let’s hope this doesn’t escalate. And the power crazed psychopaths don’t drag us all down a very dark road.
