Shattered healthcare and sanitation systems must be restored in Gaza, says World Health Organization.

UN official Tor Wennesland warned the humanitarian situation “remains catastrophic”.

Israeli bombardment has killed more than 14,800 Palestinians, including 6,150 children and more than 4,000 women, according to health authorities in the enclave.

Now the WHO as well @eardefender .

Respect to the WHO and to the UN who call out war crimes and barbarity when they see them. No amount of smearing, distraction and so on will convince me any different.

So you don't think there should be at least an investigation about who knew what about the WHO and UN funded hospitals and schools being used as military bases for a terrorist regime?

restabove · 29/11/2023 12:49

@eardefender Please don't put words into my mouth.

I'll trust the opinion of the WHO, UN, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the Hague and other respected organisations on what is required as to "investigations" into either side.

TodayInahurry · 29/11/2023 13:04

WHO and the UN are now discredited organisations controlled by such virtuous countries and Russia, China, etc I believe is the country in charge of female rights, the country that kills women for not wearing a headscarf😡

I get why people would want to discredit and smear organisations like the UN and WHO that speak out against injustices carried out by Israeli govt in Palestine, especially if those individuals have a pro-Israeli government agenda.

Fortunately I see smears for what they are, and have even more respect for them for speaking out against injustice.

Francesca Albanese has faced calls for her dismissal from multiple fronts, including Israel and the US.

Everybody but Israel smear everybody and everything. As Steve Bannon said about his campaign for Trump flood the information sphere with so much shit no one can tell truth from lies. That and a mostly compliant western press oh and kill as many press as you can. But Israel has crossed a Rubicon this time and maybe walked straight into Hamas's demonic trap which was to lure them into a profound and devastating counterattack that the would lose the PR war. That and Netanhayu's Trumpian neo fascist policies always wherever they seed their poisonous so called populist views end up destroying the body politic they profess to serve.

What about Amnesty international, Human rights watch, Save the Children, The Norwegian Refugee council, Trocaire, Doctors Without Borders, Reporters without borders?

all of these are sounding alarm bells about the injustices in Gaza.

Do you discredit all of them?

Yes and it was part of the plan “to make Gaza uninhabitable”, according to an article I shared from Israeli newspaper written a month ago.

There were two posters on here who kept insisting Israel has no choice but to “defend itself” in the manner they chose (targeting women and children and internationally recognised safe zones -though they used the disgusting propaganda line “human shields”, you know, Israel has no option but to blow up that school/ hospital/ refugee camp etc…) but I thought they might just not realise what they were supporting…

I shared that article and the subsequent report by a British Palestinian doctor working in Gaza that warned it was an intentional humanitarian catastrophe that will claim tens of thousands of lives… I asked for their thoughts. I really wanted to know if they realised what was happening, totally unconnected to getting rid of Hamas.

One replied saying she’d have a think, never replied afterwards. The other wrote about how Hamas had contacted other terrorist organisations asking for them to assist them. That was her reply. I remember she said she was “anti-war”… and yet she didn’t seem to blink when confronted with genocide.

I cannot express how disturbed I was. A reveal of the fact they kind of knew it was nothing to do with Hamas really. Somehow people have, over the past two months, gotten on board with the intentional killing of innocent civilians, women and little children using starvation, unclean water and epidemic spread as weapons of war in intentionally overpopulated camps.

Where do you go from there? When people confuse their utter lack of humanity for pragmatism, saying “oh well that’s war”, despite there being rules to war that this particular onslaught has violated so outrageously, and promises to continue doing so. What it is Hannah Arendt wrote… the banality of evil?

I am so so scared for those people in Gaza. God help them.

And then, all those denialists… they won’t believe the figures even from the nyt. I think deep down they know though.

So people approach it differently to you. So what. You don't have the moral upper hand.

Aswad · 08/12/2023 17:08

That’s a new one, I’m going to discredit the UN and WHO…

Toothyfruity · 08/12/2023 20:05

If you're on the opposite side of the UN, Amnesty, Human Rights Watch, WHO and pretty much every reputable human rights organisation in the world, maybe you're on the wrong side.

I'd also have major concerns about disease and thirst killing thousands. I mean it's inevitable if Israel doesn't stop. People won't survive living in cramped conditions with very poor sanitation, no medicines or access to health care, no clean water or proper food. Of course they're going to get sick and many will die. Especially babies and old people.

butterminttea · 08/12/2023 20:46

Israeli gov has a lot of power and influence across the world from the media to lobby's across foreign politics hence why they were able to get away with a lot of crimes pre Oct 7th and if the UN, WHO etc are alarming the world about this, you got to actually stop and think and question all of this and remove all of your prejudices.

If you're a Palestinian right now you will die of 3 things 1) Israel's carpet bomb 2) Hunger and thirst and 3) disease.

IIRC Israel has declared all of the above mentioned organizations antisemitic at one point or another.

It's just awful. I've seen people describe the hostages not receiving medication or adequate food or medical care being described as abusive, horrific and inhumane. The very same people that decry that are backing Israel inflicting that very same inhumane abuse on every Palestinian. It's like being in the twilight zone. I really don't know how the US can allow this to continue when attacking medical centres is supposed to be a war crime. Collective punishment is supposed to be a crime against humanity.

feralunderclass · 08/12/2023 23:07

Well of course. Anyone who takes issue with any of the atrocities and human rights abuses Israel commits is an antisemite. It's tedious at this stage.

@OuiOuiKitty the cognitive dissonance is really something to behold. My brain can't compute it a lot of the time.

twilightmoon3 · 09/12/2023 00:39

At this stage the only logic in Israels response is slaughter and vengeance. If they cared about the hostages they wouldn't be flooding the tunnels. This conflict didn't start on October 7th, didn't happen in a vacuum. This war will not end. The suffering continues and 10s of thousands Palestinians are and will die. This is by design and America and us and the wider west by supporting this are complicit in these crimes. We have lost the moral high ground and our enemies know it as Putin at COP wasn't slow to remind those gatherered as to our weasel words about Ukraine.

We all agree on that.

Some don't agree that the Israeli military is carrying out war crimes on a civilian population and that's the problem on most of these threads.

They certainly are.

The same WHO that were slagged off during Covid. Now they are the greatest thing since sliced 🍞

Okay... I didn't "slag them off" during COVID so not sure of the relevance there. I thought people in the UK were more annoyed about the government flaunting their own lockdown rules.

Applesauce123 · 09/12/2023 20:37

Interesting: Hamas has plenty of weapons but no food storage?
Don't blame Israel, blame Hamas for prioritising weapons over food & medicine.

Applesauce123 if a country is being deliberately starved how much food storage would be needed and for how long?
