It’s just heartbreaking. I’ve seen videos on twitter that are beyond anything I can even begin to describe. Palestinians are being murdered in their thousands and the western media is largely pretending it’s not happening.

The average age of the people who have been killed in Gaza is FIVE years old.

The UK media are not showing how the Israeli government is openly talking about, and cheerleading genocide now. Israeli government speaks about Palestinians as if they are not humans. They are saying women are targets as they can have babies. I’ve just read how, since October 7th they have taken over 5,000 Palestinians from the West Bank and tortured them. They were already routinely arresting Palestinians and taking them away from their family with no reason and no but this is not being adequately reported.

Please, please visit sites such as 972 magazine and declassified uk. The BBC, etc, unfortunately aren’t reporting the extent to what is going on.

Anyone that thinks this will end if Hamas surrender and release all hostages is just plain naive at this point. I think its been made very clear that they consider all Palestinians complicit in althe oct 7 attack .
If hamas do surrender (of course they won't) then it will just be a reason for them to occupy Gaza. Which will only result in a vicious cycle of oppression and counter attacks. As it has been for several decades now.

That charity is equally condemning of Hamas and using children as human shields.

Maybe instead of people directing their anger at mumsnetters using words like genocide that offend them... Direct their anger at govts reprehensible actions like actual genocide instead?

Isn't that what the pro palestine marches are for? To protest the governments support for atrocities by Israel.

Yup. They are directing their anger at people using the word genocide rather than thinking of the fact that there is an actual genocide going on - bigger than the previous nakba's - under our watch and live streamed by social media. Anyone who says so otherwise is an anti semitic non-thinker

I don’t understand why people are raising the issue of persecution elsewhere to attack those highlighting the genocide being carried out in occupied Palestine. Is it supposed to be some kind of gotcha? Very odd.

@Roste it's a distraction technique, an attempt to smear those speaking out and a form of whataboutery. Basically a way of trying to shut down those speaking out.

It’s not a ‘distraction technique’.
It is an honest question as to why there are scores of threads about Israel and not one about any other genocide going on in the world.
The focus on Israel is, many feel, deeply anti semitic.
Feel free to report my comment, but this is just indicative of the racist rhetoric on so many of these threads.
Nobody is seeking to shut anyone down, simply to have a debate and share views.
Surely the purpose of this forum.

@GreekDogRescue maybe public opinion, on MN, at the moment, is extra horrified at what Israeli govt are doing in Gaza, than focussed elsewhere, which is why there are more threads about this?

It is going on right now, so extra urgent, and we are trying to raise awareness. Plus, our govt is supporting Israel's collective punishment and bombing campaign. Plus, we're all deeply aware of the oppression and apartheid state situation and really upset by it. Plus thousands of children are being killed, people have next to no food or water. Plus, there are plenty of anti-Hamas threads / opposite opinion threads, just have a look on the board. We don't have anything personal against Jewish people nor do we support Hamas. But we happen to feel the need to speak out against Israeli government behaviour. This one has been done to death, by the way, on most threads. Our reasons for speaking out have not changed.

As I said feel free to report any antisemitic posts to MN, there is a report button you can use.

To try and shut us down? I don’t think I will ever shut up about this after what I have witnessed since October. Too many Palestinians have been needlessly silenced already, the least the rest of us can do is speak up in their behalf at any opportunity.

Why so many threads about what is going on in Israel and not any about Congo ? Isn’t that a bit Islamophobic? If you want to talk about other conflicts in the world then start your thread but please don’t enter in a thread calling names when the title is clearly “Please do all you can to object to the genocide of Palestinians”.
