The irony is any Scottish person would be far safer in Israel than Gaza, even without the conflict. They know this. It’s very easy to support them ‘from afar’ as they’ll never have to go there, or come into contact with Hamas and their supporters in any way. I find it quite cowardly.

Not every Scottish person.

Polka83 · 24/02/2025 20:38

I really get the impression that the poster is unable to engage in discussion about alternatives to a Palestinian state, which to be fair to them - I don’t think Israel has a workable alternative either- but does render their continued posting on the matter pointless.

People who are rude about those wanting to highlight the plight of Palestinians come across as narrow minded and bigoted. I am surprised at their nativity in thinking Israel would get unconditional support for their bombing of Gaza.

stomachamaleon · 24/02/2025 22:14

didn’t stick to the ceasefire agreement and hasn’t released the 600 plus Palestinians from their jails.
That’s probably led to an increase in support.

@DelaneysOnTheWineAgain that happened before Israel knew that Shiri Bibas was not returned as promised. The 'support' has never been in question. Do you honestly think they just had another woman on ice just... you know..... in case. When they are claiming the Bibas family have been dead for over a year? Everything is a calculated move. And now (for their citizens) they are going to win top prize in 'see what happens when you fuck about'. Netanyahu hasn't broken the ceasefire.... their needless crusade to rid the world of Jews has. Stupid men win stupid prizes. Make Israel chose between national security and who is left in Gaza.

And then they made hostages watch as their friends were released. Men clearly starved . I have yet to see a starving person/ persons in any of the footage released from Hamas' Pr stunts or Al-Jazeera.

And @EasterIssland still no answer of teams. Galatasary which is hardly a shock when they are Turkish and the local Dublin team that has the Palestinian flag on their promotional shirts. Hardly a grand-swell of public support. Laughable really as it's the same teams it would have been pre Oct 7th as it's antisemitism based.

Yes I know who you mean.

Also, no I’ve not been to Gaza that doesn’t mean I can’t feel empathetic towards Palestinians because they’re governed by terrorists. It’s like I couldn’t feel empathetic for Afghanistan women because they’re governed by talibans.

Here's a thread of some of the football club protests from all arounf the world:

Also, Kendrick Lamar's superbowl half time show has become the most watched in history (133 million views so far), a positive side effect is that more people are finding out about the dancer who held up the Palestinian and Sudanese flag. He has even made it into artwork.

Thanks for that @BelleHathor i completely lost count of all the Red card protests, it’s really great to see so much support for the Palestinian people

Can I ask why there has been no show of support or light projector flags for Ukraine in Islamic countries? Or any acknowledgement at all, really? Does this all just work one way?

Good for them. Nothing good about being puppets of warmongering neocons. This conflict could have been resolved at the table without using Ukrainians as human fodder.
If I can't convince you, listen to Jeffrey Sachs:

Well; you’ve just shown your true colours. Happy to support the Russians in their land grab, but apparently it’s outrageous you think the same thing has happened to Palestinians. You’ve hugely discredited yourself here, but that doesn’t surprise me because like I said it’s not about wrong or right to you - just ‘Gaza wants, Gaza gets’ at every turn.

Terrorists whose aims they broadly support even if they would prefer another group in charge.

You need to face the facts, no matter how uncomfortable for you.

Absolutely, quite a few clubs, Never was just a couple as Easter told us, though others might have an interest in making it seem "limited" 😏.

Well, quite a stretch to draw a parallel with Russia and Israel. My only true color is being against unnecessary wars and loss of human lives. It was known long before that NATO expansion to Ukraine would be a reason for Russia to attack Ukraine. As a result, Ukraine is destroyed, so many men have died or permanently injured unnecessarily. They were basically used as a pawn. Do I support Russia? Why would I? Both Turkey and USA have history on bad terms with Russia. We (Turks) know how brutal they can be. But the same way that USA would oppose to military bases of Russia/China (let's say) in Mexico, Russia has a right not to want military bases in its border. Your or my feelings don't matter, this is the norm in foreign relations and the consequences were known beforehand.

Here is Dr Mearsheimer explaining all these in a short video:

Then you’ll have no problem strongly condemning Hamas who carried out October 7th knowing full well what would ensue. But I’m willing to bet your next post will not be ‘I fully condemn Hamas’

Or does provocation only apply to Russia in your view and not Israel?

I fully and strongly condemn Hamas for October 7th.

A good video regarding “show Israel the red card” and why this is not something new but similar calls have been done in the past (& reasons behind them)

Thank you for this. I watched the whole speech Sachs gave to the EU Parliament. It was fascinating. He is very brave and it deserves to be widely watched - even if people don’t agree with his opinion, as it does at least detail events that people may not be aware of.

He says that the war in Ukraine could have been completely avoided- but Zelensky was told by the US not to enter into negotiations with Russia. I wonder whether the average Ukrainian would have preferred neutrality and not joining NATO as opposed to the war they are now in. I also wonder if this is what Trump means when he says Ukraine started the war?

The main message I got from it is that it is diplomacy and not war that leads to ultimate peace. So whatever @Wildflowers99 thinks of the merits of a Palestinian state- Israel needs to negotiate with Palestinians to seek a longterm peaceful situation.

Not sure why Trump said so especially after he brought up USA's access to Ukrainian rare minerals. Now, they will sign a deal with Zelensky for USA's access to Ukrainian rare minerals. So was this war about access to these minerals in addition to weakening Russia? Is lithium the new oil? Will USA continue financial support to Ukraine to continue to fight? I'm curious about these as well. One thing for sure, we are going through some strange times.

There may well have been an element of that for both sides. It probably deserves a thread of its own. I have read that the areas that Russia has got control of in Ukraine are rich in rare minerals.
Is there potentially an element of monetary gain with situation in Gaza - particularly now for Trump who seems to want payback for aid US gives?

Agree @Polka83 and @OchaLove there is definitely some sort of alternative motive going on.
These things usually involve money in one way or another
