Conflict in the Middle East

Thousands leave Gaza City after Israel leaflet drop urges them to

BBC news verify tonight.

Thousands of Palestinian people leaving Gaza City on foot. Lots of movement.

Israel has been dropping leaflets urging they move south. Thousands are doing so safely.

They are taking on Hamas and pleased that people are moving so not to be caught up in the fighting. People are walking in their thousands.

One lady said they walked past tanks 'from both sides'.

Did Hamas use aid that was for supporting their civilians to finance the building of tunnels and weapons? Does anyone know if that’s true?

Of course it's true. Where do you think they got that kind of money. We should have sent food not money.

Am I the only one confused by this?

I saw that on the news too. Some people don't seem to realise Hamas have tanks and heavy artillery.

@Toothyfruity , I was going to PM you but I feared it might come across as aggressive. I just want to know - I see your posts across many of the threads to do with Gaza. What has made you so virulently anti-Israel and (dare I say) anti-Semitic?

Wow. Her posts here on this thread are not anti Semitic? They are stating facts and thousands of individuals share the same feelings. What’s so antisemitic about her 2 posts here? What am I missing?

Hamas don't have tanks.

Of course Hamas don't want the civilian population of Gaza to move out safely to the South of the country. They would lose their human shield living in Gaza and lose protection of their tunnel system under the city. The UN are right to make them move out to safety.

It's not safety though is it? If Israel is bombing the entire strip?

No it’s not. It’s just a theory. The funding they receive is from individuals in other countries. Very rich individuals. The Arabs are full of them. It’s not taken from charities.

How come the escaping Palestinians told news reporters she had walked past tanks from both sides? Do you think she made it up?

She meant she was surrounded by Israeli tanks on both sides of the road. Not sure if you're being deliberately obtuse.

No I'm not being obtuse. I read it as tanks from both sides of the war.

I've coincidentally just seen the clip with English subtitles on Al Jazeera. She actually says the word "sides" (plural). Like there are tanks on all sides, or tanks at the sides. She does not say "both sides".

I speak Arabic. It's clear in Arabic, ambiguous in English.

And it's obviously only Israeli tanks because Palestinians don't have any. And you can be absolutely certain of that, because Israel would NOT be quiet about it: we'd have been shown images to prove they're not civilians.

Shows just how important good translation is though! It's a real skill and is exactly who automated translation is problematic.

@caringcarer this is a good explanation

They may be safer in the south than the north but they are not safe. The south is being bombed to isn’t it? Just not as much.
I know Israel has been giving warnings to the civilians to be fair but let’s not overstate the case here. The people in the south are not nice and safe. They’re still trapped in a war zone.

As for Hamas - are they a bunch of jokers hiding behind civilians or are they in fact a well funded fighting force with an underground base and loads of ammo?
It seems to me Israel is behind the eight ball because they’ve suddenly seen how dangerous Hamas actually are and so are coming down on Gaza like a ton of bricks in a panic. They’d be better off admitting that rather than banging on about human shields.

The relentless bombardment suggests that the human shield theory isn't working out very well in practice. 1.5 million displaced and approaching 11000 dead, over 4000 of which are children not including the 1300 children missing, presumed buried in the rubble.

There is no safe place in Gaza, the south is being bombed too.

A 2009 report by Amnesty found that the IDF used Palestinian civilians as human shields more often than Hamas did.

How do people carry on believing that Gazans choose to put themselves in harm's way?

Interestingly Hamas are not happy with people moving to safety. Hamas have made a statement that 'the UN is involved in the forced evacuation of Gaza City'. Do they not want their civilians to be safe!!!!!!!! Beggars belief.

Ukraine wanted their civilians to be moved from.harms way so the army could fight. Hamas appears not to want that!!!!

You are talking out of your bump ! People know that if they leave they will never come back no right to return ...
the images of elderly people walking for hours is so heartbreaking yet you people see it as kindness form israel
Oh look how cute they give them warning before grabbing their land bless their heart 😏
Your propaganda is not working anymore people can see through your bullshit

It is utterly chilling to see the might of the Israeli army shelling defenceless civilians. There must be another way. There must be a way that does not involve children having to die slow, painful and lonely deaths lying under rubble. That does not involve making orphans of so many children and destroying so many families.

I really don't think people understand how huge a thing moving south is for Palestinians. They don't understand the fear and emotion that comes with the feeling that this is another Nakba. Israelis are putting their flags on Palestinian land and driving them out. This doesn't feel like moving to safety to them, it feels like ethnic cleansing.

HaveALaff · 10/11/2023 20:35

It's so traumatising to see all these families and children trying to move to safety. Only to have a similar chance of being bombed there. What if that was me and my children? What would we do? We would have nothing with us, no food, no water.

I also fear for the hostages that have been taken. Some of them have been bombed recklessly.

This will only fuel more hate towards Israel. How can it not? If I was a Palestinian I would hate Israel for what it has done now and for the past decades. These children are traumatised, anxious, fearful and hopeless.

As were forcibly displaced from the city, Israeli soldiers were taking selfies and photos under the rubble of homes on the street.

They were posing in-front thousands of displaced dehumanized Palestinians

Wow that’s interesting @Lolapusht so Palestinian youths are arrested for treason by their government for even communicating with IsraelIs (against their culture!) and one of their own dobs them in - some activist, who seems to have a lot of support, who worked for Amnesty International and is shouting about human rights and Free Palestine - fucking hell!

And people wonder why there can never be peace. Doesn’t take many brain cells to figure out why.

Indeed on the stolen uniforms point when Hamas terrorists invaded Israel some of them had Israeli uniforms on and were conning citizens into thinking they were safe and then murdering them in Israel The sooner Hamas is destroyed and Israel prevails the better.

Israel managed to murder premature babies in incubators today. They really prevailed. Israel has the most advanced spyware and surveillance equipment. They want the genocide so they can steal the gas. This is about occupying more land. Nothing to do with Hamas really. Israel funded Hamas in the first place
