Conflict in the Middle East

Thousands leave Gaza City after Israel leaflet drop urges them to

BBC news verify tonight.

Thousands of Palestinian people leaving Gaza City on foot. Lots of movement.

Israel has been dropping leaflets urging they move south. Thousands are doing so safely.

They are taking on Hamas and pleased that people are moving so not to be caught up in the fighting. People are walking in their thousands.

One lady said they walked past tanks 'from both sides'.

Have you read the account of a random dentist leading the evacuation having been phoned by Israeli military? They were telling him which areas to evacuate and how long he had. It was weird beyond all belief but apparently verified.

maybe you shouldn't start threads about things that you know nothing about.

People can start threads and discuss whatever they want to, whatever their level of “knowledge” around the subject matter. Also not agreeing with your opinions doesn’t mean they “know nothing”. No one knows the full story, not even sanctimonious MNetters sat on their laptops in Slough.

I mean it's not an opinion. Bombing people and threatening them with even more bombing whilst forcing them into a tiny unsafe space that you also happen to be bombing is ethnic cleansing.

LittleGreenDragons · 08/11/2023 21:24

That was my immediate thought too. My second was they are being grouped into a larger mass for bombing. Another refugee camp scenario. Poor buggers 💔

Edited

That cannot happen. That would be unthinkable 😪

Yeah. I think we can take it that you're letting on to be ignorant. If you were genuine you might react to the whole ethnic cleansing thing.

I think you are right about that

Did Hamas use aid that was for supporting their civilians to finance the building of tunnels and weapons? Does anyone know if that’s true?

Parkingt111 · 08/11/2023 21:39

When I saw the pictures today it really just reminded me of the Nakba. That was my first immediate thought and I imagine many people felt alot of emotion seeing those images today
Will they ever be allowed back? Who knows
And even if they do it will simply be a wasteland that they come back to
This Israeli politician said this on the 7th of October
I'm sure he must be extremely pleased by what he is seeing in Gaza now

Alcemeg · 08/11/2023 21:40

It would have been nice if Hamas, and all the Gazans who so enthusiastically participated in the 7 October attacks, had given people a couple of hours' notice that they were about to be tortured, raped, mutilated and burned alive.

Alifestylechoice · 08/11/2023 21:40

As a Jewish person I'm sickened by the last month. I'm distraught at seeing people forcibly removed from their homes and lives. Absolutely sick. Yes, I'm also sickened by the hamas attack, but I will not compare a terrorist attack after 75 yrs of brutal occupation with a genocide of mainly children

uhuh. So many Jewish people with this opinion these days….

Namesbeenchanged · 08/11/2023 21:40

That's horrendous, Imagine the horror and panic. I've just read it, if was a normal neighbourhood with no strangers or hamas there!!

Oh come on @RudsyFarmer do you actually think Hamas are the ‘good guys’ here? This beggars belief

SisterMichaelsHabit · 08/11/2023 21:44

Civilians are not collateral. "An eye for an eye" is not a sound legal basis for a war. "He hit me first" is not a rationale for forced resettlement of an entire population or murdering thousands upon thousands of people.

For centuries, people have justified extreme overreactions to people who threatened their status quo with "If X had done Y so many more people would be dead now."

"If Guy Fawkes had succeeded..." "If Kett had defeated Warwick..." "If the witches hadn't been caught by this witch finder..."

Cue abhorrent revenge-sadism that the people cheer on because it's more interesting than a rainy Thursday, it's not happening to them, and they had to pick a team because we've all been conditioned to support our team.

The fact remains, civilians are not collateral. Turning around and saying "But Hamas won't fight the Israelis, they're letting these people get killed" is irrelevant, the Israelis aren't robots set to kill, they can just stop and walk away and stop treating humans like animals, instead of gunning for revenge. They are literally rounding up humans into one place and executing them.

How can we look at the past in horror and justify the same things ourselves when they unfold before us?

Has it ever once occurred to you that you can express sympathy for what the Palestinians are going through and still be anti Hamas
The scenes witnessed today were extremely upsetting
Do we have to make it into a competition
I have seen many Jewish and pro Israelis who have shown alot more empathy for the Palestinians than you have

What do you mean 'strangers'? Your posts are really odd.

HeidiInTheBigCity · 08/11/2023 21:45

Let me put this in strictly academic terms:

That is a totally new level of "fucked up beyond repair!".

Basically, they are saying: collaborate and live, resist and die!

If your employer did this to you, not only would you win your tribunal, you would also make it to various front pages!

... but, hey, different rules when you happen to be a state, I suppose!

I just read the entire story. Mahmoud daid he didn't understand why they bombed his building because there were no strangers there, they knew everyone. If you read it you will see what I meant. He basically said why this building we know anyone so there were no hamas there.

@Namesbeenchanged a difference between Palestinians and Ukrainians , the later ones have got passports the first ones aren’t allowed out of their country. They need permission from Israel to leave the open air prison. The borders for them are closed , no country wants to take them so the people you’re seeing being moved have nowhere to go Outside of the prison. They can go to the south (where they are being bombed), they can go to a UN building (where they’re being bombed) or to a refugee camp (where they’re being be bombed)

also, how do they know that those moving wherever they’re going don’t belong to Hamas as well? I read today that only a small % of those killed are meant to be from hamas. Basically they’re destroying their lives and we shouldn’t be romanticising this that thanks to Israel they’re allowed to leave where? !!! To save their lives. Because there is nothing nice in this scenario at all.

also, Hamas won’t be destroyed. It’s an ideology and there will be future hamases that this war is baking.

Namesbeenchanged · 08/11/2023 22:04

@EasterIssland
Thanks I get that.
I'm not romanticising the situation. I was thinking that at least moving from the bit where Israel have invaded and fighting on the ground with Hamas.
