Conflict in the Middle East

What are the people "Marching" in London every Saturday realistically hoping to achieve?

It won't change UK government policy. It won't result in a ceasefire in Gaza. It won't magically resolve the situation in Palestine.

Same as all the other big marches - War in Iraq etc. Changed nothing.

"Get rid of Netanyahu". This is possibly on the cards anyway by a democratic election. Does anyone know how soon that could be? Does the Israeli constitution - if that is the right word - have the scope for a vote of no confidence in him at this stage, and would the replacement of him by another person in his party make a difference?

Yes it’s very clear how extreme Hamas are

They won’t say ok you take over

It’ll be to their end

Israel is exactly the same. Extremist and controlling and because of them being the 'best investment the US ever made' they are really fucking dangerous. Both need new governments and the leaders of both need to be charged with war crimes. Backers of the conflict in the US and the UK also need to be charged to make it clear that in future that collective punishments will not be tolerated. The UN needs to step in here with peace keeping boots on the ground in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza until everyone can act like grown ups. The UN needs to end the seige on Gaza and allow the people there to prosper with international support and funding from Israel(or their from their backers the US) to repair all of the damage they have caused and the reverse the purposeful strangulation of the economy in Gaza. The UN can't leave until everyone has access to the appropriate amount of water and electricity, the apartheid ends and every scrap of control Israel has over Palestinians is gone.

Parkingt111 · 08/11/2023 12:46

Sorry if I caused any upset
I by no means profess to know all the answers and maybe I'm too optmistic, all I know is that what is happening now can't be the only solution
And until both sides don't take accountability then we will just continue to go round in circles

upinaballoon · 08/11/2023 12:48

Original question - what are the people, marching(?) on Saturdays, hoping to achieve? Different people , different hopes.
Were the young men on local news last evening or on national news? - the one who presumably says 'from the river to the sea' and doesn't even know which river it's about?

So peacekeeping troops from various countries including our own will then be the target of Hamas. Remember how that has gone in the past! The minute peace keepers leave back come the extremists.
Also are you volunteering your son/daughter family members to go in and sort Hamas and 'keep peace'.

If only Hamas would think of their OWN PEOPLE and put down arms and negotiate

Do you mean with or without Hamas still in place?

DevonWindyWeather · 08/11/2023 12:55

@OuiOuiKitty

Maybe in your masterplan you could perhaps suggest some Hamas accountability and maybe the multi millionaire leaders in Qatar could cough up a few pence in rebuilding the country they happily parasite off of.🙄

Why would I say both need new governments if I meant with Hamas still in place Confused

Angrycat2768 · 08/11/2023 13:17

I don't know whatvthe alternative is to some sort of peacekeeping force though. You can ask Hamas to take accountability as much as you like but they are a death cult. They couldn't care less. We can't even call Hamas leaders to acvount who live in the UK!

I said that the leaders of both should be charged with war crimes.

How would you get rid of them?

MrsSkylerWhite · 08/11/2023 13:18

Sausagenbacon · Today 12:15

Where have you been these past few year? The far right has already risen. Look at the government front bench.

“Ridiculous.”

In your opinion. Fair enough. Not in mine.

Hamas have offered to negotiate. People are already doing peace keeping all of the world, I don't think their moms and dad's volunteer them? They choose it.

EasternStandard · 08/11/2023 13:18

I'd ask DevonWindyWeather to tell the UN where the leaders are are seeing as she has inside scoop and arrest them.

So international orgs would arrest Hamas leaders and followers?

I’m not sure it’s easy to get their names but if it is how would you ensure wherever they are isn’t lined with traps which detonate?

You are dealing with an extreme situation not comparable to here

EasternStandard · 08/11/2023 13:38

And how do these peace keeping people making arrests protect themselves as they move around trying to arrest Hamas?

Iwantcakeeveryday · 08/11/2023 13:44

Hamas aim is to rid the world of jews, do you trust them? With your children? I think you are incredibly naive about what it would actually take to get rid of them. we can't get rid of ISIS, what makes you think we can get rid of Hamas? If it was that simple, it would have been done already.

EasternStandard · 08/11/2023 13:49

Hamas let everyone know their extreme commitment to barbarism on October 7th, they also repeat their aims

Why anyone would downplay that I’m not sure

But it does mean any suggestions not accepting Hamas as they are are not feasible at all

Reallifelurker · 08/11/2023 08:10

You surely can't be serious?
Not a single one promoting hate

While the actions those articles describe are indeed out of order I think it’s telling that you searched the internet for articles about antisocial protesters and the only ones you could find were in the Daily Fail.

Edited

Well my response was to the poster that said that not a single march promoted hate- so even just a few contradicts the post. However, it's more than a few and I chose the Mail as it's not behind a paywall.

How about this then:

UK: Pro-Palestinian protesters arrested as sit-in brings train station to standstill

Police have arrested 11 people during a fourth week of pro-Palestinian protests in central London. It comes after thousands of protesters gathered in Trafalga...

The whole focus on here only seems to be on Hamas
Whilst totally ignoring once again that the israeli government are also an issue.
How would Netanyahu and Co also be removed? And who would they be replaced with which would be a better alternative.

Whilst Israel continues to maintain on the face of it that their only goal is to remove Hamas, the IDF soldiers are constantly filmed singing provocative songs on how they are going to take over Gaza, return to their ancestral lands and a complete lack of any empathy for the civilians deaths in Gaza
Whilst we all agree that the settlements in the west bank are illegal and a serious issue, there are people like this who is the spokesperson for the Jewish community in Hebron posting up tweets like this
There are serious issues on both sides that can't be ignored

The problem with the calls for ceasefire is that whole focus seems to be only on Israel.

Not true
But I see how you ignored multiple other posts that I posted before this one and just focused on that

You will not get any part of your list with Hamas in place. So you’ll need a viable solution first.

Israel is a democracy if you want a PM removed it comes down to their democratic processes.

Il stop posting on here now as I said what I initially thought about the purpose of the march already
