Conflict in the Middle East

What are the people "Marching" in London every Saturday realistically hoping to achieve?

Flapjacker48 · 05/11/2023 09:34

It won't change UK government policy. It won't result in a ceasefire in Gaza. It won't magically resolve the situation in Palestine.

Same as all the other big marches - War in Iraq etc. Changed nothing.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been attending these protests. If that is the worst that has happened then they have been more peaceful than other protests for other causes.

All protests will have some idiots spouting hate. Overall though, they have been very peaceful from my personal experience.

Just saw a post that a truck full of water has been bombed ... We aren't okay with innocent civilians having no access to water. Poor children, poor elderly, poor pregnant women. I will protest for them.

Can we then talk about the millions of gallons of fuel retained for the air-conditioners for the Hamas Tunnels.

Water desalination plants are are without energy and cannot produce water as the tunnels come first.

The billions that have gone into the Hamas weaponry and tunnel structures, spent otherwise would have built communities.

Let's not also forget the Israeli ambulance staff shot in their vehicles helping the wounded.

Hamas does not care for its people or the children. This is about the destruction of Israel

Stomacharmeleon · 07/11/2023 22:42

It's truly heartbreaking both sides.
I wish Egypt would open the border. I wish Hamas would let them go and Israel could deal with Hamas.
I know this is a bit naive and many won't want to leave Gaza but I mean in the interim.
Release the hostages and have at the very least a pause/

With all due respect @HaveALaff that's not true. I posted yesterday that there are six groups associated with the March in London that are affiliated directly or have spoken positively about Hamas.

There is a dark belly with these marches but I think that's probably true of all marches like this. In this case they are an antisemitic underbelly. Some openly vocal. In the same respect if Tommy Robinson and gang turn up Saturday I don't think it's for love of king and country. It's a nasty racist underbelly.

So Hamas doesn't care about palestinians, Israel clearly doesn't either and please don't try and patronise me into telling me they do. Then where does that leave them? Should we not care either just because Hamas doesn't?
Where is the humanity
These are real humans with families and loved ones just like you and Iz

Stop blaming Hamas for everything. Israel is responsible for its own actions. If Israel choose to starve children then that's on them.

Are you going to blame Hamas for Israel withholding medical supplies too?

What are Hamas doing with medical supplies? Selling them on eBay and funding themselves?

@HaveALaff I do blame Hamas for that. I don't doubt they have medical supplies as well but they don't care about the Palestinians and that's why they needing aid in the first place.
You say Israel is responsible for its own actions but they withdrew from Gaza leaving infrastructure. Gazan's voted in Hamas who then destroyed everything.... have you ever read what they did to the synagogues after Israel left. They destroy everything because they hate Jews. Not very forward thinking some might say.... but they are ok. Not their people though.
Hamas knew this would happen. No anger for them? For the war crimes they have committed? Before you point the finger! Like not taking Civilians as hostages.

There are lots of Middle Eastern countries that don't bother with Gaza. It's unpalatable but you have to ask yourself why? Not one stepping in at the moment.

Hamas.

I stopped reading after the word BUT.

I'm sorry but they are responsible for their own actions. Just like how Hamas is. Everyone is and to suggest otherwise is ridiculous. Israel are responsible for murdering those children. They don't just die ... They are being bombed and those bombs come from somewhere.

Israeli forces regularly attack Muslim worshippers, I think it's 2 years in a row now during ramadan. Including children who were beaten while performing prayers. Should I take this to mean they hate Muslims?? Because that's what I'm understanding from this

Israeli forces unleash a second night of horror at al-Aqsa mosque

These attacks against Palestinian worshippers illustrate the sheer brutality of Israel's apartheid

But Amnesty missed out some crucial details. You could understand it as a disproportionately violent response by the IDF to the provocation of Palestinians throwing fireworks and rocks inside the mosque on one of the holiest sites in Islam and the holiest site in Judaism, during both Ramadan and Pesach. Traditionally tensions are very high in Jerusalem during this period and deliberate violent provocation inevitably sparks a violent response from the IDF.
Oh, and rockets.

https://news.un.org/en/story/2023/04/1135382

From the statement by Tor Wennesland, UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process:
I am disturbed by the apparent beating of Palestinians by Israeli security forces and large number of arrests. I also strongly reject the stockpiling and use of fireworks and rocks by Palestinians inside the mosque,”

“I call on political, religious and community leaders on all sides to reject incitement, inflammatory rhetoric, and provocative actions.”

Leaders on all sides must act responsibly and refrain from steps that could escalate tensions,” he said, adding that “the indiscriminate firing of rockets from Gaza is unacceptable and must stop.”

Israel-Palestine: UN calls for restraint following violence at Al-Aqsa mosque

UN Middle East envoy Tor Wennesland on Wednesday appealed for Israeli and Palestinian leaders to exercise restraint following the latest violence surrounding a holy site in Jerusalem.

For all the Jewish people on this thread, Palestinians aren’t actually Arab at all, and have very strong genetics ties to the people of Canaan, so you’re really just excusing the killing of other Jewish people! Let that sink in!

Spitting facts! I’m a Jewish person on this thread and this isn’t brand new shocking information to me but “OMG, Jews killing Jews, gotcha!” is a bit of a stretch.

Edit: a word.

Love it when people try to tell Jewish people about history or the middle east
😂

Constantly on mumsnet you get posters that seem to have only just found Gaza on a map try to tell Jews all about it. Else try to tell Jews about Arab or Jewish history.

It takes a special kind of person to do that. It really does.

G_d grant me the confidence of a sanctimonious MNer who thinks it’s their right to school a particular minority on their own history, culture and beliefs. It’s certainly a special kind of arrogance.

Reallifelurker · 08/11/2023 07:58

As other poster said they didn't bother to march when Syria killed thousands, no interest at all then! Why?

Just to repeat what has been said several times on this thread (which you possibly haven’t bothered to read) it’s a reaction to the PM insisting we back Israel 100%.
I don’t remember anyone saying the UK backs Assad 100%

Reallifelurker · 08/11/2023 08:05

This conflict has affected so many and I think it's partly because the people of Gaza are trapped, they have nowhere to escape unlike many other conflicts
And in such a tiny space too, and their essential lifelines are being bombed one after another
There are over a thousand people who are either stuck or now deceased under the rubble whose bodies are decomposing there. They can't even give them a funeral.
Why can't people understand why others would be upset about this and not just because they have a ulterior agenda

Well presumably because they don’t care about it (no matter how much they claim to).

Reallifelurker · 08/11/2023 08:10

You surely can't be serious?
Not a single one promoting hate

While the actions those articles describe are indeed out of order I think it’s telling that you searched the internet for articles about antisocial protesters and the only ones you could find were in the Daily Fail.

Parkingt111 · 08/11/2023 08:41

According to a Yougov poll that was carried out on the 19th of October 76% of adults in the UK wanted a ceasefire.
Keep in mind this was carried out 21 days ago.
Since then the situation in Gaza has drastically deteriorated
Many who attend these marches believe that backing a ceasefire is the stance our government should be taking

What are the people "Marching" in London every Saturday realistically hoping to achieve?
Angrycat2768 · 08/11/2023 08:53

But you can't have a one sided ceasefire, and thats what it would be. Maybe a prisoner exchange that would lead to a ceasefire but that would probably mean some very dodgy people being released back to Hamas. Hamas and Netenyahu need to go. Netanyahu will probably be voted out but Hamas won't be gone until they are eliminated and their funding stops.
