Conflict in the Middle East

What are the people "Marching" in London every Saturday realistically hoping to achieve?

It won't change UK government policy. It won't result in a ceasefire in Gaza. It won't magically resolve the situation in Palestine.

Same as all the other big marches - War in Iraq etc. Changed nothing.

I read your posts, I didn't report them but I can see why they were deleted.

Why?

Have you got nothing better to do then goad another poster?
Maybe a hobby might help?

If I repeat what you said then it basically undeletes them doesn't it?

But broadly speaking, you were accusing other posters of posting in bad faith.

All posters are free to report or not as they wish. But if you post against the guidelines and your posts are deleted, then that's not something you can really complain about.

Personally, I report offensive stuff, I don't see any need for other people to be subjected to shitty things deliberately posted to upset people. Letting it stand doesn't bring anyone any joy, and I don't think allowing MN become a cesspool just to educate people as to what horrible things people can say or think is the way forward. If people want that, they can look on twitter.

Giraffe the argument is that some posts need to stand else posters like cough cough cough say but I didn't do anything

Also antisemitism on mumsnet gets denied because the posts are mostly deleted

A edge sword but isn't everything these days

noblegiraffe · 06/11/2023 23:44

Were you the Truly from covid?

Wintersgirl · 06/11/2023 23:47

It’s probably a reaction to the PM telling everyone the UK is backing Israel 100%.

Yes, they don't speak for me...

😉

25milesfromhome · 06/11/2023 23:59

My concern is that some of the worst posters may not actually have the background they claim to have.

Is that because they don’t show the requisite amount of humility and gratitude?

noblegiraffe · 07/11/2023 00:17

Trulywonderful · 06/11/2023 23:56

😉

Omg. Fancy meeting you here. And being in agreement!

It'd be denied anyway. Look at the placards thread.

I've pondered a lot over deleting versus letting things stand and one of the big issues is that letting shitty stuff stand and challenging it instead is hard work. Repeating yourself over and over. And knowing that if someone is posting in bad faith they're just going to come along and do the same thing on the next thread and the next one. And people end up giving up and then the shitty stuff just stands unchallenged.

Oh giraffe we didn't disagree on everything during covid. It was mostly just the one matter

I hear you about deleted posts and have had similar pondering

At the moment my opinion is that when we have iffy posters other users need to see what they are really like. The trouble with deleting posts is that some people have gotten better at being sly with their Jew hate in the last few weeks. If their earlier posts remained maybe users would be less likely to get conned by what they post now

However I do keep flipfloping on this issue. So you could be correct. It is a tough one.

Reallifelurker · 07/11/2023 07:31

I haven't even read the posts but I already know @trulywonderful probably isn't truly wonderful

Truly a pain in the arse.
I thought you said you were only going to “school” people who didn’t argue back Truly

Reallifelurker · 07/11/2023 08:00

Jews have lived in the Holy Land before Islam existed. Do you know any history? Israel is not a 'newcomer'. All the states in the region were newly created in the aftermath of complex colonial histories.

I think you’ll find the Muslims had Jerusalem in their various Caliphates for quite a while. Arabs are also Semitic people, indigenous to that region.

The fact that Zionists claim they have more right to the land than the Arabs does seem rather arrogant (even though it may rhetoric rather than a genuine belief). The occasional cry of Israel Doesn’t Care What You Think doesn’t help with that.

As for the initial conflict as I said earlier, six of one half a dozen of the other.
