Conflict in the Middle East

What are the people "Marching" in London every Saturday realistically hoping to achieve?

It won't change UK government policy. It won't result in a ceasefire in Gaza. It won't magically resolve the situation in Palestine.

Same as all the other big marches - War in Iraq etc. Changed nothing.

@Iwantcakeeveryday

nothing. They need to do nothing.

These marches are not about you.
They are not support for Hamas
They are not hate marches
They are ordinary people horrified by the murder of innocents in Gaza.

Everyone (certainly on this Board) and worldwide media/politicians/celebs/ human beings have already condemned Hamas.

It's time for people to condemn Israel & their murderous collective punishment of civilians who are over 50% kids.

It's that simple

No, thats the problem with people like you, it is not simple. If you are only marching for one side, then you are not marching for peace, you are not concerned that Israel is surrounded by states wanting to wipe all of them off the planet. You are concerned by your own self righteousness.

Reallifelurker · 07/11/2023 08:53

Do they though? Israel apparently had a okay relationship with Saudi Arabia (normalising relations is the term that was used I think). Egypt closed its border to Gaza because it was also concerned about Hamas.
Iran is the only country that appears to be gunning for Israel.

Reallifelurker · 07/11/2023 09:38

Have you got nothing better to do then goad another poster?

I think we can all see who the goady fucker is.
😉🙃🤡

beachcitygirl · 07/11/2023 09:39

The anti-marchers can froth at the mouth with anger all they choose. Too bad. We still (just) live in a democracy.

The fact is people in their hordes all over the world want to show they stand with Palestine

That's why marchers are flying Palestinian flags and not white flags.

We stand with Palestinians.

Given that thousands of kids have been ruthlessly murdered by Israel in the past month, many want to show their politicians the strength of feeling. They also want to show Palestinians that we are bearing witness. That we see them, that we won't forgive or forget.

It's worthwhile even if it achieves nothing more than a millisecond of comfort for even one Palestinian under this evil bombardment of bombing.

beachcitygirl · 07/11/2023 09:43

@Iwantcakeeveryday I am marching to show Palestine I stand with them in this their hour of need as their children are killed by Israel.

On October 7 I along with any decent person stood with Israeli people and offered empathy &'sympathy.

There are Jewish people on these matches.

Unlike Israel where anyone raising a dissenting voice or publicly protesting against the destruction of Gaza is being arrested.

they still have the hostages... why aren't you marching for their return? why aren't the marches for everyone?

Iwantcakeeveryday · 07/11/2023 09:46

The anti-marchers can froth at the mouth with anger all they choose.

This kind of language betrays your supposed peaceful protesting. Its not the fact you protest people object to, but it's that you are taking sides and inflaming the situation, giving an outlet to anti semitism.

hamas has said > ceasefire and we will release those with non Israel nationality
release those 6k people and will release the Israel as well.

Umm isn't that anti semitic? And incredibly rude

beachcitygirl · 07/11/2023 09:53

@Iwantcakeeveryday because:

Hamas are terrorists and cannot be reasoned with or negotiated with in any good faith. Those bastards will do as they damm well please with those poor souls.

Israel's however is an ally and democracy & people feel that showing that the collective punsishmebt is being witnessed may helpZ
and the killing of all those innocent civilians & trying to get a ceasefire is the more urgent issue at the moment.

Don't start with the "all lives matter" whataboutery

My (and seemingly millions of marchers ) priority is a ceasefire now to stop the senseless murdering of mostly kids in Gaza.

We are clearly not going to agree. So I'll leave it there with our one to one and wish you well.

Parkingt111 · 07/11/2023 09:54

@PurpleChrayne
A kapo or prisoner functionary (German: Funktionshäftling) was a prisoner in a Nazi camp who was assigned by the Schutzstaffel (SS) guards to supervise forced labor or carry out administrative tasks.

I think you should ask MNHQ to remove your post
If anyone who was non Jewish or not Israeli said that about other Jewish people regardless of their views, you would rightly criticise them

Schiller · 07/11/2023 09:56

Parkingt111 · 07/11/2023 09:50

Umm isn't that anti semitic? And incredibly rude

I looked up the term kapos on a Jewish website to get a definition as it is new to me.

‘The German concentration campsdepended on the cooperation of trustee inmates who supervised the prisoners. Known as Kapos, these trustees carried out the will of the Nazi camp commandants and guards, and were often as brutal as their SS counterparts. Some of these Kapos were Jewish, and even they inflicted harsh treatment on their fellow prisoners. For many, failure to perform their duties would have resulted in severe punishment and even death, but many historians view their actions as a form of complicity’.

So any Jewish person wanting a ceasefire is like a concentration camp inmate, carrying out the orders of nazis? Wow.

bearofepic · 07/11/2023 10:00

@Parkingt111 the poster is showing their true colours.

Basically accusing everyone of being anti-semitic for not supporting the war. But then also branding any Jewish people who do not support the war in anti-semitic terms.

This is sadly a commonly used smear tactic and shows you that many of the claims of anti-semitism or anti semitic smears are simply used to shut down any persons who oppose the war, Jewish or not. Which is patently ridiculous.

Yes I didn't know what a Kapo was so looked it up and was shocked that she was referring to fellow Jewish people who hold a different view to her as that

BeginningToLookALotLike · 07/11/2023 10:08

But October 7th isn't over for very many people - who will all have different views of their own.
The bodies of those killed at the peace festival are still being recovered, i.e. not all in one piece.
The hostages are missing.

Please don't use 'all lives matter' with a poc who has not at all said such a thing, nor would I. You are taking sides, and I am telling you, that is why people object to the marches. There was a ceasefire in place before Oct 7th.

There was a ceasefire before 7-10 that settlers and idf weren’t respecting.

My ancestral family and community were almost obliterated by the Nazis & subjected to forced sterilisation & genocide -
I will say that if I so desire & you will not stop me standing up for other people subject to attempted genocide.

No matter what type of whataboutery you use.

Is that clear enough for you.

You are directing comments at myself, a person of colour and falsely attributing an offensive term about me and my people, to me. Stop doing it. Stop singling me out for nastiness. You are incredibly unpleasant.

No, I reject your lazy accusation, it’s meaningless.

Now what was that you were saying about it being racist to point out that Islamic extremists were in part behind these marches? Article behind a paywall I am afraid, but if you care enough I am sure you’ll find a way to read it.
