barbie1 · 18/07/2010 17:12

it's so hard knowing what to do with regards to getting another dog, part of me would feel like its trying to be a replacement and would feel wrong to love it, if that makes sense. Dh came home from the vets the other day all sad after he was told that fred has only about 2 years left

Neeko · 18/07/2010 20:51

Hey peeps!
Hope you're all well. Another non-facebooker here (Where do you all find the time??) so I won't be passing information across cyber space either.

Vjay So sorry to hear about your dog Hope DS1 is coping ok.

Iggy Not long now. Bet you're swinging between fear and excitement.

Pfj hope you're bearing up ok. There's an interesting article on fertility in this month's Zest magazine (I buy it and pretend to myself that I'll do the exercises!)It recommends avoiding tinned foods and fizzy drinks etc in plastic bottles, especially those with the recycling number 7. Apparently it's all to do with BPA and this can raise the risk of miscarriage. It says you shouldn't heat things in the microwave in a plastic container either. Worth a try maybe?

MLS Welcome back. Missed you tons. Let the textathon commence

Cupcake I'd say just go for it with the holiday. I'd definitely do it but can't convince DH.

Blue Hope you had a fab time and your boys were ok without you (and you them)

Mermaid Loved all the orders you've been giving. Nice to see a glimmer of 'you'. Hope the sun is coming your way.

4ever Sorry to hear S was sick. It's always a huge worry when they do something out of the ordinary.

Annie In case I forget good luck when you go back to work.

Barbie Huge gold star to you for coping on your own. It's very hard, Glad to hear D is sleeping better too.

We've had quite a hard time with H recently and she's quite a grumpy baby anyway, so I've been making a concerted effort to put her on BW's EASY since yesterday. What a difference! She has been napping twice a day for at least 1.5 hours and then a short nap at tea time and is like a different child. I even managed to nip out alone to the Next sale today There's still a long way to go and she needs to be rocked to sleep in her pram and the kitchen extractor fan has to stay on the whole time, but at least we're making progress.

Hi to all those I've missed.

Neeko · 18/07/2010 20:51

Oh and clever Ajay There'll be no stopping him now!

iggypiggy · 18/07/2010 21:03

Ah sorry girls, must have seemed like random paranoia re: facebook ! Was just cos someone mentioned something that I was a bit uncomfortable with, have told them direct, so please don't anyone else worry! Wasn't meaning to be grumpy about it... Think I'll shut up now...

Neeko good news on your little one. am mainly excited at the mo!

vjay yay for the steps!

littlebellsmum · 18/07/2010 21:50

hello all
sorry i've been away a while but we are struggling a bit with baby J. the bowels have gone in the other direction now and she has the runs.....
Also she is so crap in the evening that I'm sure its colic ( last night screamed from 5.30 to 9 with few breaks and nothing consoles her. the others were unsettled in an evening but nothing like this.

Sorry to hear your news pfj

Iggy - anytime now, eh, can i vote for the 20th ie monday and say a girl? so exciting

barbie - i'm with you on the sharp little nails - they hurt like anything. j likes to grab my nipples owwwwwwww
re night feeds - if you did want to use formula, can you get cartons where you are the you wouldn't have to worry about makin up in the night?
neeko - we too are trying the bw and j has managed few naps in her basket, even when not fully asleep. takes some persuading though and never for more than 45 mins

vjay - ajay walking, how can that be happening so quickly...

got to go - gin waiting and i ca't type, feed and drnk at same time

littlebellsmum · 18/07/2010 21:52

looking at the typos i can't even manage two of those

mermaidspurse · 18/07/2010 21:52

facebook? what is this strange thing? Is it the strange communicaion tool that allows the first boy you ever kissed to contact you 3,000000 years later? eeeek. But it does mean you can see his beer belly and receeding hairline and think thank bejeezus for that narrow escape

cupcake tbh I felt a bit sorry for people on holiday with tiny ones. The plane, their poor little ears, too blimmin hot etc etc. Mums all seemed really stressed trying to cope. ds has really enjoyed the experience now he is older and they are useful as they can get you back to your room if a little too much wine is drunk

Am having a battle of the paint chart with dh I will so bloody well win.

Neeko kitchen extractor fan?

vjay hope ds is as ok as possiblexx

blue how is your head? hope you had a swell time and danced the nite away

mermaidspurse · 18/07/2010 21:55

lbm aww poor little j and all the rest of you. I hope you enjoy the medicinal gin and she feel better soon.x

Neeko · 18/07/2010 21:57

Mermaid It's the white noise Desperate times and all that. My electricity bill will be huge but at least I'll have time to spend with DD1.

LBM I'm impressed you can get J to sleep in the moses basket. H hated it and requires a good bit of energetic shoogling to get to sleep in pram. I'm hoping once she gets used to regular nap times I'll gradually be able to reduce props.

Anyone want to offer any advice?

MummyLovesSadie · 18/07/2010 22:30

Oh Vjay that's so sad about your dog.

Barbie I'd definitely recommend getting a breast-feeding necklace to save your poor boobies. Did I read somewhere you asking about milk at night feeds? We had one of these which was a god-send. The other alternative is if you can get your dd to take her ff at room temp - it wont harm her, it's just a matter of whether she likes it or not. Have you tried the little cartons of ready-made formula? If she'll take a feed at room temp you could keep one of those by your bed at night & then simply open, poor & feed.

4ever I used to fill dd's bottles with water in the morning, add the formula when needed & then reheat in the microwave for about 10 seconds. Whenever I'd find myself stressing about sterilising, I'd remind myself that the majority of people in the States NEVER sterilise their bottles, just wash them in the dishwasher. I always remember when dd was a few months old & I found out that I was the only one in my NCT class still sterilising, I stopped that day!

Louey hope you had a good day at the zoo.

Neeko shoogling? Is that a Scottish word? I think I like it ! I'm really pleased to hear that the BW is working for dd2, when I finish my Jenny Eclair book (that I nicked from my holiday villa!) I'm going to get stuck into 'The BW Solves All Your Problems'. Oh & I also ordered 'New Age Baby Names' from ebay today - I don't want a weird name but I just need some goddamn inspiration! I also need to order the 'Three Socks...' book you were telling me about.

Mermaid so it's not just me with some ancient relics from my past posing as fb friends then?

Cupcake I say take the holiday. You will be a nervous wreck but will be a very proud Mummy when you see how admirably you have coped. In my experience, most young babies sleep through most of the flight, just make sure you are bf'ing him for take-off & landing. Oh & one last thing, you do realise it won't technically be a holiday don't you? You still have the early mornings & the broken nights but at least it will be a change of scenery!

LBM do you have a cranial osteopath in your area? If not I can recommend a fantastic one in Woking who cures colic in one session.

Iggy glad you are sounding very calm about your impending starring role on the Emmsy's thread!

Right gotta go & finish my bloody boring Sainsbury's order.

iggypiggy · 19/07/2010 08:52

mls glad you think I sound calm I do feel it mainly!

lbm well 20th is tues, and my due date, so possible

I have a question for those of you that know... When you got to 40 weeks, how much baby movement were you getting? Cos mine is hardly at all, which makes me v anxious that all is ok... I am still getting a few little movements, but not much...

MummyLovesSadie · 19/07/2010 11:24

Iggy you get less movement at 40 weeks as there is barely any room in there for your lo to move. I'm 28 weeks today & feeling more movement than ever. I've got to the stage now where I can start to feel bits of baby poking out of me.

barbie1 · 19/07/2010 13:23

iggy i got loads of movement but thats because she was in distress, hence the rush to hospital....If you are worried just call your midwife, or drink something really cold...but like mls says its normal to feel hardly anything, means the wee one is resting before its big entrance!!

Hi everyone, not up to posting, awake most of last night with a very bad belly and sickness...most of night spent in the bathroom, worrying about how to look after the baby! She was fab though, i even convinced her to have a lie in with me until 9am this morning feeling a little better....

VJay · 19/07/2010 13:29

When do you stop sterlizing bottles then? I am still doing it!

iggy less movement is normal, but if you're unsure just ask your mw. As long as you are feeling something then that's ok

mls wowzers 12 weeks to go , that is fab

neeko not sure really, but was is BW?

Thanks for all of you asking after ds1. DH was telling his mum about poor doggy and ds1 was listening and went very quiet, so when dh came off the phone he asked him if he was ok and would he like to talk about it, so ds1 sadly nodded his head and promtly talked about his latest wii game

bluesatinsash · 19/07/2010 13:44

Hi guys,

Quick post from work whilst on my lunch..

Good to hear MLS and Neeko back and posting .

Vjay - belated[ sad] for the passing of your beloved pooch. How are you all bearing up this week?

barbie - D is crawling . Man she'll be off and running and asking for an i-phone for Xmas . B is still trying to crawl but not getting anywhere as he can't get 'ourchase' with thos shubby toes of his .

To add my tuppence worth re: night feeds. We used ot make up a bottle with water, pop it in thermos bag, have poweder in dispenser and make up on demand when B woke. It worked for us mainly because he was 5 months plus when we switched to FF and he used to wake once @ 1am so we knew to boil kettle at 10pm and water cooled to being nicely warm by wake up time.

BTW He is 7-7 now - did I tell you all? shockerooni . He loves his food so much that his tummy is nice and full. He is also much better than his bib brother at self settling through the night - clever boy.

Neeko - re: props. I still rock B for his naps in rockng chair but put him to ped awake at night. I still rocked Isaac to sleep last November as he was still napping after lunch. It was tricky as his legs nearly touched the ground but we managed . I think the MOST important thing is that H is actually napping regardless of how you get there. As she gets more predictable andyou know her sleep cues she will take less and less propage to go down and you can switch off the exctractor fan . You can buy CD's of white noise you know...

LBM - you sound like you are having a tough old time just now with J's colic. hope your DH is helping even just to take baby out of your arms for half anhour. Are you OK? Are you getting a break at all?

MLS - shoogling is indeed a good old Scots word. Same as rocking/swaying but with a bit more meaning. did you buy your DH that 'Katie's Coo' book for Father's Day?

mermaid lol at old boyfriend's getting in touch. I have on on FB whose last post was that he lost 3 stone and is now down to 14. He was a lithe 12 stone when we dated in 1992 . I would look alot flater if I married him .

louey - I hate when I lose a post, you almost feel like weeping. How is your SIL coping with the boys? Peeling them off her are you ?

Iggy - as long as you feel one or two movements a day then don't worry. You must be getting to the royally fed up stage by now.. not long though!

The wedding was fanbloodytastic. I had (and I quote) 4 glasses of champagne (waiters kept filling us up!)and 2 G&T BEFORE dinner followed by two glasses of red wine with dinner but I then very sensibly switched to water . Ceremony was lovely, the bride was my friend from university and it was lovely to see her up there as her last boyfriend went missing on Glencoe in 2006 and was never found so she has been through the mill these past few years but found a lovely man and the rest is history .

We had a great table and all got on sharing photos from FB on our i-phones and singing and dancing all night. DH and me were one of the last to leave @ 2am and he was so rough yesterday that he had to eat his fat man fry up in two sittngs . Bed at 9pm for us but I feel right as rain today.

Its just so reassuring to know I can still cut it socially . My voice is hoarse from all the singing and laughing - a rare old night all round.

Right better go and get back to work.

bluesatinsash · 19/07/2010 13:56

eeek! x-posts..

Vjay - they say 12 months for bottles but 6 months for eating/cooking equipment as they are putting things in their mouths by then.. I do the bottles still to ensure all stale milk has been zapped..

barbie - sorry to hear you have the lurgy... Midnight trips to loo are awful..

Just read back my post and at the spelling mistakes...

VJay · 19/07/2010 14:00

Thanks blue I thought is was 12 months for bottles, and that is the only thing I sterilize now.
