BESH is BACK for Spring. Come in, admire the cocktail bar stylings I have created for you. It's all lowlights and smooth sounds, and there's a rehearsal room in back for the GLEE practice.

The barman are beautiful, the Pit has been well stocked with beanbags and gin. So roll up all you 30-something BESHies who stopped counting cycles sometime in the last century, and grab a martini.

Humpety - give TNB a big and ask him how come the reproduction rate is so high in the developing world then! And then book a fortnight in the Maldives

Mahoosively pleased your ball is rolling

Scorpette · 02/06/2010 15:05

Camelina, I'm afraid even I think that's waaaay neurotic! Point out that the stress and misery of not having a lovely holiday/having IVF will make your core temp rise more than chillaxing in the sun somewhere

I feel like something that's been shat out of a dead dog's arse - would it be so very wrong to spend my last day off reading glossy and trashy mags and scoffing booja Booja ice-cream?

Scorpette · 02/06/2010 15:57

Had a rant in AIBU about World Cup being held in SA

PerfectDromedary · 02/06/2010 16:02

To be honest, though, I think it's quite sweet. I am a Bad Feminist.

Anyway, I have no idea what I will want to do in late August, so I am just going with the flow.

weewee Fank you! Am also pleased.

scorp Am jealous of the feet up/ice cream/glossy mag combo. Am bored with work today. Why do you disapprove of World Cup in SA?

Headbanger · 02/06/2010 16:30

Better Feminist than me, Humps. You know what I'm about to do? Make a pie so the OM has nourishing food for his night-shift packed lunches. Not that that in itself is bad, it's just it makes me feel all sort of proper somehow

Headbanger · 02/06/2010 16:31

by WHY

FFS. I have A level English you know!

Scorpette · 02/06/2010 16:51

SA = world capital of rape/sex crime/child abuse. Also huge probs with sex trafficking prostitution. World Cup creating even more sex trafficking and forced prostitution. Didn't even mention the AIDS factor! Also massive poverty and other human rights issues in SA being swept under the carpet - literally, as many shanty areas are being bulldozed and destroyed to prettify for tourists, without anywhere being provided for residents to go to (didn't mention that in my rant either!).

Also, football is zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Headbanger · 02/06/2010 16:55

Makes sense, Score, what you say there. Though I suppose the eternal naive bouncing optimist in me thinks it may hopeless have given a lot of the population something positive and exciting to focus on.

By the way. I don't normally go in for this 'my darling hubby is so marvellous' stuff. But he just called, and I asked how his day has gone. And he said it had been tres difficile, because he was called a domestic abuse case, and so he has spent all day comforting/interviewing/looking after a crying lady (he always gets those jobs. Crying ladies and lost children: that's very much his forte). I feel ever so proud. And really awful that I've been a temperamental nightmarish nagging old hag the last 2 or 3 days!

Headbanger · 02/06/2010 16:56

--hopeless- hopefully. What the deuce??!? I've been sunbathing. It seems to have evaporated my vocabulary.

Headbanger · 02/06/2010 16:57

hopeless

I'm fucking off back to the kitchen, where everything makes sense.

Scorpette · 02/06/2010 17:10

Somehow, I don't think a bit of sport will be much consolation to a 10 yr-old gang-rape victim with HIV, living in abject poverty with an overworked mother and alcoholic father. [humourless Feminist emoticon]

Mr Head does sounds rather marvellous, I must say

Headbanger · 02/06/2010 17:14

He has dimples. And they're honest dimples, if you see what I mean. Some people have them but are utter bounders. Those are deceitful dimples. I might compose a short monograph on the subject

On a tangential point, this summer I shall mostly be supporting Spain, because of him. "Oh what, because he's pretty?", I hear the cynics among you cry. No. Because he is a dear, good, noble, respectful man, who married his first girlfriend, and loves his baby daughter, and is about as far as you can get from the Coles, Terries and Rooneys of this world.

Disclaimer: I know nothing about football other than that I've lost at least £30 to Ladbroke's over the past year, betting on Torres to score

Scorpette · 02/06/2010 17:33

But... but... he has a slash through his eyebrow! Surely that negates all the positive things about him?!

This summer I shall mainly be ignoring as much of the World Cup as possible whilst going on and on about the Human Rights angle even when everyone's eyes have long glazed over and slagging off football and idiots with St George flags stuck on their cars with TYF

TYF only likes the Grand Prix and I can handle a couple of hours over a few weekends of 'neeeeeowwwwwm' (the cars, not him... oh, who am I kidding? ) interrupting my newspaper-reading every year. And yes, I rain on his parade by pointing out how eco-disastrous it is. As is all the air travel to SA, come to think of it. Joy - another reason to slag it off!

It's my light-hearted approach to life that keeps me going!

Headbanger · 02/06/2010 17:38

That slash is from a scar sustained when he single-handedly rescued a pregnant woman from an oncoming train. And that is the TROOF.

I hate the GP. The poor OM has learnt that even the sound of it filtering through several slammed closed doors puts me in a foetid temper

Scorpette · 02/06/2010 18:15

I'm not that keen on it either, but TYF is so laid-back, acquiescent, happy to let me watch whatever I want AND never asks for anything for himself that I can't say no to a few hours of brumbrums.

Is that troof or a joke about the scar? If so, he is an even nicer chap

Headbanger · 02/06/2010 18:25

Aw, you're much nicer to your fella than I am to mine!

Yes, that is the troof. Is also true that one day he will get lost in Hackney and just as he is wondering whatever will he do, he'll look up to see a tall stout woman with unbrushed hair coming towards him with outstretched arms, eyes a-glow with kindness and sisterly devotion....

Ariesgirl · 02/06/2010 19:45

Do I really want a baby? I mean really? Look at this little lot. And not just the gunman but everything. Hideous, hideous, hideous news.bbc.co.uk

Ariesgirl · 02/06/2010 19:46

I apologise if that's a depressing thing to post, but does anyone else ever feel like that? That the world's just too sick to bring new life into. I dunno...

Headbanger · 02/06/2010 19:59

Aries lover, it's because the world is so vile every now and then that good, kind, loving, compassionate people should have families. What if we all just gave up? Who would raise a generation of wise and kind and thoughtful children? I also think it's the best reaction to the horrors of things like the BP disaster, or New Orleans, or this massacre: trying to re-capture Eden, if you see what I mean. I honestly believe that. I know it sounds sort of faux-spiritual and stupidly optimistic, and like pretty much everything I say it's uninformed and not terribly well thought through, but I do mean it.

We can't surrender to wickedness. So there.

I'm going to be really embarrassed once I've pressed 'post message', so kindly do not acknowledge that you've read it!

Ariesgirl · 02/06/2010 20:35

You're right, I know you're right really. And I love the fact that you're cheerful and good and positive so I have acknowledged you. SO THERE!

But sometimes in my darker moments I think it would be better for the world if mankind ceased to exist right now.

Am off to sink a bottle of red.

Ariesgirl · 02/06/2010 21:22

Oops, I appear to have murdered the fred .

Scorpette · 02/06/2010 21:28

HeadsOrTails is right (as usual) - apart from the teeny-tiny proportion of people who are born with a brain deformity or receive ahead injury that make them psychopaths - bad people are made by bad families or, at the very least, by bad people. It falls to us, the nice people, to try to balance things out and also lead by example. The sort of people who will put huge amounts of thought and effort into pregnancy and child-rearing are generally, by dint of that very attitude, will have less children and start trying for them later (so less kids anyway), so we need to ramp up our efforts, not give in. I realise I sound a bit like a 1920's Eugenics-supporting Headmistress of a girl's finishing school here, but it's troo (and I don't support Eugenics!).

I'm not trying to say that people outside of our age group and demographic don't give their all to raising their children, just that er, well, BESHes do it BESHT!

PS BingoBangoBongo - I'm not nicer. I felt v when everyone was saying how they carefully consider their man's feelings about TTC - as I've mentioned on here before, I just say 'it's ovulation time, so we're having sex' and brook no refusal. Although we are both Scorpios and, as such, operate on a different level of sexual directness than everyone else

Scorpette · 02/06/2010 21:30

Ahead injuries are worse than getting a head injury

PerfectDromedary · 02/06/2010 22:04

What scorps and edie said. (As an aside, we should really find an issue on which we disagree. Just for the funs.)

I know what you mean, though, hairismyariels. Today has been a bad news day.

Scorpette · 02/06/2010 22:13

Today is indeed v I can understand mental illness but I can't understand the breathtaking selfishness and egotism it takes to go on a killing spree.

Drombeat, think up some contentious issues we can all enjoy a good falling-out over. New Dr Who? Erm... I have a feeling we'd all agree on more major issues!
