Hi Justshaggy,

I will recount my story as basically as possible. Apologies for filling up the thread and for repeating for those who have heard it.

I had a normal pregnancy with my 2 year old Jack, the birth was extremely traunmatic but he is healthy enough now and all was fine until last year. I am normally a healthy happy person, I am 32 now. I had to be hospitalized for emergency surgery on my poor ass a week after I was married in October, I had a massive absess suddenly appear and fill up, the size of 3 tennis balls. I had it removed and had a giant hole in my bum for weeks until it healed up with the district nurses help. A week into that healing however I got another absess in my other cheek, the same story and then most of both cheeks is missing. Absesses stopped for a while, I had three in a row, the last one was killed by antibiotics before I needed surgery and that one was on my inner thigh... The absesses came back a month or so later and on New Years Eve I was in hospital again having more ass removed. I then went on to have more of them, 8 in total but caught by antibiotics which I took for a long while after to make sure they didnt come back. Doctor thought it might be my immune system or my thyriod. Both were checked and were depressingly very normal.

Anyways, when things settled down we tried to get PG again and were successful back in Feb. I then went ectopic all over mumsnet, and lovely MLS pointed me here and these girls got me through it. I had a tube removed, so I am a lefty now hurhur. I dont know if my immune system caused it, or if it was something I did, but after whats happening now I am not so sure if my body is right somehow.

So thats my history in a nutshell. Hope that helps you put yourself into where I am. Any helpful comments are always appreciated. I really hope that if I can relax my body may get back to normal. I thought it had, but I don't really know what to think anymore. Still no period today and these hot flushes are getting stronger.

Hugs xxx

MummyLovesSadie · 03/06/2010 10:34

Hello ladies, I lurked yesterday but you were all so chatty I didn't get a chance to post anything !

PFJ sorry your body is sending you such confusing signals. Like I said the other day, there were two months when I had really strong symptoms & I thought I was pregnant but it turns out I had a cp both months. I hope your gp can give you some answers.

Cupcake you must be thoroughly fed-up right now. There must be something in the air as one of my friends is now 10 days overdue.

Shaggy thanks for sharing your story, I think you will fit in well here. You are already doing all the things to help you conceive that I would have suggested. What on earth is a softcup??? I have a feeling I'm going to regret asking that!

Moon what a tough time you are having at the moment - a big squeeze coming your way.

Louey have you found any of us on FB yet? You could always send your name to the emmsys email address & we could find you that way? Lol at your twins causing bedtime havoc, I'm sure they will calm down soon.

Vjay at your little dog, I'm surprised the poor little thing has got any teeth left.

Neeko says hi to everyone.

Got to dash as my neighbour will be here any minute to take dd out for a walk. Because of my bronchitis I'm absolved of my cleaning duties today so I'm going to sit in the hammock & read instead!

VJay · 03/06/2010 11:02

Morning

iggy thanks for all your advice, I have taken note. Doggy ate all his breakfast this morning, is very shaky on his legs but that is normal for him now, but he's not drinking.

pfj that sounds like a good plan, especially with your mums history, hopefully it's not the same for you, but worth checking out, it's what I would do

I shouldn't have had that drink with pfj last night, Ajay was up most of the night, I think it's his teeth, so I am bleary eyed and not so bushy tailed this morning

Big sleepy waves to eveyone

VJay · 03/06/2010 11:04

Oh have had 2 freinds anounce their pg's in the last 2 weeks, so am now waiting for the third...or fourth and fifth, come on ladies, BFP's all round

ThePFJ · 03/06/2010 11:46

Aww Vjay, but the drinks were yummy anyways. Hope you feel better... at least the weather is lovely again!

justshaggy · 03/06/2010 12:25

pfj My word you've had a HORRENDOUS time. I'm so sorry! What I was going to say earlier is that when I was treated for an ectopic (eventually called a PUL), I became obsessed about HCG levels and what they meant - i.e. were they high enough at those many weeks for PG to still be viable etc etc. Mine were in triple digits and I posted on MN if they were high enough and had someone come on and tell me that when she was at nearly 12 weeks, hers were 8 - not 80 - 8! And she went on to have a healthy baby. If you think that your levels need to get to 2 before they sign you off as OK and in the clear after an ectopic, then 8 is pretty damn low.

My point is these HPTs measure HCG levels ... no? And everyone is different. So I think you have to balance everything - yes you got a BFN, and yes it probably is false-hope to hope its not true so long after AF because the average person would have had a BFP by now (sorry).... BUT AF still has not arrived. You are spot-on going to GP with the flushes, but if this doubt is twisting you up then might be good to get some total clarity rather than stew for the weekend.

My honest answer if I were in your shoes is that I'd be phoning the EPU and asking for a blood test today - not for ominous reasons but because in your shoes I'd be frothing at the mouth with frustration. I would be saying "I am really worried I'm not getting a BFP and AF is not here, and I have PG symptoms and I've had an PUL before and I want a bloodtest NOW!" I am almost 100% certain my EPU would test me on those grounds, and I'd have the results that afternoon (faster than GP). Then you know for certain and you can move on.

But I am not you hun, and you must be sick to back-teeth of hospitals etc. x

MLS This is a softcup The picture does not do the size justice - one could almost serve soup in them! I read that people use them to keep the sperm exactly where it should be for a long time IYKWIM ... I'll try anything, but.....

Barbie Dubai - ouch that must be hot. Who is in Aus then or am I getting my threads mixed up?

Moon Thanks for the welcome and sorry you're having such a bad time.

bluesatinsash Shaggy was originally a reference to my unkempt shaggy locks. But you make a very good point - it does seem more appropriate in the ttc context.

Wondering how cupcake is getting on..

Me - I got my first 'high' on my CBFM this cycle and had a such a weird reaction. My stomach curled with apprehension - like I was facing a huge exam or something. Last month the highs were delayed by about 4 days so I would've thought I'd have been relieved it seems back to normal. Maybe its dread at the thought of that flying saucer softcup?

ThePFJ · 03/06/2010 12:43

Hi justshaggy,

You are right about me being sick to the teeth with going into hospitals! However if you are completely serious about a woman you know having hcg levels of 8 at 12 weeks... and having a healthy baby... is that really true..??? I find it very hard to believe though...
I'll definately keep that in mind just in case.
Wow. Part of me is very happy to hear about that. The rest can't believe it!

Thank you for that.

loueytbg · 03/06/2010 12:43

Cupcake where are you???

ThePFJ · 03/06/2010 12:45

BTW did the lady with 8 need special treatment during her pg? As in, she had care to keep the pg to term? If she did I may change my mind and call people today.

loueytbg · 03/06/2010 12:47

justshaggy xpost - you've answered my question about the instead cup. I won't ask how you get it in....

forgot to say pfj - do you know when you ovulated? Could it have happened later than normal?

justshaggy · 03/06/2010 12:55

pfj - Not a woman I know - it was a poster on MN who told me that. Honestly - I think her experience is exceptional, but it gives weight to the saying 'It's not over until AF comes'. I do believe her because, unlike you, I was VERY lucky with my PUL because my body resolved it itself (apparently 50% of them do). But I was tested every two days to make sure my hcg levels were dropping and I was told that if they stopped dropping - or started to rise again (yup, they can start going up again!!!) - I'd probably need to have surgery or injection. Even when my hcg levels dropped to 5 they wouldn't let me go because they said there was still possibility of things happening (I had to cancel Christmas with my family to stay close to hospital, and we're still chasing insurance even now). So hcg levels are a mystery to me and I'm a bit about tests. Truely: its not over until AF comes. Easy to say though if you're not the one waiting ... I'm more concerned about you twisting yourself in knots. Is it possible your flushes are severe stress? Do you chart...? If so, what are your temps doing?

ThePFJ · 03/06/2010 12:57

I think I ovulated on the 12th. TMI I know but my discharge consistancy gives it away, I get some cramping and its usually about 10 days or more after my period begins. I felt pregnant from the 16th onwards... although that is not concrete evidence for conception being on or before that day in my opinion.

ThePFJ · 03/06/2010 13:04

justshaggy - my flushes are still coming and going. I am still peeing alot and having pg symptoms. I could chart my temp, but I dont want to get even more obsessed about all this! It's a good idea though, if this continues in a few days I will.
I have given an official statement out loud to my body for it to get its act together while I was in the bathroom earlier. Sounds silly doesn't it? But I think its definately not behaving itself is it. Maybe if I discipline it by not giving it chocolate today as a punishment??
Joking aside I would love to know what kind of hcg levels a 1st response can pick up on.. as in numbers... and what percentage of women it has missed giving a bfp to... but maybe I need to stop thinking about it? I want to obsess, its fun But I need to relax at this very moment, not trawl the internet for data! I love chatting about this though. Please dont stop talking to me if you have further opinions. I haven't got anyone else but you lot to talk to about this.

justshaggy · 03/06/2010 13:05

xpost with pfj and louey ... pfj I seem to remember that she kept getting tested and there was some disbelief about her low levels, but this was months ago and that's from memory. Her main point to me at the time was to emphasise her baby was totally fine and her pg progressed normally.

louey No, it was all about the hair (his is tidier than mine). Thats a good point you make to pfj about ovulation date.

pfj As well as considering possible late ovulation, there is also the possiblity you implanted later than 10days (I think implantation can happen up until 12days....?????? not sure ) Hate the feeling I might be fostering false hope ... only way to really KNOW is by a proper test or AF. x

ThePFJ · 03/06/2010 13:05

oh and women 'I know' includes other mn'ers in my world

cupcakefairy · 03/06/2010 13:15

Hello, sorry still no baby here!
I was trying to catch up quickly before heading to hospital but didn't get a chance to post this morning.

Have been for second heart trace and everything still normal...in fact everyone keeps saying 'very happy baby there'...bless, it's just too comfy!!
Felt v tearful when a consultant told me they'd want to monitor me throughout labour but then she said after that if I wanted to I could still spend short periodss in the pool so obviously wouldn't be on monitor all the time so that was encouraging.

Then saw lovely midwife who did yet ANOTHER sweep and hooray, cervix has actually softened and is at 1cm dilated (it definitely is dilated this time, says so in my notes ) so at least something has changed.

Going in for induction tomorrow. Terrified but also excited about finally meeting our lo. I'll try to post before I go in depending on the time; and then I'll text everyone whose number I have once we have a baby! No idea how long that will be, could be a couple of days but I'm praying not and the gel will take effect without needing drips or whatever...

moon hello I'm so sorry for all the crap life is throwing at you right now wish there was something I could say to make you feel better but remember you can rant all you like on here!

MLS hope you enjoyed dd-free morning and the bronchitis clears up soon

justshaggy very sane, logical advice there to pfj- I'm totally loving having more ttc talk on the thread again Don't think anyone here is in Aus btw- just monkey in Belgium and our Dubai barbie

sabs you're an absolute star sending me those Indian remedies maybe they're what have made my cervix a bit more favourable!

iggy now I've gone so late our los will only be around 6 weeks apart (presuming you don't go over; and I really hope you don't it's torture!)

Lol, I don't know when mermaid comes back from hols but she'll prob fall off her chair to find I STILL haven't had a baby ..

OP posts:
ThePFJ · 03/06/2010 13:19

Good Luck Cupcake! Glad you have good news.

justshaggy · 03/06/2010 13:26

Cupcake Woo-hoo!! Fab news that LO is still happy and comfy Good luck for tomorrow. x

PFJ Am I doing my sums correctly? You ovulated on 12 May, implantation at ~10days = 22 May, and at 12days = 24 May. Does that mean you're 8-10 days beyond when AF should have come for you? (I ovulated on the 21st May and I'm now on day 10 of my cycle). Hun, if so - won't you consider phoning the EPU and running it past them and see what they say?

MummyLovesSadie · 03/06/2010 13:29

PFJ this is a good website for feeding your peeing on a stick obsessions!

Shaggy aaaaaah so its like a Mooncup then. May I suggest this for getting the sperm to where it matters?

Louey I guess our resident Emmsys web-host Gracie hasn't yet had a chance to check the email you sent as I cant see your details on the list yet.

MummyLovesSadie · 03/06/2010 13:32

Hello Cupcake so glad to hear you sounding a bit more chipper. If you have already started to dilate it is a very very good sign. Maybe tonight....

ThePFJ · 03/06/2010 13:40

I dont think the EPU will see me unless I am in pain, and the doc would refer me to them today if I wanted to, but I cant face running about to hospitals unless I KNOW I am ill or there is a baby in danger. Since if I am pg... remote chance, yes they could confirm it for me, but they wouldnt be able to help or do anything other than that. If I go running about to the hospital today and they say I am not pg I will be really upset. I don't want to go unless I have to.

But if next week all this is still going on then I WILL see the doctor straight away.

Thanks MLS I am going to go look now

ThePFJ · 03/06/2010 13:54

Ok so according to that website a 1 st response needs 25 hcg to go positive and 2 weeks after conception/ovulation you levels are at 3 - 426... so I guess its still possible I am pg....
IF we take it that conception was indeed 12 days after I ovulated?? So testing again next week might be an option I suppose... ?? Eecky thump I dont know!
