Actually now I feel guilty using up the last post of the thread - hope this will do as a continuation

OP posts:
tetleytea · 09/01/2010 15:57

Crikey, i can't even spell swear words! what hope is there? S*t.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 09/01/2010 16:22

Hi Tetley. Sorry AF got you

Re the luteal phase, not sure if it's constant - mine never really is. What I do know is that it's "supposed" to be at least 10 days long. Might google it, interesting question.

Hope you're hunkered down for more rotten weather. I guess it must be getting pretty annoying now.

gumblossom · 09/01/2010 22:37

Teltley, I'm blowing a big raspberry to AF!
I have read many times that the luteal phase should be constant and not varying by much more than a day, and that it is the ovulation day that varies. However, when I was religiously charting for over a year mine did vary from 11 to 15 days(with an average of 12.8!) according to Fertility Friend. But charting isn't an exact science, so maybe the O day was out. I did take vitex for a couple of months when my cycle seemed longer than usual and that seemed to sort things out.

ILGH we have something called "iview" here, but we mostly record from tv onto the harddrive and watch later.

DS is teething again, so operation wean is proving to be a BIG challenge at the mo.

Frosticle · 10/01/2010 13:08

Tetley Sorry about AF. I have read that the luteal phase is constant. Mine isn't though. That said, my cycle is a bit all over the place after having Mirena IUS removed in September. I thought I would be clever and try to sort out my short luteal phase with Agnus Castus which just completely screwed the whole cycle up!! Maybe if you haven't been taking drugs/hormones/herbal remedies, the luteal phase is pretty constant?

Rowing, thanks, I'm very well. I have been enjoying the snow. Took my DD to see Cinderella Panto yesterday and to ice-skate lesson at Somerset House ice-rink this morning. All great fun!! Funny month cycle-wise - not convinced I ovulated but lost the plot a bit over Xmas so who knows! AF is now 2 days late but that could just be because I didn't ovulate or because my cycle still hasn't settled down or maybe, just maybe because ..... I haven't tested yet - I think I am savouring the possibility and don't want to be disappointed!!

randomimposter · 10/01/2010 17:17

hello
have lurked for ages, but felt as I was on the MC thread and enjoyed the casual more anonymous safety of the buses I shouldn't spread myself too thin.... (have very little of interest to say as it is ).

But wanted to say hi as maybe a "oooo good there's another one" might comfort readers as I have been comforted by success stories of 40+.

Got pg at 39 out of the blue with DS, now 19 months. Trouble free pregnancy, all fine. He's perfect (I know we all say that!). Tried again when he turned 1, got pg 1st month, but had a MMC at my 13 week scan at end August. Had an ERPC and decided to wait for one cycle to TTC again. Got a bit low as suddenly became aware about the stats of my age.... and my cycles were all over the place, long then 2 short ones. Anyway wanted to post that I got a BFP today!

Of course very wary as so early and aware of all the things that can go wrong, but wanted to share in case it gives heart to others who have got low that their age makes it impossible. It's not .

Cheers to you all - wishing everyone a VERY happy new year x

ILoveGregoryHouse · 10/01/2010 18:40

Congratulations and lots of sticky vibes to you. Think you are the same jollster who was so kind to me when I posted about my emc. If so, thank you.

tetleytea · 11/01/2010 15:04

jollster that's brilliant news, for you and all us 40+'s Lots of sticky vibes to you and all the best.

ILGH and gumblossom and frosticle thanks for that on the luteal phase - definitely another ttc myth to be binned, i'd say!

Hope you're all having better luck getting back to the grind than i am. Have huge deadlines looming, am working from home and wearing a track between the computer and the fridge. Highlight of my morning was remembering about a Boots carrot cake i'd left in the fridge (highly recommended). Since it's not in my nature to ever forget i have cake around, i was pathetically chuffed.

Right, back to deadlines. Happy january monday to you all

hippychick66 · 11/01/2010 16:53

Congrats to our newbie Jollster.

Not much to report here. As far as I'm aware I'm 7 wks preg today but waiting for blood results to confirm. Still stupidly keep expecting someone important to tell me I'm not really preg.

Having said all that I'm having all the right symptoms - nausea and lots of wind sorry TMI! Heavy boobs and of course no AF.

Fed up with being cold - want spring to arrive, wouldn't it be amazing to just wear a t-shirt outdoors!! Not you of course Gum - you're boiling.

I know I should be off making new pals on the pregnancy threads but I like you guys so much. Jollster are you on any threads within pregnancy yet?

Rowing Still awaiting the info re: Czech Republic. I am so nosey - forgive me if you don't want to go in to it.

gumblossom · 11/01/2010 23:26

Hi girls! Congratulations Jollster - lovely news.
Hippy - you're 7 weeks already!! WooHoo - so excited for you. I remember my DS's early pregnancy - feeling exactly as you do.I carried pads and tampons whereever I went expecting that it would all be a figment of my imagination...he certainly isn't!He's giving me a run for my money. So much for operation wean! I am changing it to "operation hang in there,be patient and fertility will return eventually" because he is cutting eye teeth and really doesn't cope with teething.Needs his Boozey.

Hope you are all rugged-up.I saw that photograph of Britain all covered in snow - amazing! Over here it's all record high temperatures and "catastrophic" fire warnings. It's pretty good where I live as we a very south, but almost all of the rest of Australia is experiencing a very hot summer.Poor things - it can actually be awful.

I'm off to acupuncture today. I'm actually a little apprehensive after last time when I got those electric type shocks in my feet.It only hurt for a second but it really hurt!I suppose it's good if it is unplugging a "blockage".Anything to have this body baby ready!

Frosticle · 11/01/2010 23:28

Congrats and good luck to you Jollster - great news and a very encouraging way to start the new year!

hopeful45 · 12/01/2010 07:08

Hi Ladies

I'd like to join in and wondering if I can get a recap of who's on here and their history (haven't seen it in the thread for awhile). I'm TTC at 45 (will be 46 in March). I have 3 children (had the last one at just under 42). I was PG in January last year (naturally) but m/c at about 6 weeks. I am slated to try IVF (own eggs) at the end of February (if I stimulate successfully). Looking for some encouragement and positive stories from people who've been on this thread for awhile. Thanks!

randomimposter · 12/01/2010 08:14

thanks everyone for the good wishes...

hippy have no plans to join any anti-n thread, certainly not at least until I'm past scan/nuchal folds etc. I'm planning a Doctor Who style flash through the next 9ish weeks... wish me luck with that! . Every time I go to the loo I suspect some red action... lord knows what I'll be like when I go for my first scan...! Although having said all that, I also feel a sense of calm... can't worry about it, what'll be will be. You're nearly 3 weeks ahead of me, so I'll follow in your wake! Keep us posted x.

Good luck hopeful, a close friend has recently had successful IVF but with donor eggs (I don't know exactly how old she is, she's quite coy!, but probably same as you or a bit older). I know very little about the process so can't help or advise. But know there'll be an expert along shortly...

Hope everyone else is well and doing ok.

hippychick66 · 12/01/2010 20:19

Jollster I tentatively put my toe in the water on the pregnancy section and asked about an over 40's thread.

Got a fab response and it's really taken off - loads of people responded and they seem like a nice bunch. Join us when you're ready.

I know what you mean, I stopped carrying lil-lets around with me the other day but only cos i thought - "If I bleed now it will be serious and I'll need pads!" (how negative is that?) It's so hard not to keep knicker checking.

Got my blood test results back today and the lady asked if i definitely wanted the result on the phone. I thought - OMG - its all been a mistake. Then she said it was a confirmed preg 6 - 7 weeks (that was a week ago) so defo at least 7 weeks now.

I will keep lurking on this thread cos i want to see how you are all doing. If you get anymore BFP's come and find me on the other thread pleeeaaaasse.

Love to all - you're fab.

gumblossom · 12/01/2010 23:34

We'll miss you Hippy.I just read the thread and it looks like you are in good company - I can't wait to join you, hope it'll be soon.
Did we all know that Rainbowdays is 5 weeks pregnant???Read it on Hippy's new thread. It's great news. Hopefully we'll all be over there before we know it.

Try as I might I just can't seem to shake this desire for another baby.Sometimes I think it is just futile, but I still feel like I am meant to go for it. My DH is coming up for his 50th this year and I think he'd easily give it a miss. He has found older fatherhood pretty tiring and hard.I'm trying to have the "if it's meant to happen it will" attitude, but I feel impatient too...

Acupuncture was lovely yesterday and I felt very relaxed all day afterwards, it is so worthwhile. She has changed my herbs to help with excess heat, last time we were treating Yang(making me warmer) this time it is yin!I hope it'll pay off, and in the meantime I think the herbs do help me feel quite good.

Tetley, do you always work from home? What do you do?
Kiwi,ILGH,Summersky,Vons,Frosty,GPS,Rowing:how are you all? What's news?

Off to the library with my youngest two today, then to see their feral cousins. Good God those boys are terrifyingly out of control(aged 2 and 3)!!

gumblossom · 12/01/2010 23:35

P.S. Sorry if I forgot anyone...I'd like to know how all of you are...

ILoveGregoryHouse · 13/01/2010 06:37

Hippychick bye bye hope to see you on the new thread soon, along with other graduates. I will drop in and spy/lurk to see how you're doing in the meantime. Don't forget to come and see us for a nice cup of tea sometimes.

nappyaddict · 13/01/2010 22:36

Not sure if anyone is even this old on here but just wanted to give you up. There is a mum at toddler group who has just given birth at the age of 48 (she conceived naturally at 47) I was very shocked at how old she was when I met her cos she doesn't like that old but she told me about a woman from The Guardian who is the same age as her and going to have a baby soon too. If you haven't read her blog it is on here

JemimaPuddleduck07 · 13/01/2010 23:36

Hello. Have popped in to say hello before but had put TTC on hold again so only been lurking! DD's eczema has been so bad that she still wakes pretty much every night so I wasn't sure if I could cope with more sleepless nights. But my sister's just announced she's pregnant and that really made me realise how much I would like another child. So I'm going to join you lovely ladies on the TTC bus... (Am 43 this year and have a 10 and a 2 yr old)

gumblossom · 13/01/2010 23:58

Hi Jemima- welcome! I'm 43 too.Perhaps we can be belly-buddies!? How long did it take to conceive your 2 year old? My DS is 16 months, and it took us 7 months to conceive, but it was after a vasectomy reversal, so that may have made it harder. Right now I am waiting to be fertile again as I'm still BF my DS. Incidentally my DS has eczema too - any tips? At the moment I am trying to control it with hemp lotion which seems to calm it down really well(I don't want to use prescription cream as I used it when I was growing up and don't like the effects I have found natural solutions to work quite well on me).
But I have to be vigilant. If his skin gets dry it gets bad. I read that omega 3 oil helps, so am trying to take loads of fish oil hoping it will get to him through my milk.Don't know how else to get it into him as he wouldn't take a chewable at this stage.

Sorry folks, I know this is a ttc forum...

I have been having some funny twinges in my boobs the last couple of days - wondering if maybe I'm gearing up to O. But opk's still not positive. Also did a first response preg test, just in case - but of course bfn!!
I hope it means something...getting bored with nothing happening.

Rowing, when does your ivf start?Do you have to start by taking birth control pills?

Nappyaddict, thanks for the info on the 48 yr old - gosh that's amazing- it gives me hope, though I'd really like it to happen before then!

Frosticle · 14/01/2010 00:41

hippy I also went to check out your new thread. They all seem very friendly and I think you'll have a great time with that bunch! Can't remember who it was on that thread but someone commented that everyone is too quick to blame age for feeling tired etc during pregnancy. I think she's right. I had my DD when I was 40 and yes, I was tired but when I spoke to the others (all younger and some much younger) in my NTC class, they all felt tired too - and some more so than me!

Anyway, I'm very much looking forward to us all joining you. Wouldn't that be fun!

Despite my 45th birthday looming (oooh, looks much worse when I see it written down!) and AF arriving 3 days ago, I'm feeling more optimistic about the whole TTC thing than I have since I had the Mirena IUS removed in September. My cycle finally seems to have settled down the luteal phase has at last lengthened out and is now 11-12 days. Hoorah!

I also feel really encouraged that for the first time probably since I having my DD, my period is as it always used to be - i.e. cramping for the first couple of days but light-ish.

I think reflexology has been a major help. Anyway, fingers crossed for all of us this month!

Hi all, just popped on to say I've put photos of boys on my profile.
