Hey all...

Hope this thread name is okay...just moved the Gin Palace around the corner before we ran out of space!

See you soon. The bar's open!

OP posts:
skihorse · 24/07/2009 11:52

gin Are you also able to furnish us with his name before one of us puts our size 9s in it and takes the piss?

I also have a fear of little boy's willies, although as I keep telling OH I shall say "oooh, just like daddy's - but bigger".

He wants a boy, I want a girl. Maybe we should have twins? How are you on that front cheggers - are you likely to get multiples?

idealcamel · 24/07/2009 11:57

I'd love a boy - if only to attempt to turn him gay so that he always loves his mum the most (joke). Seriously, it fascinates me that my body could produce a small creature whose experience of life will be totally different to my own. Plus, y'know, it's a patriarchy, so he'll have it way easier than a girl would.

Am keeping fingers crossed that I don't have to have huge family rows about baby presents & gender. It squicks me out that people always send celebratory "it's a boy" or "it's a girl" cards - what's wrong with "it's a baby" ffs?

Re: bodies. I've always loathed mine (see earlier comment about the patriarchy) so frankly I don't give a shit what happens to it during pregnancy, so long as it stays relatively healthy.

Hmmm. I think my Women's Studies MA is showing.

ginhag · 24/07/2009 12:00

Ok poked my head back round the door..am well mardy today.

Thanks laurie he is!

ski don't think anyone will as I don't think it's a name that will come up...he's called mani.and I will inflict fucking extreme virtual violence on anyone that takes the piss.as I mentioned am rambling thru mardyville at the mo.

Aussieng · 24/07/2009 12:01

Well I want one of each. Boy first then girl but I know that I will start to obsess about having a girl and run this risk of having 6 unwanted boys between the first and getting my girl

Need to have a boy anyway cos need to provide son and heir....

Baby names no problem - boy #1 will be XY the ivth. I know, I know don't shoot me but I agreed to it and I get full choice of the girl's names in return. Luckily TOF (?) abbreviates his name and the nipper will have the full version which is more modern.

Hey it worked for Lorelie Gilmore OK!

And yes, I'm aware this all sounds ridiculous while body is still refusing to get up diffed with the first

ginhag · 24/07/2009 12:04

Oo I heart camel

ps for an analysis on the pretentious stakes..

Mani means soul in Persian, jewel in Hindu and equal in aborigine!!!

Also bass player of stone roses (pleases dp) and also makes the Scottish side of my family happy as they call him 'the wee manny'

MorrisZapp · 24/07/2009 12:17

I'm so naive about motherhood it's a joke. Until I came on MN the only thing I was scared of was just being a normal mum - you know, those women in berghaus jackets you see pushing buggies around.

I look at them and I just think 'how can you be arsed? Don't you just want to walk freely, unemcumbered by baby paraphenalia?'

Also have pathetic, materialistic fears about not getting to spend all my wages on myself anymore, indeed not gettig any wages at all.

I don't get how people seem to laid back about it all, coming back for a second, third and even fourth child. They must have boundless resources of energy. I want to lie down in a darkened room just thinking about it.

But on the other hand, DP is very gorgeous and I won't rest until I've seen him cradle our newborn on his arm in the style of that poster we all had in the 80's.

Am going to a wedding party later tonite - can't blimmin wait for a lovely cold beer.

Scorpette · 24/07/2009 12:17

idealcamel SNAP! on the MA women's Studies There's not many of us about so hail, Sister! Although I don't agree with having a boy cos society will be easier for them - another big reason I want a little girl is because I think we need more girls brought up without patriarchal expectations of behaviour and self and so on, so things can change more rapidly, etc.

gin Mani is a lovely name. And I've seen your profile and he is adorable. We all know we're being daft about the boy baby thing, don't worry I certainly don't think boys are inferior - I just worry about how good a mum I would be to a boy. I'd probably gayenise a son, anyway - which would suit me fine too, camel

idealcamel · 24/07/2009 12:18

Bless you, ginhag. Typing ginhag, by the way, just made me get an ENORMO craving for a gin fizz. Anyone else? Lunchtime cocktail of choice?

Mani = super cute and not pretentious. Won't date him, either, as Stone Roses are no longer The Biggest Band in the World - if they ever were.

My BFF has three tests for a name: does it work with "can X come out to play" "I love you, X" and "is X ready for promotion"? Mani definitely passes.

MorrisZapp · 24/07/2009 12:19

Oh I heart camel too.

But for actual lezzie action it has to be Geena Davis in Thelma and Louise for me.

Awesome.

MorrisZapp · 24/07/2009 12:21

ACTUALLY texting DP to tell him about the Baby Named Mani.

It will encourage his swimmers to think that he too could have a baby to name after his gee-tar heroes.

idealcamel · 24/07/2009 12:23

Morris Having read far too much romantic fiction (job, honest), I have been conditioned to think that four children is not enough. Seriously, Nora Roberts's families seem to start at four. Probably why I'm panicking at my baby-free state - but how will I squeeze out the requisite number for happy family status? Must remember that romantic fiction is FICTION.

Scorpy (if I may?) My Women's Studies is much more in principle than in practice - see above re: romantic fiction. I am really good at blaming the patriarchy, though, and can do so for hours. You're very right that we need more girls brought up to play with meccano and not wear pink; but we also need a few more boys who don't have an automatic sense of entitlement!

ginhag · 24/07/2009 12:32

Cheers lushes (and scorpette)

am def a bit over-sensitive at the mo.hey, maybe I'm pregnant (cue usual symptom pondering..)

the name really suits him too.I like your dp's way of assessing names camel.we used the 'has to work for kid and adult' but his is a more thorough version.

Morris oh yes, good plan (hope Slash not one of his heroes tho..)

thing I've learnt today.a toddler playing a kazoo produces a really surprising amount of drool

ginhag · 24/07/2009 12:37

Please bear with my flibbertigibbit writing style.am multitasking as am currently playing the role of 'mountain road' and also playing 'row your boat' on a kazoo which makes adult conversation tricky.

skihorse · 24/07/2009 12:41

Oooh much respect to camel and Scorpette. When we win the lottery I'm going back to uni, first to do fitness and nutrition - then women's studies. Sistahs. I must admit I care less about the aesthetics of my body these days - I just want it to be healthy. Bizarrely this came about when I met OH as I had 89 metal staples across my abdoment the first time he saw me - and I'd had it done so men wouldn't be repulsed... and there I was, butt-naked for 89 clamps - and he loves me anyway.

Dare I say it? I'd like as many children as I can manage before I'm properly barren.

gin I love that name, no piss-taking here. UNless his middle name is Cuthbert of course.

longwee · 24/07/2009 12:45

Hi ginhag - I too, self appointed judge of name pretention - love the name

I shouldn't actually be here - I'm in the meeting from hell but illicitly using t'web while pretending to be taking notes...

SkaterGrrrrl · 24/07/2009 12:50

. Welcome Morris, loving the safari suit.

I am also a Ms (PLUS I subscribe to The F-Word).

"NEVER EVER tell a soul in RL"

Amen sister! I just tell everyone we will start trying soon. Cant bear the thought of everyone checking out my tummy or what I'm drinking every time I see my mates.

Wildfig and idealcamel I am gagging for a dog but SkaterBoy wont let me while we both work full time. He is such a grown up!

"What are the main things you're all scared about re babies?"

Think Ive said this before, but here goes again: like Scorpette & her feller, SKaterBoy and I are so disgustingly loved up - I'm terrified we will lose our closeness and never quite get it back.

RunLyra, you are here because it is your duty to breed or the DailyHate will come and ring your doorbell wearing white hoods and burning crosses and torches.

NeedChoos · 24/07/2009 12:56

Ta Skater - I'm with you on the close-ness thing...well not WITH you but def in agreement. Me and Mr Choo are revolting togther and I quite like it. Plus I'm an only child so everything is oviously about me and I LOVE the fact I have all of Mr Choos attention.

NeedChoos · 24/07/2009 13:03

How did you know Tanqueray is my fave? spooky!

laurielou · 24/07/2009 13:32

Well, I just popped home & found a letter from the hospital re my referral for barreness from GP.

The letter says "we will contact you again when we are able to arrange for you to attend the clinic.......Appointments are prioritised so that those patients who are judged urgent are seen soonest..............if your addess telephone number or dentist changes let us know"

WTF??? I'm 37, came off the pill 2 years ago - at what point does it become urgent? And dentist? Are they in the wrong hole, or am I?

Incidentally, it does mention gynae otherwise I'd think they had the wrong person.

And they didn't even have the courtesy to sign it.

I'M FUCKING TAMPING!!!!

Scorpette · 24/07/2009 13:34

laurie - GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Am off to gym now but will be fuming for you!

Are they worried you have vagina dentata by any chance?

MorrisZapp · 24/07/2009 13:40

lol at Daily Hate. I saw today's issue in the shop, headline is 'Now Yobs Get Spa Treatment Instead of Jail'

I love that stuff. It makes my day!

Grrrr indeed, laurie. Hope you get an appt soon.

SkaterGrrrrl · 24/07/2009 13:49

"How did you know Tanqueray is my fave? spooky!"

I figured if you like Choos you have expensive tastes

And now for your viewing pleasure, Daily Hate headline generator.

idealcamel · 24/07/2009 13:58

Tanqueray 10's ok for martinis, I guess. But Hendricks all the way for proper, English, nostalgic summertime drinks which use cucumber as a garnish.

Mmm. I do love me some gin.

Skater - F-Word is good. Have you checked out some of the American feminist blogs - brilliant for a bit of righteous anger. www.feministing.com/ and www.feministe.us/blog/

NeedChoos · 24/07/2009 14:00

Skater - you are so right!! Love a bit of the Number 10 but spesh occasions only!

Love it esp
HAS TEENAGE SEX INFECTED BRITISH SOVEREIGNTY WITH AIDS?

IS THE LOONY LEFT TURNING BRITAIN'S SWANS GAY?

Marvelous!! Great Friday afternoon entertainment!

Is everybody dressed to day? I quite like the Dressingown dresscode - fag ash optional of course Extreme

idealcamel · 24/07/2009 14:04

laurie Just saw your news. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. So fucking annoying - but maybe is a standard letter that they send out and doesn't mean that you're not urgent? You might want to check with your GP, though? Or your dentist, if Scorpette's suggestion is correct
