Hi, i'm new to mumsnet. I don't have children - yet, I am ttc via a fertility clinic. Going to be having IUI plus medication to boost fertility etc. Would be glad to hear from others using clinics/IUI etc as it's all a bit of a minefield.
Thanks !

bumping for you so you don't get disheartened!

Your name is very similar to a poster we already have, lou33 - you might get some comments on that (apart from this one of course! )

Welcome to the madhouse, as they say - and I hope you get lots of support on the conception threads and other chat areas.

sgibbo · 31/03/2009 10:05

Hi Lots33 i'm relatively new to mumsnet also and am having fertility treatment, what medication have they given you?

I have clomid, FSH injections and Ovitrelle to help boost my fertility and am on my 2nd cycle of this.

lots33 · 03/04/2009 07:07

None yet. I am going to the clinic next week for a procedure called hycosy and then the first attempt will be the cycle following that. I know that they will be using medication but haven't got my head around what yet.
Did you have IUI, is it painful?

Thanks for your posts. And good luck with your cycle, keep me posted.

Hi Lots33

I'm almost a duplicate of sgibbo - ttc#1 and this is my second cycle of fertility meds (same as sgibbo) and IUI. I'm currently waiting out my two weeks - I should test on Easter! v excited about the possibilities.

IUI is not painful for me, worst might be one big cramping sensation, but that's about it. Done in about 5 minutes then they let you rest for another few, then on your way.

Welcome to mumsnet - lots of wisdom around here. Best of luck.

sgibbo · 03/04/2009 09:29

Hi Lots33, i had something similar to a Hycosy called a hysterosalpingogram. I thik they check for the same thing - whether tubes are blocked or not. I found that i had really bad cramp and period pain for a few hours afterwards but pain killers helped.

Hi Islegrin, how long have you been TTC? I think we must have the same cycle because i'm due to test Easter weekend to!!!!

islegrin · 03/04/2009 10:32

I had an HSG last year - confirmed left side completely blocked.

sgibbo - I'm excited but trying to keep myself grounded until Easter. How long have you been ttc?

We've been trying on and off for 4 years, but after an ectopic our chances of ttc got cut way down. So here we are

sgibbo · 03/04/2009 10:45

Idlegrin we have also been trying for almost four years!

My HSG showed that my tubes were fine and no PCOs no problems anywhere, never had a BFP ever not even a faint one.

We have decided to have 2 months off meds if it doesn't work this time and then in June if still not successful try with Clomid, FSH and Ovitrelle for a few more cycles

sgibbo · 03/04/2009 10:46

Sorry meant to be Islegrin

islegrin · 03/04/2009 18:56

I have heard that sometimes women on Clomid get pg just after stopping - so taking some time off might just do the trick. Hopefully, this time will be BFP and you won't even have to go there!

So far we haven't been too gutted by the negatives, and since IUI is so much less than IVF - we're thinking to do a few more rounds, but we stay flexible.

Lots33 what's the latest?

islegrin · 04/04/2009 22:14

bump

makingafamily · 06/04/2009 10:13

Hi all

Lots Welcome to MN. I am also TTC through a Fertility clinic and hoping to have my first IUI this month. I had the HSG back in Jan and it was uncomfortable but bearable

sgibbo and isle I'm doing a natural cycle to start with but then am planning on moving over to medicated. How are you both getting on? Fingers crossed for Easter Weekend BFP's

sgibbo · 06/04/2009 11:57

Hi Makingafamily the meds are ok and are working it's just the rest of it thats not! lol my HSG gave me cramps after but apart from that it wasn't too bad. Do you know what meds they are going to give you?

I'm trying to find things to occupy my mind at the moment, trying not to symptom spot but the closer it gets to the weekend the harder it becomes!

Isle not sure about you but finding it hard not to test early?

islegrin · 06/04/2009 19:13

Making and Sgibbo I'm doing well - no symptoms (but I'm on the ever-vigilant lookout!) so I've pretty well conviced I'm not pg, but I'm still full of hope!

I hesitate to say the HSG was very painful for me, but it wasn't at first when they warned me it was going to be "uncomfortable" the doc even remarked "you are handling this very well" (they had to use one of those clips on my cervix) then when the last bit of dye went in, I nearly came off the table. Sorry if that scares anyone, but I'd much rather them say "this is going to hurt - but it will only last 20 seconds" than to downplay the pain. From what I hear my experience is not typical.

I'm thinking about an implanting embryo everyday! Already wondering if I could test just a little early. One week to go!

sgibbo · 07/04/2009 10:22

Morning Islegrin I did a sneeky test last night when i gothome from work it was BFN but i expected it so not too disappointed. Stil got to wait for Saturday for the proper result

Making how are you getting on?

islegrin · 07/04/2009 12:28

SGIBBO!!! I did the same thing! HA! I was talking to DH about when to test, Sat, Sunday, Fri??? and he said - why don't you do it now? and I rationally said - oh well it's too early, etc. Then I asked him how curious he was (on a scale of 1-10) and he said 11! (you have to understand he's very stoic on the outside, so I have to ask) Well I said it would be a waste of a test - he said - I know where you can get more tests! so I did... and same as you: BFN. But my hope dies hard, I'll still test again, but only have ONE left in the house.

You really do make me smile - thanks for sharing that juicy tidbit!

sgibbo · 07/04/2009 13:27

Islegrin I didn't tell DH that i tested he'd get disappointed already! I don't have any more in the house (luckily!) and my friend is keeping an eye on me so that i don't buy any more - she's making wait!!!

It's nice to have someone in almost exactly the same situation who understands - I think your keeping me sane at the moment!

islegrin · 07/04/2009 18:40

Agreed - I'm amazed at how similar out situations are and chatting here has saved DH fom an overload of my excitement.

I'm not sure why so many people are against testing - what's the worst that can happen? The test is a BFN and we get disappointed??? or is it really the money they are worried about?

After 4 years of trying and testing, I'm used to the BFN. Testing just gives me something to do, since I can't monitor it any other way - except ss which is not an exact science but if you want to wait, I'll support that.

Any symptom spotting?

sgibbo · 07/04/2009 19:19

I'm all for testing! I was thinking about getting some cheap ones, i've read on other links that the ones in the pound shop are acurate so was thinking of getting some of them!

symptom spotting all the time! lol according to my symptoms i must be having triplets!!! lol

I prefer knowing either way so that i avoid disappointment sooner and can have a glass bottle of wine!

lots33 · 07/04/2009 20:31

Thanks for all your messages. And good luck to both of islegrin and sgibbo, keeping everything crossed - let us all know!

Making a family (great name!) you are two months ahead of me I am very excited for all of you.

I am due to have the hycosy on thursday....but bizarely my period is not stopping (this is unheard of!) on day 10 of my cycle at the moment! So unless it stops by thursday I won't be able to have it..fingers crossed cos I am desparate to move on with this.

By the way, is there a dictionary for all of the abbreviations everyone uses?

islegrin · 08/04/2009 04:20

10 day cycle - wow, hope AF gives you a break so you can get on with your hycosy please keep us posted.

I bought 5 tests today, so I'm set for this month and next.

islegrin · 08/04/2009 18:07

Another BFN - I think I'm starting to believe it.

sgibbo · 08/04/2009 22:16

Hi Islegrin, where did you get your tests from? i'll get some tomorrow and we can console each other tomorrow! I'm still thinking it's too early for the levels to give a BFP and am being very optomisitc for both of us xxxx

islegrin · 09/04/2009 05:34

Ahem- um, Sgibbo I guess it's time to let you in on my secret... I live in Hawaii. So where I bought the tests probably won't help you.

I'm going to test again on Friday morning, just in case - and I'm very optimistic for you! I went and looked at the pregnancy forum for December babies... and I can't wait to join them (or any other month)!

sgibbo · 09/04/2009 10:25

OMG - Hawaii i'm stuck in the UK know where i'd rather be!!!!lol I did wonder the other day why your post was at 4:20am now i know it's because of the time difference!

I'm going to try and hold out until Saturday if AF hasn't shown her ugly face! xxxx Let me now how you get on on Friday morning

sgibbo · 09/04/2009 10:27

Lots33 are you able to have your HSG today? if so good luck
