Hi, i'm new to mumsnet. I don't have children - yet, I am ttc via a fertility clinic. Going to be having IUI plus medication to boost fertility etc. Would be glad to hear from others using clinics/IUI etc as it's all a bit of a minefield.
Thanks !

Had a scan on Sunday - looks like we're going to let go the bigger folls 3 or 4 of them (17-19mm) to allow the little ones to mature (14 of them between 10-14mm). That means EC probably pushed until Friday and ET on Monday. Still good news, we've been very lucky so far - just hope that holds out.

I can't help but feel that we'll still get a BFN at the end - but it is our best chance yet, so I'm cautiously hopeful.

Next scan on Tuesday!

islegrin · 09/09/2009 07:40

Had last scan today - trigger shot tomorrow, still don't know what time exactly. Guess that means I have to pack a cool pack and take the HCG with me? How is that going to work? Oh well - I'm sure I'll figure out something. Follicles still look good most are at 19-20mm and there are fully 14-16 of them. Wow!

Still a long way to go --- but we are on our way. Friday is now definite EC and Monday for ET. I'm taking off Tues and Wednesday for work - we've been very busy so it's strange to have to make time for this, but I'm doing it!

How is the tww going? Any symptom spotting yet? Or are you keeping busy with other things?

xx

sgibbo · 11/09/2009 23:39

WOW, things seem to be moving along now for you, 14 - 16 of them at 19-20mm is fantastic news. I can't wait for your BFP news!!!

tww seems to be dragging, symptom spotting started before tww even started!!!! lol! I've been really busy work and at home.

Finally managed to speak to FC this week and have a perscription for next cycle they are not starting injections until October so this is going to be our last try without meds....fingers crossed

How did it go today???? bet you can't wait till monday????

xxx

islegrin · 12/09/2009 02:47

Went well today - tender now, but they got 27 eggs! I can't believe it, some of those must be immature, surely... but tomorrow we hear how many fertilized! Can you believe that? We'll know in 24 hours, then make a plan for ET on monday --- then the dreaded tww! How will I ever go from this much excitement to waiting waiting waiting. Oh, well it must be done.

Good to hear you are busy, but not TOO busy to symptom spot! I hope you get your BFP before you even go to the last round with no meds!

Let me know as soon as you find out - either way.

xx

islegrin · 12/09/2009 20:50

I guess yesterday's unexpected news was tempered by today's reality. Before yesterday we were expecting 12-16 mature eggs, yesterday included immature eggs - so the total that actually fertilized by today is 12! Which is wonderful, I just hope that at least 4 survive until Monday's transfer so we may have a couple to freeze.

Lots of hurdles to go, but we'll start the tww on Monday! Still symptom spotting on your end???

xx

sgibbo · 14/09/2009 16:38

OMG! How fantastic is that, can't wait to hear about your results from today???? I can't believe how close you finally are...you must be soo excited????

Symptom spotting like crazy and crazy i must be i'm sure i am imagining a lot of them! should be expecting AF any day now....

xxxxxx

islegrin · 15/09/2009 01:46

well ET went very smoothly - we transferred back in two great quality 8 cell embryos!!! And the biggest news of all is that we had another 6-7 to freeze! I can't believe that! I always knew the odds of that happening were really stacked against us. I personally think it really helps that the lab is in my doc's office, and they do all the procedures right there instead of in a hospital. The whole staff is really great and so far we've had excellent results.

Now must lie in bed, and wait for implantation in the next 3 days! We take a blood test for pg on Sept 25!!!

How close are you to testing? What are your symptoms, it would just be awesome if we both fell pg so close together, I'm still hoping!

xx

sgibbo · 17/09/2009 20:02

Hey, that's fantastic news, does this mean there is the potential for twins????? 6-7 to freeze OMG you couldn't ask for more!!!! The personal touch is always much better it makes you feel more comfortable with the whole situation

I hope you have been keeping your feet up! and i hope DH has been doing everything for you....

Can't wait to hear of news on the 25th

I've tested a few times now because i am over my tww but they have all come back BFN. No sign of AF yet so just have to keep waiting. i'd rather this one hurried up so that i can start my meds again in October!

Keeping absolutely everything crossed for you xxxx

islegrin · 18/09/2009 23:36

No signs of AF is great - I'll keep clinging on to hope for you!!!

Yep, chance for singleton or TWINS!!! If it's a postive pg test, my doc is running about an 80% rate of twins, so I'm very hopefull, almost needlessly so.

I'm working through this TWW - today is day 8 and there is ONE MORE WEEK to go. I'm going a bit bonkers, but will make it. Especially with the humor from my husband. He dubbed our embies (did I tell you there is a pic in my profile?) "Bert & Ernie" because of the patch of "hair" on the one! ha ha -

I also found out that they fertilized 6 eggs via ICSI and the rest without. They never even discussed that possibility with us, but it does let us know that both ways worked at the same rate. I was a bit taken aback at first, but I think it all turned out well in the end and would have given us the same or better results than if they hadn't done it.

Here's hoping to two BFP very soon for both of us!!! xx

sgibbo · 22/09/2009 19:26

AF got me on Friday so BFN for definite! i'm still positive about the whole situation and know sooner or later it will be my turn, i think i helps knowing that if we don't have BFP by the new year that we will be trying IVF. I also think it helps knowing that next time round i can go back on the meds! lol it's kinda strange i've almost missed them!!!!

So how are things going with you? only a few more days before you can test????

Do you feel any different???? xxx

islegrin · 24/09/2009 17:48

HPT is a BFN again, has been for days - since tomorrow is the official blood test date, there's really no chance that magically my hCG value can jump from below 20 to over 100. So it looks like one giant babyfail again. This one has been the worst to take, because we knew exactly how far we got - two good embryos in the right spot... and still NOTHING!!! ugh - don't really know what to do now. Guess we have to consider FET or not. Damn it! Late may birthdate would have been so perfect.

oh well - I hope you are doing ok! I'm glad you are still looking forward, esp. to getting back on meds and the baby making train!

sgibbo · 25/09/2009 19:09

How did it go today? any news? being a june baby myself i can advise that it's always better to have a birthday half way through the year!

I'm doing OK i spoke with the FC nurse again this week and see seems much nicer then the last one i had. She seems a bit more interested in a way and seems to spend a bit more time listening rather then jumping the gun with formality

xxxx

islegrin · 26/09/2009 14:41

Official results: negative

Oh well, at least I knew it was coming. I had the gut wrenching out of the way, but it's still tough. This of course, reinforces my daily testing. The call was 3 hours later than they said, I can't imagine if I had not tested on my own - I would have been out of my mind!!! I was pacing as it was.

Looks like we have some decisions to make, but right now - we'll probably go for another round with the frozen ones in Mid Nov or early December.

Hope you are doing well!
xx

sgibbo · 30/09/2009 22:56

I'm really sorry to hear that...I can't imagine how you feel and what emotions you must be going through, i know how hard it is normally without the added pressure of what you have been through xxxxxxx

Have you decided what your next move is?

I am having trouble even getting my meds this time round the pharmacy have only given me the ovitrelle and the menopur may not even been in in time for my next cycle.

Going away to the west country for a few days for our 3rd wedding anniversary which will hopefully relax us both!!!!

keep in touch it would be great to hear from you xxxxxxx

islegrin · 03/10/2009 08:55

sgibbo! I'm back on the upswing of the rollercoaster, and back on the next cycle! I'm so sorry to hear you are having trouble getting meds! Is that common? Is it a funding thing or a judgement call on the dr's part? Or just pharmacy stock? I've never heard of that before.

wow- you are nearly newlyweds! Congrats on year number 3. Wait - now I'm doing math, so you were actively trying before you got married For some reason I think that's more common in the UK than here, at least the trying part!

So we have 5 weeks of downregging and lining building (no stimming) then in first week of Nov we'll do a frozen embryo transfer (FET). Then of course the dreaded wait! I'm very excited, dr said everything last time went well, the only minor thing that she could see was my hormone levels were high for EC and that might have been a bit too high for sticking. anyway - I'm back on bc pills, and the headaches that come with them. I couldn't be happier - hope always does that to me.

islegrin · 08/10/2009 19:21

Sgibbo,

Just wondering how you are getting along. Not very exciting during this part - did you get your meds sorted out?

xx

islegrin · 14/10/2009 23:52

bump

sgibbo · 21/10/2009 23:35

Hey, sorry i haven't had 5 minutes to do anything at the moment and have been meaning to get back on here

Finally got meds sorted although it took forever it was apparently to do with stock and then it was to do with the manufacturer! started to take them this sunday I have a scan on monday to check the sizes and then hopefully i can have ovitrelle!

We decided that before we got married that we would stop using contraception so that my body could 'get back to normal' for when we intended to start. It is becoming more the norm here that you have a child out of wed lock

Not long left for you to wait now???? how have you been? have you any updates?

I spoke to the FC nurse this week and i had a surprising conversation with her that we were only supposed to have three cycles with ovitrelle and then we were supposed to go on the IVF list. Which if we had of known we would have been on the list back in April! Now we have to finish this cycle and then see the consultant and then go on the list. Because it will be on the NHS there will be a waiting list but apparently it's at 6 months at present so that's very positive news, when we first started the injections the list was 18months long!

Sorry for the long post had loads of information this week so excited to tell you!

islegrin · 22/10/2009 23:59

Don't be sorry at all, I'm very glad to hear your news! Especially that the wait list has shortened so much, that's excellent! So you are on menopur? I can't wait to hear your results with it, I hope this is the last time you will have to bother with any of this.

Please don't be offended by my ribbing you - about pre-wed bliss. I meant no offense.

Well I feel like the rollercoaster has broken down on me and we're waiting for repairmen as we sit stuck in the middle of one hill and another! My doc did some (new cutting-edge) miscarriage panel of blood tests and found that I have a genetic mutation that causes non-stickiness. I was blue about that for a couple of days, because we've lost YEARS without knowing a thing about it. Now there's doubt whether my previous BFP was really an ectopic or just early mc. Either way, the positive side is that it is an easy fix, just a pill everyday and I'm all sticky again! I feel like it's almost too late, this might be our last time of trying... but at least we have it sorted out beforehand! Gives us the best shot we've ever had!

In two weeks we go in for FET (3 embys this time), then the dreaded tww. Right now, just tiny little shots .1cc (nearly nothing compared to what we've been through) and some pills and some patches - easy peasy. Sounds like you are just a few days ahead of me, that will be nice to be near the same schedule again.

Now I've gone on toooo long, sorry about that!

xx

sgibbo · 23/10/2009 10:42

I've had my letter through now confirming the appointment with the consultant to see whether can be put on the list!

I'm on Menopur, we've decided not to tell people that we have started the injections again so I can't get my Dad to do them this time, so DH has been doing them and OMG they have either stung, bruised or really hurt!

It must have been really frustrating to know that after all this time it was something so simple to rectify! They should probably do those tests before your first try, especially over here you only have one shot on the NHS before you have to go private.

I have been talking to my freind recently about TTC because she has been TTC for about 5 months now and she has read all kinds of books and knows what times etc and what she should be doing and when. But her main concerns and main topics of conversation are the things that they don't check for because they expect standard answers not realising that there could be something not text book.

We were only talking the other day about sticking and she is worried that her luetal phase(if i have spelt that correctly???)isn't long enough for it to stick.

On my CD 2 i had a really heavy flow so much so that i had to be near a bath room every half hour (sorry TMI) and we think it could have been a CP. She thinks that I have a hormone deficeit that is stopping sticking

Do you have to take the tablets until it has stuck or longer term? Does the Genetic Mutation have a name?

Two weeks isn't that long to wait, the time will fly by! It'll soon be thanks giving and you'll have loads to keep you busy to pass the time! lol

Sorry, another long one!!!!

xxxxx

islegrin · 23/10/2009 19:32

The mutation has a very long name MTHFR is the short version - it basically keeps your body from breaking down folic acid and can cause vascular issues, clots, and miscarriage. I have one mutation on two genes, but a single on a single is v common (40% and may cause no issues) double or two on one is less common(5%) and more issues.

I have asked why no one did this test earlier, but the bottom line is very few docs even do them at all. My doc only started about 2 yrs ago. Mostly they don't do some of these tests until you have demonstrated a history of failed attempts, unfortunately that means we have to go through the failures! I count myself lucky that I have a doc that even ran the test, my gyn wouldn't have, in fact he discourages AC thinking that it's better to just let nature run its course (all fine and good if you have no issues).

By Thanksgiving we will know the results! So strange, I've got mixed emotions about that part. If it's negative again, I will be devastated - hmmm, I don't know if I've used that particular word before, but it feels appropriate this time. We're just getting down to the wire and I'm feeling the pressure.

I wish I had someone here who I could talk to about all of these things that was going through it. My trusted friends are at the point where they are avoiding pregnancy.

What CD are you on now? Are you going to just dtd for 7 days straight around OV? Shag with all you got, hon! It would be a great victory if even one of us got properly diffed this year, but I'm really hoping for BOTH of us!

xxx

islegrin · 23/10/2009 19:36

PS My mum (the nurse) will be here to do the progesterone inj, so DH will get to escape that part (he's thrilled) Sorry about your bruising!!! Is it arm or backside?

sgibbo · 24/10/2009 21:15

I think i may suggest it when we see the consultant in November, we only get one shot so i would like to know we have the best possible chance.

I've been researching on the internet about MTHFR and it's such a simple test that it should really be made standard!

I try not to think about things not working and try to stay as positive as possible, i think that's one to the main things that keeps me going! Otherwise i think i would have given up a long time ago

You can talk to me anytime, i know what it's like i'm very lucky that i have someone that i can talk to about it otherwise i think i would drive myself crazy,

I'm on CD 9 with scan on CD11 and hopefully Ovitrelle then, DH prefers not to be under pressure so we will probably be shagging all the time!!! I would be fantastic if we both fell at the same time it would be great xxxx

DH has been doing them in the arm, for some reason i find it easier being able to keep an eye on what he is doing rather then let him do them in the backside!

I had to do the injection myself tonight and mixed feelings really, DH is not home tonight at all and i really considered phoning my dad to come and do it but managed to get my head round doing it! (not an experience i would want to repeat) i had to do it in my stomach which was a different experience entirely! lol

islegrin · 27/10/2009 08:29

Did you get your scan today? Ovitrelle???
