Itching to do 'the business' tonight as tomorrow will be my peak day. It's difficult to do the one day on, one day off schedule. But keep reminding myself that DH and I did it every single day I got a high and peak last month and it was exhausting, plus it didn't give the swimmers a chance to re-charge! More importantly though was that after all that effort still didn't get a bfp. Think I will remain firm (ahem) and have a night off, raring to go tomorrow!

Hello to all the newbies, exciting to think that some home pregnancy tests will be cracked open in the next few days!

Horrendous PMT symptoms, boooooo! Dreading AF tomorrow. Hey ho.

engelbart · 14/07/2009 11:17

Oh no salander . I suppose there's still a teensy bit of hope until AF turns up?

How's everyone else today? I just want to finish work and go home and do some serious bedding for my peak day!

babyinacorner · 14/07/2009 18:35

hello salander and poppy

engelbart - hope you have a serious night of bd'ing sounds like your dh won't know what's hit him!!

mamabelli - i get completely confused with the ewcm - i seem to get it on my high days but not on my peaks -wtf??

Trixel - thank you for your wishes of bountiful peaks! we managed twice on both peak days - back to high now but so exhausted with it all don't think we will manage tonight as well.

engelbart · 14/07/2009 18:42

baby you definitely deserve a bfp after all your strenuous efforts. Fingers crossed.

Well I am confused. Was reading (in one of my many bored moments at work) that you have greatest chance of conceiving if you do the deed 2 to 3 days before you ovulate, and that actually doing it on your peak day is too late. Surely this can't be right . I know all that rubbish about having sperm stored up and it lasts for 5 days etc, but surely a fresh supply on your actual day of ovulation gives you a better chance? So much contradictory information out there.

What is everyone else doing? Are you all doing it on peak days and high days. You obviously don't have to share all this TMI if you don't want too...!

cyncan · 14/07/2009 18:46

hey ladies! Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. Nothing exciting on my end... just hating AF for the next few days.... lovely...

peasoup · 14/07/2009 19:42

Hiya! Can i join in. Just started using Clear Blue Fertility Monitor this month; am on day 20 now; am trying for number two; age 42 and a half!! Not sure how long my cycle is, probably 28 days. Managed to BD on the first peak day I got and then again on the high fertility day that followed the peak days (DH went away for the weekend, but managed to get one in on the Friday morning before he left and one on the Sunday night of his return!) Is that enough info to be added to your list?
I wanted to ask (hoping I'm not sounding thick) what are the blue lines on the test sticks representing? Doesn't seem to be any mention of it on the packaging/leaflet. After you pee a blue line appears and sometimes tow blue lines appear; what does it mean? Or does it mean nothing? I've only ever done two preganancy tests in my life (many many moons ago), but I vaguely rememeber these lines form those test sticks; are they the same?

babyinacorner · 14/07/2009 20:44

engelbart - well as i read it when the cbfm first shows peak it has detected the surge in lutenizing (sp?) hormone that happens 24-36 hours before you ovulate hence why you have 2 peak days and another high day afterwards. so say worst case scenario the machine shows peak on morning of day 14 and you don't ovulate until 36 hours later -evening of day 15 then it would make sense to bd on high day 16 as the egg can be fertilized up to 12 hours after it' s released (i think) equally i suppose you could ovulate the morning of day 15 and then your chances would be gone by evening that same day.

disclaimer I got a c at g.c.s.e science so i could well be talking out of my bottom !

anyone else shed any light on the situation?

babyinacorner · 14/07/2009 20:51

p.s i have done it every other day on high days (days 6,8,10) then twice on days 12 and 13 - peak days.

I then go into hibernation days 15 - 5 (of following cycle) - ha ha!!

no -in all seriousness i think it's a good idea to carry on doing it at least every three/four days the rest of the cycle so that the swimmers aren't stagnating in there

engelbart · 14/07/2009 20:54

Thanks baby that's really reassuring. I too have been doing it every other day on highs and every day on peaks and also on the last high day. Not sure I could manage twice a day on peak days though like (still v impressed) I go into hiberation at the same time as you too! Well we all need a break..

Trixel · 14/07/2009 21:16

tee hee, yes i am currently in hibernation. like a caterpillar in a cocoon. in just 8 days i shall spring forth, a beautiful butterfly, and expect my dh to mate with me whenever i so wish .....! they do well, don't they, to put up with us?!
hey peasoup - welcome! you don't need any qualifications to join us whatsoever, just a sense of humour, a positive outlook, and a healthy sense of what an absurd thing it can be sometimes to ttc!!
as for the blue lines, not really sure. i'm only on cycle 2 using the monitor, and when i read the instructions last mth it did make sense, but i've forgotten already. think that it might be detecting oestrogen first, and that's why one line gets stronger, then LH hormone next which is when the right hand side gets stronger and we get peaks. but of course if the scientists who actually researched and implemented this device read my synopsis as above, they would probably be quite disgusted and may even take it off me!! ah well. i think i may be overtired - very long (but brilliantly fun) day at the yorkshire show today!!!
how's everyone else?
xx

engelbart · 14/07/2009 22:08

Hey Trixel, I think your description of the lines and oestrogen etc is pretty convincing! I have to admit I have now started obsessing about those 2 lines, wondering if 1 is thick enough. I'm sure the lines were darker when I was ovulating last month.

The deed was done today and a pillow duly placed in the appropriate place for 35 mins, but TMI am sure there was still a fair bit dribbling out . Started panicing that my cervix isn't closed up enough or something else equally inane. I NEED to stop obsessing!

just added peasoup in

i reckon i would definitely dribble after 35 minutes engel. i always make sure i'm horizontal for an age, definitely over an hour, and preferably 3+!!!!! it means dh has to fetch everything which is lovely!

cyncan · 14/07/2009 23:13

I think you guys are right, the blue lines appeared on my peak days... so I am guessing it is the hormone levels. I am also in hibernation mode... I loved trixels butterfly analogy! We are cocoons!

All the luck to you dear engel !!!! Don't worry about the TMI... We are all going through the same things..

Happy to meet all the new members!!

xoxo to everyone! I am sure all of you are asleep by now!! Sweet dreams everyone!

salander · 15/07/2009 08:18

Well. No AF yet. But no symptoms at all really. To test or not to test? Thinking of waiting til tomorrow. What do you think, girls?

Also love the butterfly analogy by the way! Very sweet. How's everyone this morning?

engelbart · 15/07/2009 08:32

ooh salander, if I was you I'd test (but I have no self control Looks promising though, and your first attempt too!

Trixel- yes I think you could be right, more horizontal time needed!

Hi Cyncan, how are you? Gearing up for more stick testing soon!

peasoup · 15/07/2009 11:36

Oh no it never occured to me to prop myself up with a pillow! Will do next month for sure. Why don't they explain these lines in the leaflet? i'm so baffled. wouldn't it be cool if I got uo the duff first time. Don't feel ANY symptoms but don't expect I would so soon; would I?
Been drooling over other peoples babies in the doctors waiting room today-they're so squashy!!!

mamabelli · 15/07/2009 13:00

Hi everyone!

the lines on the sticks are oestrogen and Lutenizing hormones - can't remember off top of my head which is which but when your on a peak day they should both be dark. will investigate and report back lol!

oh my salander - i too would've caved and tested, yr a stronger woman than i good luck for when u do test!
babyinacorner i don't get ewcm on my peak days either but i've been told that its there but just higher up yr vajaja iyswim lol! it usually starts around 3 days pre-ov so sounds about right for you!
trixel don't worry too much about 'dribbling' cos most of it is the stuff the sperm live in (forgot the word lol) and not the sperms falling out. i think i saw on tv that the little swimmers are programmed to swim in the right direction anyways.
cyncan hope af isn't being too much of a cow and hope she buggers off soon so u can get cracking on the next cycle!
engelbart fertility friend says that the best chance of conceiving are if you 'do it' on the day of ovulation and the two days before. i also read somewhere that the first peak is a warning and the second one is when you ov! you can tell i spend too much time obsessing on the net can't you? lol
hello peasoup i'm hoping for a bfp before i'm 40 in jan!

oh and btw, my ucl is 24-26. since having my son in nov and then breastfeeding for a while my luteal phase has been really short around 9 days so hope its goin to be a bit longer as i'm convinced thats why i had a chem preg last month. another high for me today but lines are getting darker so hoping its a peak in the next couple of days!

have a good day all x

salander · 15/07/2009 14:55

Ach feck. Finally cracked and tested, BFN.

Still no AF tho. In a way am kind of all right with the neg as had a night out 2 weeks ago and drank too much vino, v bad, so will have more self control this cycle.

Back to the sticks once AF arrives.

Trixel · 15/07/2009 18:36

know what you mean salander, there always seems to be a big night out which coincides with post-ov, but before you know whether you're PG or not. most frustrating. sorry to hear about the bfn though. sounds like you didnt use first wee of the morning though, so there's still a chance isnt there?
i'm not particularly worried about the dribbling mamabelli - i just reckon that the more stays in, the better! they are programmed to swim in the right direction, but gravity's a stronger force for some of them i would have thought. no harm in giving as many as poss a fighting chance i reckon - besides which i'm on to a winner with Dh making drinks and / or snacks whilst i can't move, so i'll keep with the theory for now! in fact the first time i conceived, with ds1, dh had picked me up by my ankles and shaken me upside down!! probably had nothing to do with it, but it gave us a good giggle

day 6 and no stick requested - i guess it might think it knows me a bit better this month?

i think there is something natural you can take to increase your luteal phase mamabelli - will rack my brains / google to try to remember....

how's everybody's day?
x

salander · 16/07/2009 13:20

Good point, Trixel, it was lunchtime so probably not ideal. Anyway, still no AF so just going to chill out next few days and see what happens.

Never thought about the gravity thing either, interesting for next time, loving the idea of DH having to run round after me!
