Hi all. Well, after nearly a year of talking about it, and not really trying NOT to conceive, we are finally taking the plunge and this month will be our first PROPER month of TTC our first child. I am so excited! I realise it will not all be plain sailing, but I feel it is such a huge thing to have even reached this point.
I am on CD1 and have been v closely monitoring my cycles and ovulation patterns (we have been using natural family planning for a while) so am extremely nervous and excited about what is held in store.... Anyone in the same boat that would care to join me?!

Evening everyone

Broodzilla we've just got a cat (we've had her 6 weeks!) and I'm trying not to be too worried about toxoplasmosis. Need to be careful with the litter tray and I'm going to buy some disposable gloves for when DH is away and I have to change it. The NHS website has some info too www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/1107.aspx?CategoryID=54&SubCategoryID=137.

Actually more scared about the food + toxoplasmosis. Getting a bit paranoid about the chicken I had for tea and I might not even be preg!! If get a BFP, might ask the GP for a test to see if I'm immune.

We seem to be at a similar stage, my AF is due 4/5th Jan. DH did manage to postpone trip slightly so managed BD yesterday. Still might miss opportunity but feel a bit happier getting one last day in. Just my luck that he's away for 3 days just at the key time - men! Fingers crossed.

However, got my decaf tea so back on the cuppas - only thing warming my hands at work

Broodzilla · 18/12/2008 14:02

Thank you so much for the links Katster and Purple I actually feel much calmer about the whole thing know - for once, it seems that knowledge doesn't equal pain...

I wouldn't worry too much about eating chicken, it's got to cooked thoroughly anyway due to the salmonella risk, so that would kill of toxo too! (I had a nasty, nasty case of food poisoning a few years ago, so I'm militant about food hygiene and slightly OCD about what I eat when I go out...)

Grapefruit juice is meant to help your body produce EWCM (but as it's got tons of vit C it's also good at fighting off colds, so I'm getting two for one at the mo!) the same goes for cough syrups with Guaifenesin, so this bug might have come at a good time!

Purple are you using the OPKs? Mine was +ive yesterday, which was surprising as I thought that's unusually early - but what do I know, I'm new to the game! We BD last night (because of the +ive) but not before that because I'm a walking snotmonster. Hope we didn't leave it too late! Will give it a go tonight and tomorrow too, to be on the safe side.

Katster I hope things calm down at work soon! LOL (but in a nice way!) at the crying... I get days like that too, hormonal or not... glad to hear someone else is like it too, makes me feel more normal! Sore boobs sounds promising though, doesn't it? Fingers crossed and lots of babydust!

Right, best get back to work.

cantwaitforxmas · 19/12/2008 09:40

Okay after complaining about having no symptoms to play at spotting I woke up this morning feeling really nauseous. Nearly threw up when I was brushing my teeth and the smell of coffee is making me really queasy. Apparently it is possible to start feeling sick before the first missed AF but I'm not even due until xmas eve - think I am probably reading too much into a winter bug .

PurpleCrazyHorse · 19/12/2008 13:43

Hi ladies,

Fingers crossed CWFXmas!! Will be thinking of you over Christmas.

Broodzilla, I'm not using OPKs but have been mildly looking for discharge changes and ov pain. Last BDed on Tues as DH away until tonight. Think ov-ed cd17 last month so hoping we haven't missed it.

Thought the work Christmas party was sorted. I'm mostly teetotal so alcohol sorted and was feeling smug about that. Just found out we're eating tonight at a seafood restaurant!! Fixed menu, limited options. Luckily not a fan of seafood anyway but thinking will have to white lie and say I've got an allergy or something. Unlikely I'm pregnant yet but don't want to chance it. Not paying £21 for 2x duck rolls

katster37 · 19/12/2008 14:22

Well, I'm out . Got AF at 7am this morning, after really convincing myself we had been successful. I a m also worried 'cos I am a day early which means my LH phase has gone down to 9 days again - ie not long enough. I am taking B6 and Agnus Castus which last month stretched it to 10 days. Boo!! Any tips anyone? The only good thing is that atleast I can drink over xmas and new year!
cantwait, FINGERS CROSSED!!! I am just looking forward to January's BD fest!! But I guess even if we conceive, if my LH phase is this short, it doesn't make any difference anyway....

OP posts:
cantwaitforxmas · 19/12/2008 14:30

So sorry katster - it's so easy to convince yourself isn't it. I am trying to be sensible but still think I will be very surprised and disappointed if we don't get a BFP this month. Enjoy the january BD fest ! Sorry, I am no use when it comes to advice (not even sure I know what a luteal phase is ) but I'm sure someone on mn will have had this problem before.

cantwaitforxmas · 19/12/2008 14:33

Actually I'm not even sure that's what LH stands for - just have a vague memory of seeing it elsewhere on mn .

katster37 · 19/12/2008 14:37

thanks for your reply cantwait - you're right, I wrote the wrong thing - LH is something else I think, but I meant luteal phase!! Off to do some research....

OP posts:
cantwaitforxmas · 19/12/2008 18:18

Hi Katster - I wasn't saying LH was wrong, I just wasn't sure I understood you. Hope you don't think I was being rude! Good luck with the research.

Snowfalls108 · 19/12/2008 23:08

Hello!
Also ttc for the first time. AF due 8 Jan, last one finish 2 days ago and BD'd last night and planning to carry on every other night.
I tried the sticks last month to gauge when ovulation was and reckon it was on day 14, which makes it Christmas day this month!
We've booked a ski holiday from 4 -11 jan.
My main concern is that everyone will immediately spot that we're trying as I'm not drinking - over Christmas and then in a ski resort! Any ideas anyone of how I can disguise this?
Thanks,
SF

katster37 · 20/12/2008 11:53

no no cantwait wasn't thinking you were rude at all! Did some research and think I might try a progesterone cream after next month....It sounds messy but I think it has proved quite effective.
Welcome snowfall! I know what you mean about the not drinking thing. I think if I were you I would probably have a small glass so it doesn't look obvious. There isn't any research to say that light drinking is problematic anyway, although you know what you are comfortable with. Good luck!

PurpleCrazyHorse · 21/12/2008 10:04

Hi Snowfall - welcome. Great suggestion Katster, I also had a small drop of wine at the first of my family Christmas dinners yesterday and made it last for ages!! I don't really drink so that wasn't too unusual for me anyway. I guess a few people might suspect, which I don't mind, I just don't want all the 'are you pregnant yet?' questions.

One non-drinking option is to embark on a alcohol detox post-Christmas. No-one needs to know you didn't get hammered prior! My boss did this and had us all on - we thought she'd gone super healthy

The dim sum / seafood work meal debacle came off okay. There were a lot of prawns etc which I avoided (mostly!) but also chicken, beef and duck. Couldn't resist sesame prawns on toast though and had a little slice. Bit naughty but until I get a BFP, I'm not going to be too harsh.

Broodzilla · 22/12/2008 17:01

Hi ladies,

How are you all doing? Welcome to Snowfall!
Thought I'd pop in for an update...

CD14 (5 DPO)... and wouldn't you know it, the craziness has sunk in. When I was waiting for my AF after coming off the pill, I was sure that I was just obsessed because I didn't know how long it was going to take until we could start trying... then AF came, I did a little happy dance and promptly got some OPKs, as I didn't know when exactly I OVed... Found out it was early in the cycle and did another happy dance, let the BD-fest begin and thought that I'd just been obsessed about getting the timings right... I was reading about other people worrying about how early is too early to test, and thought that I certainly would wait til AF is due. I mean, that's what you should do, right?

Until I found myself on Amazon ordering to ultra-early PG tests. Because I decided that a) apparently you really CAN use them 7 DPO... and why not find out as soon as you can and b) it'll either be a lovely wedding-present or I can drown my sorrows celebrate NYE with gusto.

Anyone else caught the baby-crazies or is it just me?

PurpleCrazyHorse · 27/12/2008 12:03

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas - we had a lovely time just the pair of us and even went out for a lovely walk at lunchtime (very civil!). DH has certainly enjoyed a few drinks courtesy of me not drinking and therefore driving

Had a few days not thinking about TTC and feel all the better for it. Was getting a bit crazy for a while. Totally know what you mean Broodzilla about the early PG tests, been looking at a few myself. Keen to test early on my 30th birthday so I know if I'm having Pimms with breakfast or not!

Quickly discovered I can't watch out for early PG symptons (if I get any) over Christmas as generally feeling a little bloated and sick due to eating chocolates and other rubbish Trying to stop munching but it's so tempting! Need to get back in the gym before people think I'm PG when actually I'm not!

idreamofbeanie · 30/12/2008 16:12

Hi all, hope everyone had a great xmas.

I thought a name change was in order after xmas so cantwaitforxmas becomes idreamofbeanie ta da.

Well AF arrived xmas morning - I was obviously very disappointed but luckily have been so busy having a great xmas I haven't had time to mope. Fingers crossed for this month!

PurpleCrazyHorse · 04/01/2009 19:16

Sorry to hear about AF IDoBeanie, I'm due today or tomorrow. Already took an early PG test using a standard kit (stupid I know) - I just had to know something. Very unlike me. Unsurprisingly came back BFN. However due to the unscientific nature of my testing I'm now waiting for AF and will test again if late.

Had a fab birthday with friends and has taken my mind off things. Drunk lots of Schloer (sp?) but wasn't the only one as one friend breastfeeding and another on antibiotics!! Lots of fun with their 3mth old baby - very cute.

Hoping everyone else had a great Christmas and New Year.

idreamofbeanie · 05/01/2009 10:57

Hi Purplecrazyhorse, sorry to hear about BFN but it was very early to test so I will keep my fingers crossed AF doesn't arrive.

I am on CD12 and unfortunately DP is working away most of this week but we BD'd yesterday and he will hopefully be home on Wednesday night and Friday night so still a chance we could be lucky this month. I am just so impatient already . Spent most of the hols surrounded by kids which was great but made me realise how much I want to start a family.

katster37 · 05/01/2009 19:15

Hi purple and Idreamofbeanie (nice name change!) Did you hvae nice CHristmases? I can't believe it's over and back at work today was pretty hard! Broodzilla are you about? When is it your wedding, am I being stupid and are you on your honeymoon?!?!
Well, I am on CD18 and had lots of EWCM all week, but managed to convince myself that this was only due to the Red Raspberry Leaf I am taking. Does anyone know anything about PCOS, btw? Do you think my periods would be irregular if I had this? I am jst concerned I am not ovulating as I never manage to get a positive on an OPK. Sorry, I sound really stressy today!!
Hope you ladies are well and here's wishing for a super 2009 x x x

Broodzilla · 06/01/2009 01:23

Happy New Year Ladies!
(And Happy belated 30th Purple!)
I'm back from the wedding/honeymoon, all married and smug!
(Not really... I keep expecting to feel all grown-up and wife-like, but it's just the same old me with an extra ring on my finger...)

Katster you've now got me googling raspberry leaf tea... it's obviously some marvelous TTC trick that I don't know about. I'm not an expert on PCOS, but are your cycles fairly regular? And are you making sure that you're only weeing on the OPKs in the afternoon, and not weeing for 4 hours before? (Sorry if I'm stating the obvious... but I heard that it's really easy to miss the surge.)

Purple we really are on a very similar cycle. I'm keeping fingers xed that you're not starting the next one... My AF arrived the day after we got back, so I'm now on CD3. In a way, I'm relieved as I went a bit OTT with the champers on NYE!

Anyway, good luck with the BDing Beanie! Let's hope 09 has some babies in store for us all...

PurpleCrazyHorse · 06/01/2009 09:51

Congratulations Broodzilla I hope you had the most amazing day and every blessing for your life together.

Despite the very early BFN, no AF arrived and retested yesterday getting a BFP - roughly calculated as 4 wks 4 days. Totally excited waiting to test etc but now a bit shocked and thinking life will never be the same!

idreamofbeanie · 06/01/2009 11:45

Wow Purple that's fantastic - CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I'm so pleased for you. Can't wait to experience that shocked feeling for myself.

FutureMum · 06/01/2009 12:05

Thought I would join the club as started trying for number 1 just before the New Year. Husband and me keeping our fingers crossed and hoping 2009 is the year when we start a family. Am psyching myself to expect anything, either to fall pregnant pretty much straight away or to wait for months/years. Scared of the hormonal aspect of it (I am very emotional on a normal basis, so I wonder about the ups and downs ahead?) No family or friends nearby (we are new-ish here), so I shall turn to the Forum for advice every now and again.

idreamofbeanie · 06/01/2009 12:56

Welcome Futuremum,

I also started trying for number 1 just before xmas. I have been trying to brace myself for it to take a while but I was still really disappointed when AF arrived and I am already feeling impatient this month. DP is in much less of a rush so it's great to have the forum to offload all this 'enthusiasum' on.

I hope we both have a very short wait!

VeryAnnieMary · 06/01/2009 13:00

Hi all

Very new at this - have been a lurker for a while as it's taken two years since DH & I thought we might start TTC to actually braving the decision itself... I've never been maternal but I think hormones have finally taken over, in both of us funnily enough.

Anyway I ran out of pills on NYE 2008 and are "seeing what happens". My major worry is the return of horrific heavy periods like I had before going ont eh pill (anaemia was part of the decision to go on the pill). I'm also scared about losing my lie-ins and other lovely things about a child-free life. But I'm giving it a go. Not a single person in RL knows except for DH & I and I have to keep it that way for a while.

Thanks for all your previous postings - it's nice to know I'm not alone!

And CONGRATS to Purple!

PurpleCrazyHorse · 06/01/2009 21:42

Welcome Futuremum and VeryAnnieMary hoping you enjoy the thread. I'm sure the 2009 BFP luck will continue.

Filled in my form at the GP today and waiting for a midwife to see me at about week 9/10. Seems ages away. Don't feel PG, don't look PG, no-one in RL (except DH) knows I'm PG so it seems all a bit surreal. Deliberately not looking at anything too baby-like until after the 1st scan. Decided not to tell anyone until then either (although might spill to parents just before). Life goes on as before, just with a pee stick plus pink line in the bathroom bin

Good luck fellow TTCers, fingers crossed for Jan
