first month of TTC no.1 anyone care to join?

Hi all. Well, after nearly a year of talking about it, and not really trying NOT to conceive, we are finally taking the plunge and this month will be our first PROPER month of TTC our first child. I am so excited! I realise it will not all be plain sailing, but I feel it is such a huge thing to have even reached this point.
I am on CD1 and have been v closely monitoring my cycles and ovulation patterns (we have been using natural family planning for a while) so am extremely nervous and excited about what is held in store.... Anyone in the same boat that would care to join me?!

Hello Katster it's my first month of trying to concieve and I am on day 10 so am just heading into the right time. I'll join you although I'm slightly ahead. But also excited. It's all new. Just used an ovulation stick for the first time a few minutes ago. It was a bit messy! Anyway no surge. I'm sure I'll get better at it.

Eeeek, I know - so exciting! Are you doing anything special / different, eg diet wise, or temping? We have said we will just 'see what happens' for the first 3 months and then see if we need to do anything extra from about Feb.
Do you know when you ovulate? I have been on about CD18 or 19 the past 4 or 5 months, so fairly late on. We will see.... Good luck!

Well I'm not temping because I don't think I would keep it up. Im going to be checking my mucous (not sure what letters you are supposed to use for that). Last month I think I got that around day 11 or 12. This month I have my ovulation sticks as well (wasn't trying last month - had my coil removed day 12).

I'm also drinking grapefruit juice and doing the deanna/dianna? plan. Bding every two days from day 8 and then when I get the surge have a bit more.

I'm 34 in December so I think we should go at it....my DH agrees. But other than that I'm here just to talk to people about it because you want to keep it to yourself in your real life.

I'm also writing on the grapefruit knicker checking thread - and they are really lovely and full of good advice.

Anyway what about you....I know you say you will be relaxed but are you going to be quite energetic?!

I've been posting on a couple of other threads too.

We'll be TTC DC1 from now onwards really - been off the pill since late Oct but waited a month. Helping lead a kids summer camp in August so trying not to be too keen and be due then - we're camping

Keeping it fuss free this month but will take a more defined plan of action (prob Deanna plan) from Jan.

Totally understand about posting on here but keeping it quiet in real life. Some friends know we're TTC (as there's no pressure) but family certainly don't!!

Yes, I agree that MN is a great place to compare notes, so to speak, and sound off when it's not so easy in real life.
I worked out I ov around CD 18 or 19 so from day 10 we will BD every other day, and maybe a bit more around CD17 ish. Am on CD 4 now, getting excited! Also a bit scared! It's funny, DH wanted to wait a year, but suddenly changed his mind and is now totally calm and matter of fact about the whole thing, whereas I am the one who seems to be having a wobble! Maybe cos it's my body that has to go through it all. I think I am scared about miscarriages, as they seem to be so so common.

Hello Purple - yes I also have told a few people and my mother. But the vast majority I have not. I have to say the couple of people I have told I have sort of regreted telling - My mother because she can't help get excited and keeps asking me about it. And I'm saying: I've only been trying for a couple of weeks how could I be pregnant yet??? And the close friend I told, who also wants to concieve is a lot more open among our friends about baby plans for all of us than I would be. I really should tell her I want to keep it quiete. I have a higher risk of MC and so I just want to be private and careful?..whoa?that became a bit of a rant didn't it?

Hey Katster yep I have been trying to get some in over the weekend?.but was also visiting my mum so had to squeeze it in as it were! Having said that I havn't got EWCM yet and my ovulation LH surge monitor hasn't given me a smiley face yet. I hope it comes soon?.I am sure that last month I got all the signs on day 12 and 13. I'm on day 13 now and just don't feel it's the right time yet. Generally I get a lot more in the mood at ovulation time. Which is good news for this sort of activity. And can I also say that I have been having moments of panic and stuff. But I have to say the women on the grapefruit strand wrote some absolutely lovely stuff about motherhood that made me feel a lot better. I also talked to DH and he made me feel a bit better. I'm also scared of MC?but I think you just have to go for it.

OK so here is a question for you two - Would you do some gentle skiing in early pregnancy? I'm a competent skier and tend to think that it would probably be fine if I stuck to blue runs and didn't go all day. Hmmm.

Deeja I have got a ski trip booked for early Feb and am hoping to be pg. I think I will go (if pg) and prob just ski in the mornings, sticking to green and blue runs. I think the lovely fresh air and gentle exercise can't be damaging, and also we are going to a resort I know quite well hence I know my limits! When have you got a trip planned for?
I have also told my best friend and she is ridiculously excited about it. I don't regret telling her, although I do want to keep it at that tbh. Mum knows we aren't exactly careful and I think she suspects, but she worries so much about everything, I don't want to tell her at the minute. Also, she had a terrible pregnancy with me and then awful post natal depression, and she is always telling me that being pg and having a young baby is not all it's cracked up to be
So we will see! I would tell her as soon as I got a BFP though.

Katster - I'm quite excited as we have just booked a week in Meribel over Christmas! Also if I don't get a bfb this month I will have my fertile period the weeks we are away. Which would be nice I think.

Yeah I'm thinking some gentle skiing of blues and greens and not pushing myself too much if I did get bfp. But then again it depends how I'm feeling...if very tired and lots of sickness and very tired I might take it very easy and read a few books and take a walk around the lake they have in mottaret. I went to Meribel last year and it's my favourite resort.

But I suppose I was wondering about the risk of accident...and whether falling down risks the pregnancy. I don't fall down that much and I'm fairly careful but it would feel awaful to have a MC while out there - and you would never know if it would have happened anyway or if you caused it.

Anyway where are you going and how are you feeling? What day are you on?

Hey deeja, yes I know what you mean about falling. I went to Meribel last year, and it is a lovely place just to chill out. I hurt my knee on the second day and had a couple of days just chilling and reading etc. See how you feel.

Hey. Well I'm OK but just don't think I have managed it this month. I was using ovulation predictor sticks and tested them over the 7 days that they tell you to and never got an LH surge (or didn't catch it). I also never got any EWCM - which I usually do. So obviously I don't really know but I'm not feeling too hopeful. I did bd on days 5, 8, 12, 14 and then last night (15) I was too tired and I really didn't feel up for it. Away at my DH's mums tonight and they only have two single beds in separate rooms?.so probably no bding tonight.

Anyway we shall just have to see how it goes! Anyway I'm quite happy to have another run at this over Christmas as I will be fertile while on the skiing holiday?.lots of time to devote to bedding - and if it's a girl I could call her Meribel. He he - how likely would that be huh?

Anyway how are things with you Katster? Are you bding yet and what is your plan?

We're also on our first month of ttc - its very exciting, but seems to be a lot harder than I first thought.

I've been monitoring cervical fluid, and temping for a few months prior to ttc - but my cycles are bit all over the place at the moment since coming off the pill in the summer. Am currently on CD30, but haven't yet ovulated - my temps are all over the shop and haven't had any ewcm yet either. Not really sure what's going on.

According to Fertility Friend I may yet ovulate and could just be having a really long cycle - therefore there's going to be quite a lot of bedroom action this weekend! Poor dh - I think he's getting worn out, and we're only in our first month!

Have just bought first ever box of OPKs - cannot believe how expensive they were. Will use first one tomorrow morning... very exciting!

Hope the bding is going well. I ams sure I have read that every two days is fine and you don't really increase your chances if you bd more than that.

Hmm, well first BD in the TTC game yesterday (CD10) although as I don't think I ov until CD18, was just a practice really! Had exceptionally long AF this month, right up until CD9 which was weird. Hopefully we are aiming to do it every other day but we will see.
I think I am going mad though, as started having loads of worries this weekend. I read the Jools Oliver book, and it really freaked me out and made me think I don't know whether I am ready for this - there seems to be so much to think/worry about. Does anyone else have these fears?

Katster yes I had the sorts of fears you are talking about at about. I think it's normal.

I was at a party yesterday and there were a few young children around and I have to say that I just felt odd around them and not sure what to do. I wasn't wanting them or anything. I just think it will be something totally different when you have your own. I somehow feel that my life will be half lived if I don't have children?.so I am taking that plunge into the dark abyss.

Can I be rude and ask how old you are? Actually I'd be interested to know the age of all the first timers on this thread.

I'm on the old TWW so although not hopeful may try a little bit of simptom spotting to while the hours away!

Deeja - my cycles are a bit erratic. Had two normal ones of 34 days just after coming off the pill in the summer, but last month was about 46 days and this cycle also looks like another epic. But at least with temping I know whether or not I'm actually ovulating. Have yet to this month but I suppose there's time yet...

Is everyone on the 2ww at the moment then?

Sn0wflake Hi, I'm 29 and TTC DC1. Been off the pill since end Oct but were careful in November to avoid being due in August as we're helping lead a kids camp.

However, I'm now feeling a bit ropey so thinking AF is due, which would be about right - not sure my cycle has settled yet, though. Last month, did keep an eye out for ov and spotted a couple of symptoms so hoping to do the same this month.

DH is off to Uganda in Jan for 2.5wks which will scupper any plans for a BFP that month. Feeling like the pressure is on a bit for Dec but trying not to stress too much.

can I join you. I have posted on another couple of threads but it's nice to chat with some other first-timers. This is our first month ttc DC1 - I am on CD5. For the first few months we are just going to rely on lots of GOFing although if I don't get a BFP quite quickly I will probably try to at least get a better idea of when I ovulate. I stopped taking pill 3 months ago and AF still arriving every 28 days but that's as much as I know about my cycle. I am 29 BTW.

I'm really excited but nervous too. I was doing my xmas shopping and thinking that by next xmas I could be pregnant or have a baby - it doesn't seem quite real somehow. Does anyone else feel like that? We haven't told anyone in RL, a few friends know that we are thinking about ttc soon but thats it.

I know what you mean Deeja, I totally feel like my life would be half lived, I'm just feeling scared. I think it was 'cos I visited my parents thisweekend, and I started thinking about how having a baby would change my relationship with them, which sounds really weird, I know - I think I am just having a freak (which I do all the time anyway!)

Purple well my fingures are crossed for you. All I can say is that sometimes there are no early signs of preganancy so it could be your month.

LadyMetroland Hmm it must be a bit frustrating to have your cyles all over the place. Mine seem to be about 27 or 28 days long. I am sure that when I was in my 20's they were about 31 days long. I have heard that your cycles can get shorter as you get older - but for the life of me can't remember where I read that.

Morning Katster - I think I have been having the pregnancy panic on and off for years. I'd have a couple of months where I felt broody and then the loss of control I would have over my life would terrify me. Also personally I am really am not looking forward to being pregnant. I don't want to have something inside me. I don't want to be in pain or sick and I don't want it to make me fatter than I am. I have a fear of pregnancy itself. This might be to do with the fact that I got pregnant when I was 18 and hated every seccond of it. I didn't want it and fell asleep every night knowing there was something inside me that was growing and I really couldn't handle it. Anyway I had an abortion and have never regreted it. It was right for me. But I think the experience has left me with a bad impression of pregnancy. I hope that this time it will feel good. (I hope this doesn't offend anybody - but it's honestly what I felt)

Well I'm 34 in December and I have been with my DH for six years and we got married in September. I'm very happy. So I'll give this getting pregnant thing a go. But before we started out, me and DH agreed that if we had problems that we would then go down the adoption route. I think that would be best for us.

Hi all - my partner and I are also starting to think about ttc. I've not yet come off the pill (LadyMetroland and Cantwaitforxmas, did you purposely wait a few months before ttc?) and am wondering when would be a good time. I know that I've got to travel to Canada in October 2009, which means that if we were to conceive immediately I'd have just given birth in September...if it takes longer than that, however, I'm not sure I'll want to be heavily pregnant while travelling. Then there's the December baby question - not wishing to sound flippant, but ideally it would be nice to avoid a Christmas birthday for the LO (my uncle and grandmother had birthdays in late December, which often ended up getting overlooked!) - so I'm torn between starting right away and waiting until the spring...

I'm 26, btw.

One more question for those of you travelling over the holidays: worrier that I am, I can't help wondering about the effects of long-haul flights in early pregnancy (even though apparently there's no reason that changes in air pressure etc. should affect baby). Is anyone else thinking about this, or am I being overly cautious?

I had 2 reasons for coming off the pill a couple of months before ttc. Partly I wanted to see whether AF would still be regular (I had been on pill for 13 years so I thought it might take a while for my cycle to settle down but AF is still arriving every 28 days). Secondly my DP wasn't so sure about ttc and needed time to get used to the idea so this was sort of a small first step. I think that having a couple of pill-free months before getting pregnant helps with dating as you know the day of your last AF but not sure whether it really matters.

Hello Kwini. My tuppence worth is that it can take a while to get pregnant and so trying to scheadule too much may not work out - and also unfortunate things like miscarraiges can happen which means you can be at square 1 again.

If it were me I would just start trying. Deal with everything else after that. I was born two days before Christmas and always quite enjoyed it. On my Birthday there would always be a festive feel to everything.

I wouldn't want to do long haul heavily pregnant but i wouldn't worry about it much before then. I just think it would be really uncomfortable.

Thanks Sn0wflake. Now we're past the possible August due date, we're just going to run with it. I'd love a Sept/Oct/Nov baby simply to avoid Christmas, New Year, mine, mums & DH's birthdays (which are all within about 4 wks of each other!).

However, just spent the weekend with a friend and their newborn and I'm feeling pretty broody so no longer mind birthdays clashing.

As a January baby myself, it's got its pros and cons but it does mean I can get joint birthday & Christmas gifts
