Thought I would start a thread for the few of us who havent got a clue about what is going on! Im TTC #2 and currently on CD23 of what I am hoping is a good month, have been doing lots of BD and have been using Ov sticks although I am rapidly loosing faith in them! Not sure when AF is due or even if I have ovulated yet! I have weird cycles because of Endometriosis and was very lucky to concieve my DC but struggling this time round and thought for some strange reason it would be fine this time too!

So anyone in the same boat as me please come join me so we can be confused together x

It's nice to know I'm not the only one with no idea when they're ovulating or likely to see AF. With ds I got pregnant really quickly so never had AF or had time to worry about it.

swottybetty · 18/09/2008 12:51

that is v nice of you LMM. ty! just goes to show how clueless i was//am - due date calculated for may. hiya gem and goodluck!

Your body gives you some clear signs before you ovulate, so that is something to start looking for especially if you have had something happen to reset'' your cycle eg implant removed, stopping bc pills or having a miscarriage (Sorry to hear your news, Barbie )

Firstly, sorry if this is TMI ladies...but right before ovulation your cervical mucus (discharge) will become clear, slippery and stretchy and will have the appearance of raw egg white. This will happen in the few days before ovulation. When the cervical mucus is at its most watery and abundant that is your most fertile period, and will be 1-2 days before ovulation. If the egg does not become fertilised you can expect to get your period in roughly two weeks from that date. So even if you don't know where you are in your cycle you can still look for these signs which will not only alert you to ovulation period but also when to expect your period.

Hormonal methods of birth control which stop ovulation eg the pill, implants, depo etc also stop this cervial mucus, so it wasn't something I had ever remembered as I had been on the pill for 12 years continuously.

Although following miscarriage and/or stopping birth control it can take anything up to six weeks for ovulation to occur so you may not see your first period for anything up to eight weeks.

Claire236 · 19/09/2008 11:07

AnnasBananas I'd noticed my discharge reappearing having stopped taking the pill 4 weeks ago & assumed that was a sign of things getting back to normal so thanks for clarifying for me. Don't think there's any such thing as TMI on threads like this is there.

barbie1 · 19/09/2008 14:44

girls im so silly i dont even know what cd means??? help!!!! what chance have i got for a bfp!!!! lol x

Claire236 · 19/09/2008 15:18

cd = cycle day. I think.
Luckily getting a bfp doesn't depend on knowing all these abbreviations. I thought you just had lots of sex & along came a bfp. Shows what I know.

barbie1 · 19/09/2008 15:26

thanks claire, i thought having a baby was easy too! how much harder is it when you really have to try?! lol...all those years trying to avoid getting preggers and now i want to be (again )..so does cd 1 start first day of period or last day? ie day one a new cycle, see i told you i was useless!

rislip · 19/09/2008 15:48

I'm going to start calling you Dr. Bananas. You're very helpful. I truly don't know where to start.Think I might log on to Fertility Friend....my really long cycle is just a pain and I feel so depressed about the whole thing.

littlemissmischief · 19/09/2008 16:05

Barbie CD is cycle day and it starts on the first day of your period (thats proper bleeding not just spotting)

Rislip - sorry your so down, I have such long cycles and it feels like forever to wait, but you will get there dont worry.

AnnasBananas - Thanks for the help again

And like Claire said, its not how many abbreviations you know or knowing the exact ins and outs (excuse the pun) but more to do with the sex bit - which im sure we all know how to do! Thats what get the BFPs the other bits just help x

Dolliebird · 19/09/2008 16:29

Hello ladies, may I join you? I'm ttc my 2nd, and like so many others am a tad baffled at all these abbreviations!!

I know about the whole discharge like egg white thing (not that knowing about it helps any it would seem!), but does anyone know if hanging around with your legs in the air for ages after doing the horizontal rumba actually helps?

Mhairi100 · 19/09/2008 16:35

Hello, can I join too? I stopped taking Micrgynon 30 on 11 August, and still haven't had a 'real' AF, just lots of horrible stomach cramps. Not knowing where I'm at is getting me down...rislip, I know how you feel!

Claire236 · 19/09/2008 17:29

Don't know if having your legs in the air genuinely helps but I like it. Get comfy with my legs on the wall reading a book while dh makes me a cup of tea. Highlight of my day.

Liney15 · 19/09/2008 20:06

Hi - TTC now following a mmc 3 weeks ago (Hi Barbie nice to see you over here from the miscarriage page!)

I'm trying to chart my temperature at the moment but my mind isn't playing along and keep getting insommnia which doesn't help as the book I read said you have to sleep for 3 hours prior to taking your temperature - anyone know if this really matters?

AnnasBananas · 19/09/2008 20:45

From what I hear (from a friend who has done numerous IUI and IVF attempts from her consultant) you don't have to lie with your legs in the air afterwards it makes absolutely no difference at all...although I did who knows if that worked or not??? Someone else advised me to lie on my stomach with cushion under pelvis ie with your arse sticking up in the air. I did this too!!! Mad, I was. When really all it comes down to is regular sex...if only it was that easy when you WANT to get pregnant!!

Rislip, I had longish cycles too, about 35-37 days and it always felt like forever to have 'another chance' after getting AF. My ovulation was always very late on about cd 22 so I wasted so much money on OPKs which told me to start testing on cd 10 etc, I finally figured it out.

hanny20 · 19/09/2008 21:10

hi
I am new on this but this thread seems much more up my street! i am ttc no.2 for a year now and it is really getting me down. I went to my gp who gave me at most a minute of her time and babbled about a CD21 blood test. So next month i booked an appointment, arrived and waited half an hour later i was called to the desk to say the nurse was sick and no one could do the test i tried to explain i needed it done that day! But they refused I was so upset and felt depressed the whole day. I am trying to pick myself up as i know stress can affect fertility but much easier said than done ! So any TTC tips much appreciated. I have now been peeing on sticks for 6 months and is now routine between brushing my teeth and getting dressed how sad!

AnnasBananas · 19/09/2008 21:30

Hi Hanny, sorry you're so frustrated with it all. It took me over a year TTC for dd1 I found it very upsetting/stressful when all around me falling pregnant accidentally or at the drop of a hat.

You can take faith in that your body has done it once before. You will get there!!

Do you have regular cycles? Do you know for sure that you are ovulating every month? Perhaps it might be an idea to get your other hormomes checked too if you are going for the cd 21 progesterone test, you can get the FSH and LH tests done as well then talk about the results with your GP. I know not all GP's are sensitive to this or particularly knowledgeable in some cases.
