Thought I would start a thread for the few of us who havent got a clue about what is going on! Im TTC #2 and currently on CD23 of what I am hoping is a good month, have been doing lots of BD and have been using Ov sticks although I am rapidly loosing faith in them! Not sure when AF is due or even if I have ovulated yet! I have weird cycles because of Endometriosis and was very lucky to concieve my DC but struggling this time round and thought for some strange reason it would be fine this time too!

So anyone in the same boat as me please come join me so we can be confused together x

I am in the same boat as you, littlemiss, though luckily without the endometriosis. DS was conceived first time we thought about having a baby but no.2 is proving a lot harder. Have tried to get some tips on the conception threads but really dont have a clue what all the acronmyns etc mean and no understanding of what is going on! My only real effort so far is using the ov sticks and I do get positive results but with no success even then ... ho hum.

rislip · 16/09/2008 12:13

Yes please! I have what appears to be a 36-38 day cycle and I'm 5 months down the track for trying for no 2. I posted yesterday about Ov sticks as I didn't have much luck with them last month. And I'm starting to freak out that I'm told old etc.
Plus 12 of my friends are pregnant.

littlemissmischief · 16/09/2008 12:15

Hi Stillstanding Nice to see you, sorry your in the same boat as me its rubbish isnt it! We concieved DC after 3 weeks of being together so obviously thought it would be easy as anything this time! How long have you been trying for now?

I used to be the same as you, didnt know the codes and all the tips people were using, think Im a bit of an expert now, as I spend an unhealthy ampunt of time on here, would be happy to help you with anything you are stuck on [happy]

Hi Rislip, sorry I think we cross posted. This is my first month using the Ov sticks and I have not had a positive one yet so starting to think this is the longest cycle ever but I have had faint 2nd lines for the last 4 days so now thinking that was my positive maybe? I have heard alot of people saying they dont work and one Mnetter told me yesterday she got faint lines (which is classed as negative) for 2 weeks and them got pg so she must of ovulated! I would just use them as a guide maybe? How old are you if you dont mind me asking Im sure your not to old tho x

OP posts:
rislip · 16/09/2008 14:52

Oh I was the same, I tested every day when I thought I would be ovulating and the line never went really dark (like it said on the pack) and then it just got lighter and lighter so I'd obviously missed the boat. I did only get the cheapy boots brand ones, so will spend a bit more cash this time round and get the first response ones. I'm 35 in Feb. It's not too old I know, but like you, I concieved very first time trying. It's silly getting so worried I know, it's only been such a short time realistically.

How long have you been ttc for, I would start looking into the possibility of being referred. Endo can certainly cause problems with regards to ttc.

Endometriosis is not actually the only cause of weird and or irregular cycles. Hormonal imbalances are often the root cause of such problems (in this regard a condition called polycystic ovaries is a common culprit). In these circumstances OPK's are certainly not worth using.

Cycles of over 35 days in length are more likely than not to be anovulatory.

OPK's are beset with problems anyway; these kits measure LH. If LH is elevated (which is a common problem with PCO for instance) then the kit will read that excess level and give a false reading. Also these kits also work on two misleading principles; namely that a rise in LH is immediately followed by ovulation and that there is only one rise in LH every month. Both of these are simply not true.

How is your endometriosis being managed at present; have you been offered any treatment re this to date?.

littlemissmischief · 16/09/2008 17:05

Rislip - My 2nd line came up for about 3/4 days this month and got fainter and today I got nothing so assuming that may be my ovulation even though it was technically a negative, mine were cheapy ebay ones too, cant afford the posh ones! 34 is definatley not old, but I know what you mean I worry what if my first dc was luck and i'll never have anymore its worrying isnt it!

Attila - Ive been trying for about 6 months, I know its not really a long time but it feels like it and i just wish i had a regular cycle to work with cos i feel like im always in limbo! I was told i had PCOS for a long time until I had a laproscopy in which I was diagnosed with Endo, My cycles used to be terrible, I once went a year without a period and then bled for a few months non stop, obviously being pg helped and then since having him my periods have been alot more regular but still not regular enough if you know what I mean.
Im not having any treatment for my endo as it has been pretty good since having my DC.

lol at a thread for those ttc but clueless.

i just came to the conception area cause i want to find out what on eath a luteal ((??)) legnth is. and the temp buddies just terify me. tho' they seem to have disappeared as i was thinking of joining them if only someone would explain what thw whole temperature thing is. i did sign up to the june babies thread.... but made a bit of an idiot of myself by asking what CD meant .

i am ttc number 2. like littlemiss and stillstanding, we conceived v dd v quickly and never really ttc'd. i guess thats a real blessing. AF was due yesterday but have done four or five tests and all neg - just want my period to come now so i get nearer my next ovulating dates.

34 not old! dont say that -- i'm not too far off... and rislip at 12 friends pregnant. i dont think i even have 12 friends. chin up. it'll be you (us!) soon

Claire236 · 16/09/2008 20:22

I want to join, the other ttc threads are far too scary for me. Like a foreign language. I found out I was pregnant with ds 3 weeks after coming off the mini pill. Now ttc number 2. Came off mini pill 4 weeks ago & no sign of period so no idea when or even if I'm ovulating. Getting a bit twitchy now & struggling to resist the temptation to do a pregnancy test every week just in case.

littlemissmischief · 16/09/2008 20:24

Tyaca - I have no idea what a Luteal length is so your not the only one and the whole temp thing has got me stumped too! Although I might be tempted to try it if this month is not my month (although im sure it is vibes)Im on the June thread too and believe me I have asked so many stupid questions but we are all in the same boat to start with so dont worry about come back and join us there too

Lol at the 12 friends thing - thinking about it dont think have 12 friends either

tyaca · 16/09/2008 20:44

ah, LMM - i know june's not happening for me. i have a small pile of neg tests to prove it. if we've going to be a thread, can we list ourselves but do it with a clueless twist and loads of made up acronyms ?

tyaca ttc no.2 CFL BQ 42oC and rising

stillstanding · 16/09/2008 21:31

LOL tyaca. Think i was following you until the cfl bq bit .... any clues for the clueless??!

stillstanding · 16/09/2008 21:33

Also have any of you tried the taking temperature route .... I am not quite sure how it all works but have seen those (rather expensive no?) kits at Boots and was thinking of getting one.

(See I really am that clueless!!)

dinkyboysmum · 16/09/2008 21:39

lol at this thread!

am also on june thread, but am clueless with my cycle, seem to have cycles between 28-42 days, came off pill 4 months ago. ds1 took 8 months of ttc. in the end i was neurotically temping, downing grapefruit juice, evening primrose oil and having reflexology. promised myself woudlnt go down that road again...turns out i've already gone down it & am half way back.

i know i can do it...my body has done it before. just dont know whay it's taking SO long, although i know it's not really 'that' long in respect of some peoples stories.

i too, seem to spend an unhealthy amount of time on here. Is the word 'addicted' to strong???

littlemissmischief · 16/09/2008 22:13

Im am sooo loving this thread, how great re we throwing cycles and acronyms to the wind!

Claire - welcome, I know it is so difficult not to test isnt it especially when you have no real dates to go by.

Tyaca - Will happily do a list the more random the better I say! Loving the made up codes

Stillstanding - Dont worry about not following if we all just make stuff upo and pretend we know what we are on about we will have everybody fooled! Not to sure about the temp thing but just know its the rise of temp in your body happens just after ovulation (or something like that)

Hey Dinkyboysmum - Good to see you [waves] I dont think addict is too strong I defo am, im on here every 5 mins to see if anyone has replied maybe we should start a group. stands up My name is LittleMiss and im an addict!

tyaca · 17/09/2008 08:32

morning.

stillstanding, i spent last night investigating the temp thing and am tempted to giive it a go, but only cause AF late right now so am becoming a bit nervous about dates and my cycle.

dinkyboy - lol, yup, well and truly addicted. MN is the crack-cocaine of internet forums . but significanly better for you.

tyaca · 17/09/2008 08:39

right. the billioneth test i took yesterday came out neg, being a bit of a slovenly type, i left it on the fridge. just found it and now it has an x in the preg bit. ????????? i am such a dumb ass - i just did the last test in the house and i did not have enough wee so i think i have just basically wasted it,

AnnasBananas · 17/09/2008 10:07

Ladies, I have been where you all are!! I spent 13 months TTC'ing my first dd in 2003-2004 just went at it randomly for the first six months then my BF suggested learning fertility awareness which was like a lightbulb going off over my head. Learnt it, followed it and conceived dd 7 months later. It took only 4 months using this method to conceive dd2. Now I'm using it in reverse as a contraceptive, ie natural family planning (don't laugh it does actually work!!)

The luteal phase is the second half of your cycle and is measured from ovulation until the first day of your period and (generally) is 12-16 days an average is 14 days. Luteal phase length can have a bearing on fertility as a short luteal phase (less than 10 days) can be an indicator of low levels of progesterone which can make it difficult for the fertilised egg to implant.

The whole charting/temping thing may seem like a road you don't wish to go down but it's not difficult, it's free and I always felt at least I'm doing something towards TTC while I was waiting for a referal to the RE, it turned out I didn't need it anyway. What you learn about your fertility is invaluable.

One recommendation I would make is the website Fertilityfriend.com it's brilliant and FREE. You can enter your temperatures each day and it will show you on a graph when you have ovulated and therefore when you should be most fertile next month. It uses many factors such as body temperature, cervical fluid, cervix position and you can even enter your OPK results on it as well. It's very clever. There is also a 'tutorial' on there you can click on it gives a very easy to understand lesson on your cycle and when you are most fertile.

In a nutshell, your temperature increases after ovulation and stays at this (slightly) higher rate until your period, so if you take your temp every morning you will clearly be able to see when you ovulated.

I am happy to answer any questions I am passionate about fertility awareness and natural family planning!!

AnnasBananas · 17/09/2008 10:10

By the way you don't have to buy an expensive kit, a basic digital oral thermometer is all you need to temp, then just either write it down on a piece of paper or enter into fertility friend...hey presto.

No such thing as a stupid question either when you are just trying to achieve your dream...

AnnasBananas · 17/09/2008 10:16

Here's the link, copy and paste it is the 'Charting Basic's tutorial and is very useful.

PCOS does not ever go away. This will need careful management as well as the endometriosis (as this can also recur).

As you have two diagnoses to date I would seek medical help from a gynae sooner rather than later.

rislip · 17/09/2008 11:36

I know 12 friends, I kid you not. Actually 11 friends and my sister in law. Who always swore not to have kids!!! Anyway, I'm glad to see there are others here who don't understand all the terminology on the other threads.

Thanks Annas....I will start doing the temp way too. I have this really long and terribly unpredictable cycle. If not TMI, I get a few days of spotting before my full on period always starts. This is only new so I wonder what the hell it means.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 17/09/2008 13:05

rislip

Any spotting between periods should be investigated further to ascertain the cause. Its often not serious (it may be cervical erosion).

littlemissmischief · 17/09/2008 13:14

Attila - It turned out I didnt have PCOS but they only discovered that about 2 years after first diagnosed and then discovered it was Endo. I suppose I was just silly really tothink if it happened first time with my DC1 it would happen naturally again, but think I will ask for help if this month is not my month either, thanks

AnnasBananas - Thanks for all the advice, you really know yous stuff, thanks for explaining the temp thing going to give that a try too I think! Anything that will help I suppose!

Tyaca - Could have been an evaporation line, you arent supposed to read them after a certain length of time for this reason. x
