Thanks Squack for all that information. You've really got me thinking - I hadn't realised that HE was so 'do-able' - my own perception of the work involved has put me off finding out more, but now I think I'll take the time to do some more thorough research. I've no idea what my local area - Shropshire - is like for HE support, so will definately look into that. I could also try to find out what my LEA has to say about it - and what the local process for de-registration is like. Dh will be when he comes home tonight! Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences.

Playingthewaitinggame · 22/05/2008 15:54

Also look at the HE threads on here happy, there is tons of info about de-registering, LEA visits/educational phils, supports groups, websites, books etc.

Squack · 22/05/2008 15:58

Ooh I think Shropshire is very active!

here is the link for the local group

Why not join, give a brief description, and then you can ascertain who is around you, we have people attending our groups things who don't have school-aged children but who are considering it.

It's like a trial run. If you like it and think it's viable then HE, if not then send 'em to school with the knowledge that you've had a little go and it isn't for you!

You've got nothing to lose esp as your not having to de-reg your child to do it iyswim.

Squack · 22/05/2008 16:01

Yes the HE threads on here are very good.

They do have a tendency to kick off though, be warned.

(only when those who are staunch non-HE'ers wade in though)

lardylumps · 22/05/2008 16:12

Will catch up in a while but just wanted to say.

Nat I am so happy for you. I just wish that the hospital could have treated you with more compassion and that you didn't have to go through it all in the first place. But I am over the moon that you and your bambino are doing well and that you are now back with us???.

Hi to everyone else I am going to catch up now?.

Playingthewaitinggame · 22/05/2008 16:17

yeah you're right squack it can get nasty but from my point of view I've actually found that helpful. I like hearing all the negative comments and the sterotypical comments and see how they are challenged and it actually makes you realise how stupid many comments are. Basically because many of those views I probably would have had till I investigated it more. I know its very hard for many who already HE to keep face the attacks of some who are very anti, but I think its good if you're considering it but are undecided. After all, you're likely to come across most of those arguments/questions in real life, or even have them yourself. I think the rich diversity of opinions of those threads in balance is a good thing, although on occasions really does go ott. Lets face it if you are already HEing there are much better support groups out there but if you are fishing for info I think its a good place to start, as long as you dont start a thread like "HE; do you think its better than school"

Squack · 22/05/2008 16:26

well said Playing.

I don't tend to go on there much now but aside from the polarised views of some, it was exceptionally helpful for the first few months.

I have a ttc question. I have been having the odd ovary twinge for 2 days, not much, but a twinge.

Yesterday I noticed I was getting a bit wetter and last night had some ewcm but not very stretchy. Today I have def ewcm, but I've checked my dates and I'm only cd10 today, don't normally O until cd17 at the very earliest!

Have pee'd on cb digi opk but no smiley face yet. Do you think this ignoring ttc is possibly going to result in earlier O?

should I start opk'ing early, like now, in case I miss it?

Playingthewaitinggame · 22/05/2008 16:44

I think it might do Squack (I am no expert) but I think you ov on the last day you see EWCM, so it may just be that you are going to get several days of it? It does suggest that you are going to ov earlier. I would def start opking earlier, doesn't the smilie face appear after you ov? I might be getting confused though as I don't use them!

Diege · 22/05/2008 16:52

Hellooo! Back from PO, and cafe with dds. Intersting stuff about the home ed Squack. Think I had some stereotypical views myself abiout Home Ed etc, (the usual) so it's good to be enlightened . BTW, maybe I can also be an honorary member of the OWLS as also trying for no.4! Ooh, sounds scary now!
Happy, just being nosey but wondered what you teach at A level? (apologies if I've asked before - is it psychology??) just curious as I'm an examiner for AQA (Sociology A level) and if you bung me a tenner I'll pass the lots of them . JOKE, if there are any AQA bosses lurking!!! . Re: af , time to get the choccies out I think Happy - sounds like you need a box from the wagon's supplied to cheer you up
Right, will have a proper read through and post again after I've done tea

lardylumps · 22/05/2008 17:00

Squack I got the wrong things. I got a 7 pack of clear blue ov test strips, not the fertility monitor. I saw the smiley face and just grabbed it. Oh well they will have to do as I paid £24 for them.

Need to read up on how to use them later as I am on CD3 already...

Glasham I am so sorry that you are going through this, I can not believe that someone would lie to you, what ever the lie was must of been important and to keep this from you is unacceptable... on the plus side bring on number 3 he he he

BB still no AF I hope

Moos you need a bloody medle CD71

Diege so good to have you back

NJ are you avoiding me??

Is there anyone else????? Oh yes "how you doing?"

lardylumps · 22/05/2008 17:01

squack they are digital test stips does that mean they are better??

Squack · 22/05/2008 17:17

I don't have the monitor LL I have the clearblue digital OPK thingy.
It costs about £23 quid and comes with 5-7 test sticks, I think.
The CB fertility monitor costs about £70!!

There are no replacement sticks for it though.....until I discovered the Persona ones work in it hehehe!

The smiley face tells you that you are about to Ovulate, otherwise you just get a blank circle.
Test with late afternoon wee, i do it about 6-8pm.

When to start during your cycle depends on how long your cycle is I think, but the instructions are quite good.

This month I think i'm going to start testing a bit earlier though because of the ewcm (just had to wipe again), have a mild crampy feeling so maybe it will be earlier this month.

Hope so .

Diege I'm sure they will welcome you. 4 is a bit daunting when I stop and think about it lol

Was planning to jump Dh tonight anyway

Diege · 22/05/2008 17:21

Hi LL! I am no expert, but are these the ovulation strips that don't 'go' with a monitor? Just thinking you might as well get yourself a persona monitor for £40 or so..having said that, the month I bought one I got pregnant! When will you start testing with them?

lardylumps · 22/05/2008 17:23

So I did get the correct thing then.... It is digital cb ov testing kit. And there are 7 sticks... Yay... CD3 and counting.

Question for you all. DP and I are looking to go away early July before the schools break up. Can you fly in early pg

Diege · 22/05/2008 17:23

Squack, I'm planning on a gof tonight too , although EWM has disappeared and I feel a bit 'thrush-y'...Boobs still v.sore, so for me that's an ov sign, so may surprise dh. he won;t know what's hit him 2 nights in the run!

Diege · 22/05/2008 17:25

Yes, you can fly up to 28 weeks no problem, then need note from drs if later/long haul I think? I flew at 36 weeks and neededa note. Twas onto the Scilley (sp?) Isles though but they still needed a note!

Moosma · 22/05/2008 17:28

Eeek, just realised the thread count, any titles ideas?

Squack · 22/05/2008 17:28

Ooh LL wait until you see the I bet you get dead excited!

I've got a persona too and the egg sign will get a smile out of me but the smiley face of the cb digi makes me lol all excitedly

lardylumps · 22/05/2008 17:29

There are 7 tests and I think I ov on the 11th last month so will probably start using them on CD8 does that sound ok. Then they will last until CD15.

Moosma · 22/05/2008 17:33

Squack, I'm voting for you to do a new thread, you've done one before (but no typos this time )

Only 5 posts left!

Diege · 22/05/2008 17:50

CD8 is perfect LL . ooh only 4 posts left...come on squack, before the wagon breaks down!!!!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 22/05/2008 18:07

LL no way am I avoiding you!!! Did it seem like it? Sorry sweetie Thank you for your good wishes, all very much appreciated

Home Ed. always been one of those things I would have liked to have looked into, but never got round to doing it. I think if we had a good social network outside of school for the kid/s I would have taken it a bit more seriously, especially because although DS1 loves his school, I am not so happy with it, but if we didn't have the school I would literally not speak to anyone face to face for days on end, well except DH and the kids obviously!

If there isn't a new thread posted by the time I have sent this, I'll sort it
