Bad cramping 4 weeks pregnant

Hi girls
I found out I was pregnant last week and I have been cramping on and off since. Today I am 4 weeks 5 days pregnant and since last night the cramping has been really painful and intense. I thought this morning it would calm down but it's still awful.

It's too early for the doctors to do anything so I just wanted to see if anyone had experience the same?

I do also have advanced endometriosis and I had a laparoscopy end of October to help with fertility (and luckily I got pregnant after this)

I'm just finding this really overwhelming and hard. I've not had any spotting or blood, but every time I go to the toilet I'm worried it will be there.

Any advice would be amazing thank you :)

Unfortunately, before 5 weeks a lot of places won't bother even seeing you, even before 6 weeks is a push I've found.
The great news is that you've not got any bleeding.
However normally if its very painful the outcome isn't very good.
Some cramps are normal, especially on and off in those first handful of weeks of finding out,
Fingers crossed for you xxx

Hi @tinybabydancer congratulations firstly! Hope you have a safe and healthy pregnancy ❤️
I just found out yesterday I’m pregnant, I think I’m around 4 weeks. I am also experiencing cramping, not so bad today but really sore yesterday. I’m hoping it’s normal cramping for us both 🤞🏻 x

AudreyJL · 28/01/2025 17:49

Are your cramps period-like? I had period-like cramps with my first all throughout my first trimester and I just found out I'm expecting my second (4 weeks tomorrow roughly) and period-like cramps like AF is about to come on.

Irishgal1987 · 28/01/2025 17:59

@AudreyJL aw congratulations 😊 yeah they definitely feel period like, quite intense at times. I’m bloated too. Hoping it’s all very normal. We are still very very early.

heroinechic · 28/01/2025 18:02

The cramping was really uncomfortable in my first (viable) pregnancy for weeks! I was using a hot water bottle etc. The advice I received was as long as the pain wasn't one sided, severe or accompanied by bleeding it was normal x

Congratulations to you as well! I just found out yesterday as well. Do you know your estimated due date? I'm very bloating as well, which can hurt at times. With my first, I remember asking my midwife about it at my 8week appointment and she said it's normal as it's the uterus expanding. So I'm trying not to worry about my cramps now despite it feeling like my period is about to start.

Irishgal1987 · 28/01/2025 19:30

@heroinechic ah thank-you for this info. Makes me feel a little less anxious about it.
@AudreyJL thank-you! It said 6th Oct, what about you? That’s good, it’s so hard to remember the appointments and conversations first time around. Feels like a fever dream haha.

8th Oct for me ☺️☺️ have you contacted your GP?

tinybabydancer · 28/01/2025 20:08

Thanks everyone and congratulations!!!
The cramping has definitely calmed down this evening but it's still there for sure. Currently sat with my heated blanket. This afternoon I was convinced I was about to lose it as it got pretty intense. I'm going to see how I get on over the next few days and call the doctor when I make it to 5 weeks if it's still bad. It's so scary as I also feel like I'm about to bleed any second! I'm also taking cyclogest and I did read online that can cause some cramping too. It's a minefield!!!!

@AudreyJL Amazing! I had said to my husband before how I would love a wee autumn baby, so strange! No we don’t need to contact our GP here, you self-refer to the midwife’s and they contact you when it’s time. Do you?
@tinybabydancer it is a complete minefield! Another waiting game just. When are you due?

I believe I will have to ring my GP and book an appointment for around 8 weeks. Is this your first?

Glad to hear your cramps have calmed down. Hope it won’t be too bad from here on

Anothermathstutor · 28/01/2025 20:44

I had awful cramps and assumed period was coming (also endo and my pain is always severe). When I found out I was pregnant the cramps didn’t stop but I found out they were normal which helped ease it.

That little cramp is 6 months currently sleeping in his big boy room.

tinybabydancer · 28/01/2025 21:29

Thank you @AudreyJL hope you are feeling okay ❤️

That's so good to hear @Anothermathstutor! I have heard it can be really bad when you have endo so hoping it's that! Thank you.

It's just such an anxious time isn't it so thank you everyone I appreciate it. Let me know how you're all feeling tomorrow 🥰 my app thinks my due date is 2nd Oct xx

Thank you. I am feeling alright, besides the intense bloat which feels like my skin is stretching. Looks like we all have very close estimated due dates. Would be great to keep in touch to see how we all get on.

Irishgal1987 · 29/01/2025 06:33

@AudreyJL no this is my second. I have a 20mo girl. Is this your second? It’s mad how you forget all of the early pregnancy symptoms!
@Anothermathstutor thank-you for the reassurance, hoping all will be ok 🤞🏻
@tinybabydancer such an anxious time and nobody knows usually that you are feeling rotten until 12 weeks haha.

tinybabydancer · 29/01/2025 10:42

Morning all! I'm feeling a touch better but still cramping a lot. Luckily I am working from home today. Still feeling really anxious tbh but also there's nothing else I can do! The cramping sometimes is more on the right and then is in the middle too. It's not as bad as yesterday but still pretty noticeable!
This is my first and I had a miscarriage around this time last year so really hoping all will be okay ❤️

@tinybabydancer thats brilliant you are feeling better. It probably makes sense to have a bit of cramping at this stage. Mine definitely aren’t as intense now either. Still feeling bloated which isn’t great considering I’m getting married in a couple of weeks 🙈
I had a miscarriage around 5/6 weeks before I had my first baby so I’m sending all the positivity your way!

tinybabydancer · 29/01/2025 13:05

@Irishgal1987 aww wow congratulations on your wedding that is so exciting!
Bloating is so annoying isn't it. I find it get it really bad having endo as well ;(
Glad you're feeling better! My cramps are coming and going a bit more now and so much better so I've no idea what yesterday was about. I do have to go for an earlier scan around 6 weeks to check it's not ectopic after my surgery so fingers crossed it will be okay!!!
It's great we all have this group to chat too xx

Ah you're getting married soon! Advanced congratulations! The bloating is bad for me too. And yes, my second. My first is a little girl who is 3.5 years old and told me this morning she wants a real baby sister and not a toy one haha

@tinybabydancer @AudreyJL thanks so much ladies. Timing is perfect eh haha. I feel very very lucky though.
Hope your scan goes ok! Are there symptoms for ectopic pregnancies?
Aw the wee dote, she will be soooo excited when you reveal the secret 🥰

Irishgal1987 · 29/01/2025 14:52

I’m not too bad. How are you?
Tired and bloated just. A bubbling feeling with odd cramps. Horrible taste in my mouth and dizzy. What about you?

heroinechic · 29/01/2025 15:34

@Irishgal1987 hey I saw you asked about symptoms for ectopic pregnancies so thought I'd add my experience. I had a small amount of brown bleeding for a few days around 4/5 weeks but wrote it off as implantation bleeding.

A few weeks later (around 7 weeks) I started to have pain on my right side, which was worse if I hunched over at all (think, putting socks on, tying laces etc). As the days went by it got worse and then I started to develop a shooting pain which felt like it was in my bum. I did actually take another pregnancy test and it was faint but there. It was my first pregnancy so I didn't realise that it should have been a strong line by that point! I just thought a line is a line.

By 7+4 I couldn't really stand up straight, or walk without pain. The brown bleeding returned. I went to the EPU for a scan and they found no pregnancy in my uterus, but a "mass" near my ovary in my tube. My HCG levels were measured and were low, I also didn't appear to have any internal bleeding and so they decided to take a "watch and wait" approach where I went in every 48 hours to see what my HCG levels were doing. That night I started bleeding heavily.

It was pretty shit but the saving grace of it all was that it was "resolving itself" and so I didn't need surgery to remove the tube.

I conceived my DD a couple of months later, and am currently pregnant again with a DS. I had one sided pain in both viable pregnancies that followed but it was a different kind of pain and didn't worsen when bending. I think it's just down to a cyst that forms on the ovary you ovulated from to produce progesterone. I also get ovulation pain now which I never had before!
