Lou How are you feeling today hun?
Mummy2Olivia So sorry to hear you have "crap sperm" problems too, will keep everything crossed for next time for you

Well I did another test this morning more of a definate line, still faint but still feel I need further confirmation, slowly going out of my mind!

emma2617 · 02/07/2008 15:39

Mollie I have everything crossed for you!! I know the long wait from a faint faint line to a proper BFP!! I really hope it happens this time!!

I have become a serial tester...5 yesterday and another 2 today!! And I will probably test again when I get in from work!!

I am hanging fire from the graduates list until I have seen the nurse tomorrow!

How is everybody today?!

beaniesteve · 02/07/2008 15:47

I tested agian this morning - PFN. Still no period. Am guessing this is going to be one of those months where I go over my usual regular 24 day cycle for no reason.

HopingCat · 02/07/2008 16:18

Congratulations on the BFPs!

Well, I finally decided on Monday that I couldn?t wait any longer and had to test. I?d ordered some HPTs off internet, and when they arrived I threw them in drawer without opening so that I wasn?t tempted to test too soon. So on Monday I opened the jiffy bag and a black thing fell out. My first thought was ?I?ve never seen a test like that before, I wonder how it works? and then my brain clicked in. Turns out it was a USB cable that DH had ordered! Good job I?d not weed on that!

Thankfully, HPTs arrived yesterday, so I tested and got a very very faint BFP! AF is due today so I?m going to wait a few more days then test again to see if line is still there. This is same as happened with dd. I never got more than a faint line with her, but she is 20 months old now so I?m a firm believer in faint positives being real positives. Not added myself to graduate list yet but will if I get another BFP later in week. Can?t really believe it?s happening to be honest!

So come on. Who's next?!!

emma2617 · 02/07/2008 16:22

Wow HC the BFPs are rolling in now!! Fingers crossed for the re-test!! I had to wait 2.5 weeks for my 2nd BFP...hope yours is quicker!!!!!!!

And I just laughed out loud at work about the USB cable...how funny!!!

mrsfossil · 02/07/2008 18:53

Big congratulations to Emma and Hopingcat, so pleased to here the BFPs rolling in! A faint positive is still a BFP!!!!!!!

I'm starting IUI this month and for the first time in 4 years I actually want af to appear so I can start the clomid and book up the appointments, etc and get the ball rolling. Day 29 and no af.

would be great if I got a BFP now as it would save us a few hundred quid as the IUI is private

mummy2olivia · 02/07/2008 19:47

Thanks guys!!

I shouldnt be so harsh about DHs spermies really- he has a mega high count (117million per ml ) and good motility and volume, it was just the 6 % morphology that was a bit shite.

Can I ask some expert opinions though? posted this on the MC thread and had never really thought about it before...

We got married dec 2007, we spent all of november at hen/stag parties, meals and wine tastings and had a VERY VERY boozy month. In december DH got so smashed at our wedding that he passed out and then we went on honeymoon and got very drunk there. Then Christmas, where we drank more again. Then new year. Nuff said. Then in early Jan DH had a sperm analsis done. This is the only one he has had done and the results were as above, it was only the morphology that was poor. Although clinic said it was a good result because the number of sperm made up for the low morphology. Anyway, after the result DH had a kick up the bum, no drink, lots of vits and lots of water and no social smoking. By end of march I was up the duff Do you think there is a link? Can the drinking he did leading up to the test affect the results? I hope that this is the case and this shows that if he continues with the healthy lifestyle, we CAN do it again.

discuss

blackrock · 02/07/2008 20:15

I don't know much, but do know that male sperm is produced daily, but don't know how long it lives inside a man?

I remember reading something about men's health and wellbeing and sperm quality and know they need high levels of antioxidants e.g tomatoes, in their diet. Smoking does effect sperm quality and drinking increases the amount of time it takes to conceive, but unsure of the science!

Having said that, alcohol was behind the BD that led to DS and i am sure i am not the first.

HC super news!

beaniesteve · 02/07/2008 20:15

My OH is goint get his sperm tested. I'm scared but I know it's the right thing to do. What should I/he expect?

Went to get the results of my scan and it appears I may have a blockage in my ureta (sp) which takes fluid from the kidneys to the bladder so I have been referred to a urologist. Not a fertility thing.

Have also been told that at 38 I can have tests (beyond the scan and blood tests) but I am too old to be offered fertility treatment (IVF?) on the NHS, so here's hoping that there's nothing wrong with me.

mummy2olivia · 02/07/2008 20:21

Beaniesteve, the only advice I have is don't look anything up on the internet if he gets dodgy results. Get zita wests book and follow her advice.

QueenyEisGotTheBall · 02/07/2008 21:14

hi ladies
just a quick one to say HC congrats on the BFP good luck for the next one and for graduating
hi to everyone else

mrsfossil · 02/07/2008 21:15

After looking through all the papers I got from the hospital it said that it takes 10 days for sperm to mature and that alcohol will affect it, especially a weekend binge. The doc told us that women who drink regulary throughout the month take longer to concieve (on average).

Having said that me and dh are sure that our 7 yearold ds has concieved after a v.drunken party

good luck with all the tests/results beaniesteve Sorry that you can't get a go on NHS 38 shouldn't be classed as too old

beaniesteve · 03/07/2008 07:34

Hi peeps,

Welcome Dawn ask away!

Feeling a little better today...
I went to the hospital yesterday, and saw the gynae. It was really useful, apart from me getting told off for DH not having done his sperm test yet! He is doing it tomorrow or else!
So, they have finally decided to treat me for an underactive thyroid. I have been 'borderline' for years, but now they are going to put me on thyroxine. So thats one good thing.
I am also being sent for a pelvic scan(?) to check my fallopian tubes are open and okay. Going to research this a bit today as I dont know anything about it.
The nurse was lovely, and let me have a cry. I kept having horrible flashbacks to the miscarriage yesterday, just glad July 2nd is out of the way now.
They know I am definitely ovulating and my other hormone levels are really good. So that is positive too.

Hope everyone is okay, will try and be less me me me now!
xxxxxxx

DawnAS · 03/07/2008 10:05

Hi there,

Thanks so much for this! Although I may be a little "me me me" for this message , apologies in advance.

So, I'm 34 (last week) and got married 3 months ago after waiting since the age of 18 to find Mr Right. Now we've decided to try for a baby. I came off of the pill "Dianette" just before the wedding and have already had two (fairly normal) cycles, although they are 35 days, not 28. I did have a break for 6 months a couple of years ago and the cycles were regular then too.

When I decide to do something, I'm not very patient so I tried the Ovulation Kits (I'm sure there's an acronym...) but only in the last week. But I think I tried them too early as my cycle isn't due for 3 weeks (I told you I was a complete novice ). Also did the Female Fertility Test which was fine, no issues there.

So, hubby and I doing the deed every night at the moment (also recall mentioning I was impatient ) and really just want to know if I'm doing everything I possibly can?

Any advice? Suggestions? Because of my age, I don't want to wait the full year, so I'm thinking of stretching the truth a little with the doc if nothing's happened in 3 or 4 months. . Just to see if I can get checked.

Can you sense the paranoia yet?!!

I'm really sorry about your experience loustillwantsaBFPtoo. It sounds like all your signs are good now so fingers crossed for you and at least they're helping you!!

xxxx

MollieMooma · 03/07/2008 10:33

HC Congratulations LOL at peeing on USB though, left me with a lovely image!
MrsF Good luck with IUI but really hope you get a BFP before you start. Then you can spend the money on baby things
Mummy2OliveiaAlcohol isn't meant to be good for sperm but as to how much and how long a period drinking - who knows, there is so much different research out there. In my job I see some varied kinds of people, lots with drug and alochol addiction and they never seem to have a problem conceiving!! Go figure Wishing you lots of luck though
Beanie 38 too old Why oh why is fertility such a posctode lottery, it is so unfair! Now your 3 days late are you going to test? Go on you know you want too!
Lou Glad to hear your feeling a bit better, at least your u/active thryroid has been diagnosed. Don't feel your post before was all me me me, your allowed we all are when we're feeling down. Hope your rushing out to the shops today to buy visual stimulus for DH
Dawn Welcome, Feel free to ask away, we'll tell you what we know.
If your not sure when you OV in your cycle I decided to test with OPK's from CD10/11 onwards to try and pinpoint it. You can also do temping, there are a few threads on here that can help or google it. You can obviously monitor your CM, EWCM is a good sign of OV and also checking your cervix, but dont' ask me how!

Well I'm going to buy a digital test today to get final confirmation of my faint BFP, feeling a bit more convinced today and still no AF so that's always a good sign!!

DawnAS · 03/07/2008 11:10

MollieMooma - thanks so much for your advice and I'm keeping everything crossed for your test today - well not everything, otherwise I'll never get anywhere!!
xx

emma2617 · 03/07/2008 11:25

Mollie I am hoping you get that "Pregnant" when you do the digital test!!

I have done about 12 tests so far since i got my faint BFP exactly a week ago...fortunately all of them positive!! I was with the nurse for my follow up HCG blood tests which I will get the results for on Tuesday! The results were back from the first round and my HCG levels were 29 last thursday (boarderline as I was probably VERY early on!!) so we are just looking for that lovely rapid rise when I get the next lot of results on Tuesday!!!

Lou Glad you are feeling more positive today! At least things seem to be moving forward and the stupid NHS are actually doing something now.

Hope everyone else is doing good today!

beaniesteve · 03/07/2008 11:27

Moolie I have tested - 3 times (on three different days) all negative. Though according to the list I am only one day late so I am not sure how I have confused myself.

Was in bed last night imagining 'what if' but I feel like I am being silly. I've done this before and ended up getting my period anyway.

Dawn - welcome

loustillwantsaBFPtoo · 03/07/2008 11:39

hope i got the list right!?
Sorry if not beanie!
Lou xx

beaniesteve · 03/07/2008 11:41

no - lou - I counted back and you got it right. I think I had put 7th down as the first day of my period on fertility friend and 8th on here. I forget when it was.

loustillwantsaBFPtoo · 03/07/2008 11:43

okay glad my brain is not exploding today!
