if you are still awaiting the arrival of your period ( or af as some of you insist on calling it) there is NO way of knowing you are up the duff. all so called early pregnancy symtoms are pretty much the same as being premenstral.

crampy draggy feelings - tick
change in mucus - tick
nausea and light headedness - tick
bubbly feelings - you have wind

i could go on. i am not being mean but i would like to share my experiences over the past couple of years.

just wait and see!

the wait and see bit is the really really hard bit!

SheherazadetheGoat · 19/03/2008 09:16

it is just crazy. i am on day 21 you wouldn't think waiting a week would be such a big deal. but this month i am determined not to have the crazyness and will stamp on other peoples crazyness.

yes you are so right

add to your list:

bloated tummy - tick
needing to pee more often - tick

this month I will be patient, keep myself busy and wait calmly until my period is actually late (fingers crossed)....

Mercy · 19/03/2008 09:33

And another one

sore breasts - tick

SquonkForgotHerEasterName · 19/03/2008 09:33

add to the list:

feeling... um... err.... different

SheherazadetheGoat · 19/03/2008 09:37

oh - and my personal favourite

bleeding!

until i came on mumsnet and dicovered implanation bleeding and could blissfully draw a line under getting my period but now it is all 'oh its quite light could it be implantation?' no its my sodding period.

FAQ · 19/03/2008 09:39

well I "knew" I was pg with all 3 of mine (yes even the 2 unplanned ones) before AF arrived - so nerrr

SquonkForgotHerEasterName · 19/03/2008 09:40

FAQ - did you know at any other times?

belgo · 19/03/2008 09:41

I always have less symptoms in the months that I'm not pregnant then in the months that I am!

I think early pregancy tests are a total con .

FAQ · 19/03/2008 09:42

ermm no - but then I only tried to get pg once - and that happened first month of trying.....

Tatties · 19/03/2008 09:46

I had a metallic taste in my mouth the week before my period one month, never ever had this before and I was convinced I was pg

I am interested that other people get nausea, I suffer with this and it is horrid. My doc didn't seem to think it was hormonal though

SquonkForgotHerEasterName · 19/03/2008 09:47

When I am pg, beer tastes like vinegar.

Tis amusing when we're in a pub and the beer really has gone off

SheherazadetheGoat · 19/03/2008 09:49

i get the metallic thing loads!

really helpful faq.

Out of interest. How many people here have had a positive pregnancy test and been completely shocked? I assume that although we all seem to go from month to month with all the 'signs', there are times when people are pregnant but just have no clues or indications that they are?

jazzandh · 19/03/2008 10:04

I read a website that said that any pregnancy signs before 4/5 weeks were due to normal hormones in the body rather than the HCg (?) Hence the confusion with pms. Hcg has to build up to much higher levels to have any effect. This is also obviously why in so many cases "early" pregnancy tests are just a waste of time (and why we all live in hope that 2 dayds later there will be a BFP!)

It would be interesting to see how many people who test positive on an early test have the stronger symptoms..

SquonkForgotHerEasterName · 19/03/2008 10:08

beaniesteve - we assumed that my dp couldn't have kids. He and his ex-wife had tried for a few years with nothing, then we had been trying for about two years and had nothing.

I had all the symptoms, but of course I couldnt' be pg, as he couldn't have kids!

In the end, I did a test just to prove to the doc that it was negative when I went to tell him I was convinced I was about to die of some horrible disease.

That'll teach us to assume that dp can't have kids.

Three pgs later...

lissielouwithbunnyears · 19/03/2008 10:11

and the only way to tell if you are pg is to do a hpt. (i know i can hardly talk)

and its not fecking auntie flow its a period. aunties give you sweets, not fecking mood swings and cramps!

Eleveld · 19/03/2008 10:54

Not sure there's any need for the snide comments.

We're all adults here, in the same boat, let's try and be helpful instead

SquonkForgotHerEasterName · 19/03/2008 10:55

eh?

FAQ · 19/03/2008 10:57

I reckon it was the "really helpful FAQ" comment....

and FWIW - you're welcome

SquonkForgotHerEasterName · 19/03/2008 10:59

well I must be missing the bit where we were asked to be helpful.

lissielouwithbunnyears · 19/03/2008 11:00

me too. no snide comments as far as i can see...

pucca · 19/03/2008 11:02

You know what, the 2 times i really didn't think i was pg...i WAS! before that while ttc-ing, every month i would think " i am pg".

beaniesteve · 19/03/2008 11:02

Well.... I have to say that in 6 cycles of trying I have only got really excited twice. On the first month when my period was late and last month when I had some very strange signs. I then had a 10 day period so I wondered if perhaps I just had a chemical pregnancy.

Anyway - this month I have done a pregnancy test and it has come back negative so any of the signs I thought I might have (there weren't many) are probably not worth commenting on.

I agree that AF and Auntie Flo is a bit of a twee way of saying it, which is why I use period, but I'm not about to go dictating to people what they choose to use tbh.

Anyway - just wish this period would show itself so I can get on with it.
