I had DS when I was 39 (no problems conceiving--got pregnant second month we tried). Until recently, I've felt ambivalent about a second child. But right now am feeling mega-broody!

Is it,as mentioned before, we also only just made the decision to have a go at it...., but I was still thinking august??? Have also been thinking about school etc,....

Arabica · 24/12/2004 17:15

I used an online due-date calculator & that's what I got! Oh well, if it's happened I will just have to live with it. It's not the end of the world.

Have just found out (as MIL is here for Christmas and we got talking about families, as you do) that my DH's maternal grandmother had his mother (my MIL - still with me?!) at 38 then her sister (my DH's aunt) at 41 - and this was back in the late 1930s!!!!!

There's hope for us all!!!

aloha · 27/12/2004 15:56

Well, naturally people had babies in their forties in the past - we haven't changed our essential biology and lots of people are naturally fertile into their forties (like me!) - in fact one study showed that 70% of women are still fertile at 40. Before reliable contraception having 'late' babies would have been unavoidable for many whether they wanted it or not. BTW Susan Sarandon had her two sons at 43 and 46.

DecafArabica · 05/01/2005 12:37

As you can see, I have had to change my name!!! Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Congrats to you. Read this thread with interest before.

DecafArabica · 05/01/2005 12:49

Thanks for all your lovely messages. I don't feel pregnant yet but I guess I will soon. I just feel soooooooooo happy. And it's great to have somewhere to talk about it--I don't want to reveal my news to the wider world until I have had my 13 wk scan.

Surfermum · 05/01/2005 12:51

Congratulations!

hester · 05/01/2005 13:31

No! I don't believe it! - you barely had time to get into bed

Huge congrats Arabica - gives your fellow oldies a lot of hope. May you have a wonderful pregnancy.

Have you worked out your due date yet?

Kayleigh · 05/01/2005 13:32

aloha · 05/01/2005 17:24

Ooh, if we win the Lottery I could have another one!

Flossam · 05/01/2005 17:33

Ohhh, congratulations that was quick! So do you know what you EDD will be yet?! Were you right for mid Sept? x

Canadianmom · 05/01/2005 17:58

Yipee! Proving that you must not be too old at all. Congratulations. Wishing you a happy, healthy pregnancy!

DecafArabica · 05/01/2005 20:22

I think my EDD is 16 Sept, but will be finding out more tomorrow when I visit the nurse at my GP's surgery for a repeat test and probably a lecture on age-related Downs risks (it's that kind of a surgery).

hoxtonchick · 05/01/2005 20:23

wow, brilliant news! will i see you hanging around the homerton...?!

JanH · 05/01/2005 20:26

Oh, well done, you older mother, you!

Do you know I saw the start of your thread and didn't comment because I thought well, she'll be umming and erring for months...

Incidentally I was nearly 42 when DS2 was born and I had no lectures to speak of (and that was 11 years ago) and, apart from feeling like deth between weeks 6-13ish, felt fantastic throughout.

marinda · 05/01/2005 20:40

Wow Arabia - you put me to shame. I am 38 and been TTC for 6 months withno such luck. May I ask were you actively trying or did it "just happen"?.
Can you offer any advice on tactics please !

PS ; Good Luck !!!!!!!

aloha · 05/01/2005 20:50

At 37 it took me about five months or so to conceive - at 40 it took me, oooh, about ten minutes? And I mean that literally
