Broody at 43--am I bonkers?

I had DS when I was 39 (no problems conceiving--got pregnant second month we tried). Until recently, I've felt ambivalent about a second child. But right now am feeling mega-broody!

congratulations decaf + partner! hope you're feeling well.

DecafArabica · 07/01/2005 14:00

I've always been a big fan of Boots. They were my favourite shoplifting venue as a wayward teenager (well, them and Woolworths) Yes, feel much better, although at the moment, Aloha, the thought of eating chocolate is making me feel sick! So I must surely be preggers...I am going to save the other test in the packet for the morning I go to the nurse and if it's positive and the nurse's test isn't, I will whip it out my bag and shove it up her ass (she wasn't the least bit empathic yesterday).

posyhairdresser · 07/01/2005 15:23

Hurrah!

aloha · 07/01/2005 15:26

Ah yes, the desire to commit random acts of violence sound like pregnancy to me sorry about the chocolate. How ghastly for you. I always think I'm not a real pregnant person because I don't have any cravings/aversions etc.

Canadianmom · 07/01/2005 16:43

I am so pleased for you! Yipee! Make sure you tell us all about the next encounter with the nurse...Back to wishing you a happy, healthy pregnancy.
May this be your only glitch with the health care system and health issues all together; better to get it over with early.

DecafArabica · 07/01/2005 19:23

I feel really sick today and it isn't just because I was forced to watch a Barney video whilst DS got his hair cut in the posh kids' hairdressers with a telly. Aloha did you escape nausea too, or was it just food stuff you missed out on?

aloha · 07/01/2005 19:24

Sorry, never sick, both times. Though I had a v fleeting moment of nausea half way through a fishcake just before I tested.

iota · 07/01/2005 19:26

Hey decaf - I was only a mere 42 when I had ds2 - you will beat me.

I had no sickness at all with ds1 or 2 nor food cravings or aversions. Hope you have a lovely pregnancy

DecafArabica · 07/01/2005 19:28

I was never actually sick last time, just nausea and slight dizziness, expecially when on the bus (which isn't good as I don't drive, so DS and I do a lot of bus journeys)

DecafArabica · 07/01/2005 19:29

Aloha do you normally eat fishcakes in the loo?

aloha · 07/01/2005 19:54

Ha! The two events weren't quite that close together.

Tinker · 07/01/2005 20:05

Congratulations and welcome to the older pregnant women's club . I don't get cravings either and only had nausea at the beginning, never sick.

DecafArabica · 07/01/2005 22:12

Yes, I wonder how many others there are on the site?

Bradybunches · 09/01/2005 15:27

I am older (40 this month) and due in august 2005. Although I feel miserable today after getting some spotting! Think I was wrong to be so excited so early on, trying to calm myself down and not raise my hopes too high..... all the best to other mature maters .

DecafArabica · 09/01/2005 17:02

I had spotting when I was about 9 weeks pregnant with DS, and had to have an early scan (all was fine--it's quite common, apparently). So if you're worried, ring NHS direct. Good luck.

DecafArabica · 09/01/2005 17:05

I know what you mean about getting hopes up though--I keep getting twinges and although I know they're completely normal, I still won't truly believe I am really pregnant until I have a positive test at the doctors' surgery and even then I still won't believe it until I have had my scan.

aloha · 09/01/2005 17:22

I had spotting and some full on bleeding until I was at least 12 weeks. I'm still very much pregnant at 36 weeks! Baby now due Feb 7th. I'm 41.

Bradybunches · 09/01/2005 20:36

thanks for reassurance aloha and decafarabica. I'm like you decafA, I won't really believe all's well until my first proper scan. Wow aloha that is really soon, so excited for you.

aloha · 09/01/2005 20:45

Are you six weeks yet? If you are you could pop along to your local Early Pregnancy Unit in hospital and get a scan. I found this reassuring - had one at six and eight weeks. Just to see a bean with a heartbeat was wonderful.

aloha · 09/01/2005 20:46

And yes it is soon, isn't it? Gulp!

Lovely to read your story Christie.
Thanks aloha, I'm almost 9 weeks I think, but will call the midwife the gp gave me as a contact to see where my nearest epu is. Still spotting but good to know how common it seems to be.

DecafArabica · 10/01/2005 10:26

Christie, I hope I get a medical team as positive as yours, but am not holding out much hope! I felt the same way about DS and his milestones; the only thing I wish he'd hurry up and move on with is getting his pooing habits sorted. Bradybunches, good luck with the epu, I had an early scan with DS and was rewarded by a clear pic of a little bean leaping around like a maniac.

hester · 10/01/2005 10:30

I'm 40 and ttc and I LOVE this thread. Thanks all for sharing your success stories!

welshmum · 10/01/2005 10:43

Late to this but big congrats Decaf, as I said earlier on here I'm 41 and due to have no.2 at the beginning of June. I feel much more confident this time around.
Bradybunches I also had a bit of spotting last week (at 18 weeks) had a check but baby fine. I had spotting right the way through with dd and she is a very lovely 2 3/4 now.All the best
