Around 12dpo BFN- anyone advice?

Peach56 · 17/08/2023 20:46

Sorry if this is a repeat post but I'm struggling with the symptoms and subsequent BFN.

I'm nauseated, cramping on and off, have under arm pain and intermittent headaches. Frequent mood swings. Slight spotting today. It's a rubbish roller coaster to feel all of this then get a negative test.

Is there anyone else out there going through the same rn? Does progesterone cause this?

It's not normal for me to have these symptoms prior to ttc. I use an app at the moment and am going to try OPK tests next month.

Need some advice for how to manage this every month. It's our 2nd month trying. Can't say I'm obsessing over symptoms all the time but pain and sickness is pretty hard to ignore!

Any advice?

@XenaTheWarriorPrincess - thank you! Yes I totally agree, I just need to wait and see what happens now. What will be will be!
Congrats on your BFP!

@Peach56 your app could have been wrong, could have ovulated earlier ir later than it think you did. My ovulation date changes from month to month and my luteal phase is only 12 days. So flo was unknowingly oretty useles before i started tracking 😅

I do track but just with lh strips, I don't temp. I also get very obvious ov pains.

Even if the app wasn't wrong, it takes different people different amounts of time to get enough hcg in their system. We all have different levels of base hcg (between 1-5 for most but can be under 1) and implantation can happen between 6-12 dpo. Also, not everyone doubles hcg in 48 hours (36-72 hours is considered normal I believe).

So it's entirely normal to be pregnant with a bfn at 12dpo. Say you implanted on 8dpo (most common days are 8,9 and 10) and have a base beta hcg of 1 that doubles every 48 hours.

It would be 14/15dpo before a sensitive test (10miu) showed even a faint positive.

That's why you're not out until AF shows. Some get early positives and some have to wait a while, all perfectly normal. I'd say that if your period is late, that's the sign to test again.

@XenaTheWarriorPrincess ah that makes sense! As daft as it might sound if never thought of it that way. In that case I guess I might not be out yet, although I would be very surprised!

Thanks for keeping the faith alive. Felt awful all day, aching still there too and keep going to the toilet to see if it's started. Will aim to test on Monday if hasn't arrived and just keep busy.

Thank you for this thread. It's giving me hope. Been TTC #2 for about 4/ 5 months and at 39 I'm
Worried we have left it too late.
Currently 10DPO and had a BFN this morning - but still have that glimmer of hope that I just tested too early. Have had cramps for the last couple of days, and also have had a few dizzy spells yesterday and today. Also have felt really tired the last 2 days but not sure if I'm just clinging to every possible symptom I might feel! 😅 Have a big box of IC tests that I'll use each day and then am keeping my CB just in case I see a faint line at any point!
Its a rollercoaster of emotions isn't it!

Hi @JC084 its really hard, isn't it?

I'm taking the advice on here and I'm not going to test early again in future. Don't lose hope, you've still got time this month. 💐

I relate to the worry it might be too late, I've thought the same. But there's so many success stories out there too, I try to focus on that.

@Peach56 absolutely. Let's not lose hope... On that note, I need line eyes please. I did a test just now and was just expecting to get a BFN, but did it out of routine... and I think I have a very faint line 😳
Can anyone else see this or is it just me imagining things?

I can see something for sure!

My BBT has dropped off a cliff this morning so that’s me out, think AF will show up later today 😩

@Tryingtobepatient001 - hopefully you are still in, but if not, I know I always try to look at it as a chance to start fresh and go again x

@Peach56 thank you! Just been to the gym and now off home to try and keep busy I tip I can test again and check 🫣

Peach56 · 20/08/2023 11:03

@JC084 yes, keep busy! Do let us know how you get on?

I caved ladies. I have an extremely faint line on a clear blue early detection, proper squinter that doesn't show on photos.

Google tells me these tests aren't very reliable though. Not getting my hopes up.

OP posts:
XenaTheWarriorPrincess · 20/08/2023 12:39

@JC084 yep, that's a faint line and it is pulling very faint pink when edited (see attached below), so I'd say tentative congratulations!

Do another with fmu in two days (or tomorrow if you can't wait, but don't expect it to be stronger) to see if it gets more obvious.

@Peach56 I wouldn't trust a clearblue tbh unless its a proper obvious line, they're notorious for evaps and false positives. Maybe try with a pink dye test with fmu tomorrow? The boots early detection ones are supposed to be good.

Peach56 · 20/08/2023 17:37

Thanks @XenaTheWarriorPrincess I'm just taking that as a negative and have poured myself a glass of wine. I'm sure it would have been positive if I was.

Confusing what our bodies do, isn't it? Only time I've had discharge like yesterday was when I was pregnant with my son which was IB.

Wish period would just come so we can go again next month.

You’re right! I’ve had friends round and a couple of glasses of wine… here’s to the next month!
@Peach56 please keep us posted if you take a test tomorrow, I’m remaining positive for you! ❤️

I definitely think the line is getting darker. I'm 12dpo now. This is a good sign isn't it?

Peach56 · 21/08/2023 22:02

Just to update, AF came today.

Had some time to reflect and I'm feeling confused. On a normal cycle prior to TTC I never cramped or had any of the symptoms I've already described. It's like my body is trying.

The thing that gets me most is the IB and nausea. I only ever had that when I was pregnant with my son, never in a normal cycle, which makes me think that conception is happening but not sticking. Such a painful period right now too, like last month.

So worried it's a problem with my hormones causing early losses.

Have any of you been through this too?

My partner is pretty much cracking on with life regardless. If men went through all of this I suspect it would be bed rest for the majority of the month. 🙄

Hope you're all OK x

@Peach56 - thank you! Still scared to fully believe it but it's looking good so far. Tests this morning were darker and also did a clear blue which although not a dark line, still had a line ... so 🤞🏼🤞🏼
I've got a digital CB but I'm scared to use it in case it doesn't give me the result I want 🤦🏻‍♀️

Sorry to hear AF has arrived for you. I've been in this position the last two months. I was absolutely convinced I was pregnant last month. Had lots of symptoms I never have. I was so shocked when AF arrived as I really thought I was just waiting for a positive test. My periods have been pretty irregular the last 6 months or so and then last month it went back to my normal 28/29 days. I had just been tracking via a couple of apps and ovulation strips, but 2 months ago I bought the advanced clear blue digital ones and I swear this is what has helped us (hopefully) conceive. It took 2 cycles using them.

Oh no! 😔 I was really rooting for you too! Mines being weird this month, have come on today a day late and just feels different?! But then not sure if I’m just reading too much into everything??
Heres to a fresh cycle @Peach56 maybe we can be buddies as we’re pretty much in sync? X

@Tryingtobepatient001 @Peach56 - a fresh start and a new cycle. Thinking of you both!

I got this today so I think I can now finally admit I'm pregnant 🥰

@EvelynKatie thank you so much

XenaTheWarriorPrincess · 22/08/2023 15:56

@Peach56 so sorry to hear your AF came :(

It's possible you are conceiving but are having very early losses, its so incredibly common and is usually a chromosomal issue that occurs in totally healthy couples. So much of TTC is just pure luck unfortunately, so there's no evidence as of yet of something wrong.

Once you pass 12 months ttc (6 if over 35) you should be able to get some tests done that will give you more answers.

@JC084 oh that's wonderful! Also, snap! 😅 I'm now getting faint but very obvious lines on a 20miu test (first 13dpo v v faint positive was on a 10miu) and I just got my digital confirmation 😊 16dpo today

Hey how's everyone getting along? Sorry I had a pause on here as things have been so hectic and needed to clear my head.

@Peach56 hope you're doing ok.
Unfortunately no, I started bleeding last weekend at 5 weeks. Has been a tough week or so.
Am keeping positive and am hoping I can get back to tracking asap so we can keep trying.
Meant to have my first midwife appointment tomorrow - which annoyingly the doctors surgery wouldn't cancel when I spoke to them last week and so I have to call up again tomorrow and go through it all again with them 😢

Peach56 · 04/09/2023 22:10

Ah I'm so sorry @JC084 that's not what I hoped to hear. As hard as it will be, I hope that the midwife can offer you some reassurance tomorrow. So sorry. Big hugs.
