Around 12dpo BFN- anyone advice?

Peach56 · 17/08/2023 20:46

Sorry if this is a repeat post but I'm struggling with the symptoms and subsequent BFN.

I'm nauseated, cramping on and off, have under arm pain and intermittent headaches. Frequent mood swings. Slight spotting today. It's a rubbish roller coaster to feel all of this then get a negative test.

Is there anyone else out there going through the same rn? Does progesterone cause this?

It's not normal for me to have these symptoms prior to ttc. I use an app at the moment and am going to try OPK tests next month.

Need some advice for how to manage this every month. It's our 2nd month trying. Can't say I'm obsessing over symptoms all the time but pain and sickness is pretty hard to ignore!

Any advice?

Hi OP, I know it’s easier said than done, but it might help alleviate your stress if you try and wait til AF is due, and then test again. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

I agree. Oh gosh this bring back memories of all stress testing and waiting and analysing symptoms were causing me. In the end I stopped testing, listened to my body and seduced my husband when I felt aroused around my ovulation and didn't do the pregnancy test until my periods were late. And I actually got pregnant.

Peach56 · 17/08/2023 21:51

Thanks for your advice, good idea. I'm not holding out for a positive but I will definitely wait next month.

I should have given this post the title 'how the eff does everyone do this?!'

Hi Olika thanks for your advice. I guess that's what we've been doing. We're on the wrong side of 30 now though and have been bombarded with all the neggy (factual 🙄) info from friends and family about how we (me, the mainly) are against the clock!

We never 'tried' before now.

I posted a very similar post to this when I was 12dpo . But low and behold I got a BFP at 14dpo . ( I'm also wrong side of 30 haha ) I'm 6 weeks today

Olika · 18/08/2023 07:41

I got pregnant at 41 so don't let your friends and relatives to put you down. I was reading some other threads and someone going through fertility treatment said they had told her to start taking co-Q10 which I actually started taking in June and then fell pregnant in august. I also upgraded to more expensive conception vitamins.

@Foreverhopeful23 Aw lovely! Congratulations!! 💐🥰

I bet that was a bit confusing to go through though! I'm not expecting a positive later bc cramping is worse this morning... probably af on the way.

You're not out till AF arrives. I have cramped all the way through so far . Best if luck to you x

@Olika That's really interesting, I will read up on that, thank you! And congratulations on your pregnancy, great to hear 🤗

What vits did you opt for?

OP posts:
Olika · 18/08/2023 10:22

Proceive Max Women that is more expensive than the basic version but it's for older women. About £50/30 sachets. Co-Q10 has different options on different prices. H&B lady recommended to take the Ubiquinol one that is also about £50/50 tablets. I opted to spend more money to get results as I was running out of time at my age. I must just say I did 16:8 at the same time to reset my body but my BMI was high enough for it to be safe for me. I have now a 16 month old so all that money spent was worth it.

Hi all!
I've been lurking in the background for a while and found these forums a great source of support, even just reading the threads and knowing there are people experiencing similar things to me! OP, I'm currently 10/11 dpo and the same - feel like I have a couple of symptoms (slight nausea/craps etc) but caved and did a test with BFN. Its so heartbreaking isn't it? I've very much on the wrong side of 30 - both me and my husband are 38, so we're aware age is against us. We're waiting for our consultancy but I think IVF is the way it's going to end up.

Hi @Tryingtobepatient001 yes, I agree, knowing others are having similar experiences helps. I don't talk to friends about it much, not that they wouldn't be supportive but I should imagine it would become tedious and life's busy enough for everyone!

The BFN is demoralising, sorry you had that too. 💐 Have you been trying for long? I read somewhere that over 35s should seek support after 6 months of trying.

Have you done anything else like temps or ov strips? I've no idea about them but will try it all next month and see.

You're not necessarily out yet, btw! I've not tested again.

@Peach56 I literally feel like I'm doing everything! Measure BBT on Natural Cycles, do LH strips, take so many vits etc, and this month went for my first acupuncture session!
We've had initial tests with the hospital, AMH looks to be ok for my age and husbands tests were pretty good - he has low morphology (2%) but his count and motility are both really high so hopefully that mean's he's ok. I had an initial scan and have a cyst in one ovary, plus potentially a heart shaped uterus?!
Both me and husband are pretty fit and healthy, so we naively thought this would be an easy thing for us...but its not looking like it!
I'll try and remain positive until AF undoubtedly arrives. What date are you due on? Like you say, until it arrives we're still in the game, so here's keeping positive for both of us :-)

Thank you @Olika for giving me all that info, I will definitely read up on it and go to h&b.

Might also buy shares in H&B. I know kids are expensive when they arrive but never considered they're expensive before they exist!

Wow @Tryingtobepatient001 you are really doing it all, aren't you? Sounds like you've got a lot going in your favour? Is there anything that they can do for the cyst?
I will need to get some advice from you about temping and using strips.

I was due on today, only had light brown discharge. Still cramping, my guess is it will start tomorrow. When are you set to start?

Haha I know right? Any questions please feel free to DM me although I can’t say I’m a great advertisement for doing it all!
AF due on Mon for me, not really had any cramps just a bit of brown spotting. Just did another cheapie test… BFN again so think that’s me out this month!

Tryingtobepatient001 · 19/08/2023 09:40

@Peach56 not sure on the cyst - I’m hoping the want to remove it as I made the mistake of googling what a Dermoid cyst looks like and it’s horrible! I had no idea though, can’t feel it and no bleeding etc?! Hoping our consultation will be Oct time and we will get answers then. 🤞🏼

Peach56 · 19/08/2023 14:36

Thank you @Tryingtobepatient001! Keep me posted on how you go?

I feel nauseaus today, can't eat. Pink and brown discharge earlier but nothing again since but not tested, just waiting it out, achy cramping suggests it's on the way.

Ooh that sounds like it could be positive? I’m impressed you’ve not crumbled and tested I would have given in by now! 😊

XenaTheWarriorPrincess · 19/08/2023 15:49

I'm a day late (based on when i ovulated) and was convinced AF was coming as was having normal AF cramps. Achy undercarriage, pelvic cramps, hip aches, etc. Almost the exact same as AF cramps, but no blood.

Took a test earlier today (13dpo) and it was a faint positive. You can absolutely have the exact same achy cramping as AF and be pregnant. I also feel quite nauseous today and can only eat crackers.

Maybe do a test tomorrow with fmu? Mine was unfortunately only smu, probably why it's so faint!

Around 12dpo BFN- anyone advice?

😂 Thanks! I'd already drank about 2 litres of water so wasn't much point. 😂 I have one test and I'll leave it until Monday morning if no sign. I'd be completely floored if it was positive.

Thanks for your post, I guess I've classed myself as being out. Flo app had my ovulation down for 5th Aug. So I would have been 12dpo when I tested based on that, I did test in the afternoon though. Would've thought it would have shown up if I was positive anyway.

Were you testing for ovulation? I'm going to do that next month.

Congratulations again! Ginger nuts are meant to be good for nausea 💐

OP posts:
XenaTheWarriorPrincess · 19/08/2023 18:02

@Peach56 your app could have been wrong, could have ovulated earlier ir later than it think you did. My ovulation date changes from month to month and my luteal phase is only 12 days. So flo was unknowingly oretty useles before i started tracking 😅

I do track but just with lh strips, I don't temp. I also get very obvious ov pains.

Even if the app wasn't wrong, it takes different people different amounts of time to get enough hcg in their system. We all have different levels of base hcg (between 1-5 for most but can be under 1) and implantation can happen between 6-12 dpo. Also, not everyone doubles hcg in 48 hours (36-72 hours is considered normal I believe).

So it's entirely normal to be pregnant with a bfn at 12dpo. Say you implanted on 8dpo (most common days are 8,9 and 10) and have a base beta hcg of 1 that doubles every 48 hours.

It would be 14/15dpo before a sensitive test (10miu) showed even a faint positive.

That's why you're not out until AF shows. Some get early positives and some have to wait a while, all perfectly normal. I'd say that if your period is late, that's the sign to test again.

JC084 · 19/08/2023 20:29

Thank you for this thread. It's giving me hope. Been TTC #2 for about 4/ 5 months and at 39 I'm
Worried we have left it too late.
Currently 10DPO and had a BFN this morning - but still have that glimmer of hope that I just tested too early. Have had cramps for the last couple of days, and also have had a few dizzy spells yesterday and today. Also have felt really tired the last 2 days but not sure if I'm just clinging to every possible symptom I might feel! 😅 Have a big box of IC tests that I'll use each day and then am keeping my CB just in case I see a faint line at any point!
Its a rollercoaster of emotions isn't it!

XenaTheWarriorPrincess · 19/08/2023 20:46

It really is @JC084

I stopped early testing after 2 cycles because my possible pms symptoms are basically every single early pregnancy symptom you can think of. Cramps, sore boobs, nausea, dairy cravings, dizziness, hot flushes, weeing more, headaches, fatigue. It was bloody ridiculous trying to symptom spot 😅

It's all caused by progesterone this early, so I knew I was likely not going to be able to differentiate between a normal cycle and early pregnancy. For the last few cycles I just tested 10dpo then waited for a period.

Literally the only 3 clues I had were:

  • no lightning crotch
  • no nipple throbs
  • no period

So it was the absence of things that gave it away for me 😅

Fingers crossed you get your positive soon!
