Letrozole first cycle

Hi ladies,

I’m due to start taking letrozole next cycle for the first time, just waiting for my period to start. I’ve got some spotting so reckon it will be in the next couple of days.

I wanted to see if anyone else is at a similar stage and wants to join me on the journey? Or if you’re already taking it I’d love to hear your experiences!

I’ve been reading all about the side effects so I’m a little anxious, but generally just excited to give it a try! My cycles are very irregular, and although I always get a peak OPK recently this hasn’t happened until around CD32, so I have a lot of waiting to do! Really hope the letrozole speeds things up 🤞

@Lovemusic2015 yeah exactly! Being scanned on the 18th, but will be doing both of those before then!

Yes, the first cycle I had a non-stop headache and constant dizziness. FIngers crossed for nothing this time, be kind to yourself!

@Lovemusic2015 @Obione1 Hi ladies, how are you both? Sorry for radio silence, I’ve been on holiday and promised myself I’d stay off mumsnet while away!

Sounds like we all had a long time of spotting before proper periods, I was also unsure of when to start letrozole this cycle so I waited until I had a full red bleed to be on the safe side. I hope your mix up doesn’t mess your cycle up @Obione1! Hopefully your scan next week will confirm all is well.

I’m CD17 today which was my ovulation day last month so I’m assuming/hoping it’s the same this month. I think I might have missed my peak though as I was travelling yesterday and had a 36 hour gap in testing (wasn’t travelling for that long, just ran out of tests!) So I think I start my TWW tomorrow but I’m going to keep testing just in case I peak later.

@Lovemusic2015 did you get a scan date booked in?

@Obione1 that’s great you’re being scanned on Friday, be interesting to see what happens with the double dose. Hopefully be positive!

@ChipAndDip hope you had a lovely holiday. You’re right to switch off & relax! Good to hear you’re heading into the 2ww. No major issue missing the risk once you covered the bases during that time 😜 good idea to keep testing just in case.

I’ve my scan on Thursday so be really interesting to see how my body is responding to Letrozole. It will only be cd12 & I don’t usually ovulate until later so I’m not sure what will show unless it made me ovulate earlier than normal.

@Lovemusic2015 hope your scan went/ goes well today! Got everything crossed that you’re responding well 🤞

Well I started spotting again at 5dpo yesterday, exactly the same as last month 🤷‍♀️ At least I know that the spotting didn’t impact ovulation last month, so I’m not counting myself out until I get my period properly!

Oh and @Obione1 good luck for your scan tomorrow! 🤞I’m really intrigued to see if your double dose of letrozole changed anything this month!

Hi ladies, so positive results today - I think. Busy googling!
one follicle 24mm, 2nd one 16mm & a 3rd one 8mm. So I have to take the trigger shot tonight & get busy. Uterus has a Triple lining which is good he said although measuring between 6.5 & 7.5mm in different spots he checked - don’t think it’s either bad nor great. Doc said all looked good anyway so fingers crossed 🤞🏻

Hi ladies, this is my first cycle on letrozole 2.5mg. On my day 12 scan I had a dominant folicle and my lining seemed to have improved since before taking these tablets but still needed to be a bit thicker and I was due to ovulate 2-3 days later. I’m now in my TWW dying to know if I’m going to be successful or not!

@Lovemusic2015 @ChipAndDip Curious - you have 3 follicles growing & your consultant said that's fine to carry on and have sex? I got my peak ovulation yesterday, and I was due to be scanned today, but she said to come in. So i did and i've got 4 follicles and she said to stop trying but... I'm in two minds. Do I follow the DR or just throw caution to the wind and have sex?
Looks like the double dose did screw me, which I thought would happen.

Chip how are you feeling today? Still spotting?

@Obione1 thats so disappointing. Is it due to the 4 follicles being too big? My doc said that mature follicles are 16mm and over so I’m considered to have two. Therefore I was instructed to trigger last night. However my clinic allow for 3 mature follicles as the chance of triplets is so so small.

I know the chance of quads is obviously there if you have four mature follicles…

@Lovemusic2015 yeah i took it well.. sat there and cried lol. They were between 12&15 mm so I don't know? She's quite a cautious person, so I feel like that is leading her, and I feel in the same vein... if it had been an unmonitored cycle, we wouldn't have known & just had sex... then... who knows.
Also, we had sex as soon as that smiley face appeared, so I've already started before she told me not to.
But you have 3 right? 2 mature and are going ahead?

@Obione1 would it be worth asking for a phonecall to discuss further? Ask the size of each follicle? Are you using a trigger shot? Olus as you say you’ve obviously done the deed already so there’s a chance! I really feel for you. Ttc is such a difficult journey & you don’t want to miss or waste another month. I already had it on my file not to proceed with 3 mature follicles as I personally didn’t want the chance of multiples so my doc was joking with me yesterday saying thankfully you’ve only 2 mature. As far as he was concerned the 3rd was a non runner. Now I’m googling & I’m wondering if 24mm is too big as optimal seems to be lower 🙈

@Obione1 sorry I reread & basically you’re ovulating today so I’d definitely try ring the clinic today & see if multiples are really a significant risk with the size of all follicles?

@Lovemusic2015 Ah i see, no I've not been given a trigger shot, and round 1 of letrozole didn't work. I actually don't mind having multiples, 2 is fine but 3 or 4...not a chance i could deal with that.
What are the odds though, if I've not been able to get on fertilized that I'll get 2 or 3 or 4 lol
It just feels like the decision should be down to us, but there you go.

Exciting that you have 2 that are good to go - Seems that we're at the exact same stage, have you have a positive ovulation test yet?

Yeah that’s what I’d be thinking, like we are trying so long now, what are the chances of 3 or 4 fertilising…
I am only going to test today as the trigger last night means I should ovulate 24-36 hours after. Told me to get busy last night, tonight & tomorrow.

usually I ovulate around day 17 -19 since starting metformin so ovulating much earlier on letrozole. I’m not going to worry too much about the tests though as he did tell me no need and may not be accurate. I’m going to test out of curiosity though!

Hi all, I’m still spotting, almost exactly the same as last month, but a bit lighter and no cramping. 8dpo today so I’ll just expect to spot until I get my period. Nothing I can do about it so I’m not going to stress!

@Lovemusic2015 That’s great news about your follicles, I think 24mm is the perfect size isn’t it?! Maybe it’s different for a trigger shot, but my nurse told me that anything from 20-25 is ideal size for ovulation. Fingers crossed for you!

@Obione1 oh sorry to hear about your results, I’d have reacted the same as you. Did you end up calling back on Friday? 12-15mm still seems on the small side so maybe 1 or 2 will grow bigger before releasing next week (is double ovulation possible?? I might be making things up!) Could you try and get another scan early next week to double check, or is that out of the question?

@ChipAndDip I’m on 6 DPO and this TWW is killing meeee. Why does it feel longer than normal haha. How are you feeling x

@Gkb90 I’m feeling pretty good thanks, I’ve managed to stay chilled out this cycle and not getting my hopes up. 10dpo and still spotting but it’s actually much lighter than last month now so we’ll see! Not long to wait now, I’ll either get my period on Friday or test on Saturday. How have you been last couple of days?

I'm on cd3. It’s going to be a long 2 weeks!! Taking progesterone pessaries now so we’re throwing all at this cycle.

Hello ladies - I just posted a new thread on letrozole but then found this one so am going to add on here. We did 2 rounds of IUI - non medicated, which didn't work so then started on our first round of letrozole this month. 5mg from day 2-5, and thankfully not much symptoms and I felt ok. Had a scan on day 12 (Tuesday) and had a 16mm and 12mm follicle which was a HUGE surprise for me as I usually have long cycles (35 days) and ovulate on day 20-22. The doctor has recommended a trigger shot tomorrow and then hopefully an IUI 24 hours later on Friday. However still getting very negative OPKs - but wondering if that is just the letrozole and fact that usually I ovulate very late. But keeping fingers crossed, Any advice ladies ?

@bstrong0805 I only got negative ovulation tests when on the medication but I am now 15 weeks pregnant so I definitely did ovulate x

@bstrong0805 i was very lucky in that my first cycle worked. I had provera to bring on my period and have been taking metformin 3 times a day

I also had negative opks on the cycle I got pregnant. got pregnant on the 3rd cycle of letrozole, 11 weeks today :)

Hi @bstrong0805 I’m on my first cycle on letrozole 5mg too with trigger shot. I had a scan cd12 with two main follicles & triggered that eve. I got positive ovulation tests eve of cd13 & morning cd14 but I stopped testing as figured it wouldn’t be an accurate test due to trigger.
I have been ovulating cd 18-20 since starting metformin so I was surprised I ovulated so early first month on letrozole.

@Lovemusic2015 that does sound very similar to me! They are going to rigger me on cd14 tomorrow and then schedule an IUI for cd15. Way earlier than my usual ovulation time but keeping fingers crossed. What size of follicle did they trigger you at ? Mine was 16mm on cd12 but they said they would give it 2 more days before trigger.
