@ElleJones1 as soon as it starts flashing, it means that oestrogen is rising and you are nearing ovulation. You need to have sex before ovulation occurs, so that the sperm is up there waiting for the egg.
So my advice would be to dtd as soon as you get the flashing smiley and to try to dtd at least every other day until you get the static. The static is the best time to have sex as you will be releasing the egg in the next 12-36 hours, so the day of static and the day after if you can is good.
Me and DH also do an "insurance bonk" a couple of days after ovulation just in case for some reason there was a delay with the egg. I think I had one month where I tried to ovulate and must have failed (flashing smileys but didn't get solid smiley but lots of ewcm) then got more ewcm about a week later. As my period was a week late, I must have ovulated with the second lot of ewcm and we missed out that month, as I thought that I'd ovulated the first time, as that was my usual ovulation date, we'd dtd, then relaxed afterwards and with work we didn't dtd again for over a week, by which time I'd missed the actual ovulation and so didn't get pregnant that month. Stupidly I'd been googling the second lot of ewcm thinking that it could be a sign of implantation/pregnancy!
You may also never get a solid if you have a very short peak in LH and your clearblue tester misses it. So again, just dtd every day or two as soon as you get the flashing smiley to keep yourself covered. I've had months where I've never gotten a solid, even after 11 days, but I know that I've ovulated as my cervical mucus changes from ewcm to thick and sticky
I hope that this helps, sorry for the long post!
