I don't know if there are any threads already started but I've just officially found out I've got PCOS this morning - I've always known deep down. Please tell me it's not all bad I'm feeling very sorry for myself.
We've been TTC for 6 months - only 3 cycles. I supposedly ovulated on CD36 (now CD43) this cycle. Gynae reckons not preg cos uterus lining would've thickened. (Had a scan this morning)

Any hints/tips on treatment/TTC?
How to deal with symptoms?

How did Posh spice and Jools Oliver manage to fall preg?

---------------------

Hi - this thread is a little out of date. We've got some more information on PCOS here. MNHQ

Wow - 3 of you! You lucky ladies

I won't bore you with all the details of what I've been up to but I'm currently waiting to hear from my specialist as to what they suggest next.

Neither Clomid or Menopur made any real difference to my follicles. I have just finished a course of Puregon (an alternative injectable to Menopur) which very nearly hyper-stimulated my ovaries. I was scanned on Monday and my consultant found 5 potentially viable follicles! So I have had to use the drug I was given to make me ovulate and now DH isn't allowed near me until after I have a period; I want 1 baby, I could cope with 2 or possibly even 3 but he said that he is uncomfortable with the level of risk that I might have 5!

IVF is out of the question for us as we can't get it on the NHS because we had DD and we can't/don't want to pay for it - the pressure would be too great.

He has suggested an Ovarian Diathermy but I don't know if he is going to suggest another go with Puregon first ... like I say, I'm waiting to hear ... again ...

Still not read up to date but hope everyone is well and happy

FruitynNutty · 06/08/2008 14:56

Well that sounds like great news for you Tiger! I agree 5 could be tricky I so hope this is it for you, lots and lots of luck!

Tigerschick · 06/08/2008 15:48

Sorry, this month isn't going to be it for me. I'm not 'allowed' to make use of the 5 follicles. They are going to be released, not fertilised and then I'll have a period and they will be gone.
Maybe next time, hey

How is your pregnancy going? All OK so far I hope.

GYo · 06/08/2008 15:53

Hi Everyone-

Just a quick one to say hi. Went for scan yesterday at 8wks- uploaded my photo onto my site.

Hope the luck continues for you Tiger- though 5 sounds good fun but hard work!

AnnVan · 06/08/2008 16:05

Hi - my sister has PCOS, her and BIL were on waiting list for fertility clinic, but ended up conceiving naturally. She says she hadn't had a period in months when she conceived. Oh and she's now pg with DC2 due early september - so don't fear it CAN happen!

DungunGirl · 06/08/2008 16:17

GYO

All I can say is AWWWWWWWW....

You must be so happy to see your little bean at last!

DungunGirl · 06/08/2008 16:18

tiger

Hmmmm...I can understand the worry that you might end up with 5! That is quite a crazy thought.

I can imagine that you must be wishing that you could have used at least a few of the follicles!

Sounds like things are moving though! So hopefully next round, there will be only 2-3 and DH will be happier to give it a go!

booge · 06/08/2008 16:22

Hello, I just wanted to say hi, I've never been on this thread before but have known I have PCOS for about 4 years now. I was very luckily able to conceive without problems, but did miscarry before having our DC.

My main problems are excess hair and problem skin which has knocked my confidence. I have finally got it together to go for some laser treatment and had my first session 2 weeks ago. So far so good, I'm impressed. Now I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it really does work for me. I knew an old lady when I was a child who went for a shave at the hairdresser once a week, I'm praying it doesn't get that bad for me.

FruitynNutty · 06/08/2008 21:51

Hi booge PCOS is a real confidence knocker Shame the pill keeps the symptoms under control, not very helpful when TTC

Moonlit · 06/08/2008 22:09

Fruity and DungunGirl - Ladies I have a question.

When did you guys have your HSG? Fruity I recall you having one, but DungunGirl did you?

Ladies on this PCOS thread did anyone have a HSG and then get pregnant.

The reason I ask, is because here in the US i have learnt that PCOS sufferers have a HSG and then often (but not always) get pregnant.

Cheers!

x

FruitynNutty · 07/08/2008 07:58

Actually Moonlit I didn't get preg right away but it definitely must have cleared something because I had it on the 4th April and I ovulated for the 1st time since temping (or my chart followed the pattern of ovulation anyway) on CD34 and my cycle only lasted 47 days which is by far one of my shortest cycles.
I fell pregnant on the following cycle. I got my BFP on CD58 when I was only 3 weeks +4 days preg!

I really believe that HSG cleared my tubes and gave me a decent cycle and who knows, perhaps it helped towards my BFP the following cycle

When I was in the x-ray room, the sonographer? said that a lot of his patients fall pregnant after having the HSG.
Do you have one booked?

DungunGirl · 07/08/2008 08:21

moonlit

I have had absolutely nothing.
Thanks to the NHS!

The only thing they did do is diagnose my PCOS!!

I was supposed to be sent back to them in September if I had not manage to fall pregnant by then, they were going to get me a lap&Dye.

So...lets see how sticky this bean is!

Otherwise, it will be another wait 6 months and go back !

booge · 08/08/2008 07:54

DungunGirl, like you once diagnosed I had nothing else. I got in a terrible state about miscarrying and the DR googled PCOS and read me information I had already googled myself. I left in tears. The pill makes me miserable so even when not ttc I didn't want to take it.

Moonlit · 08/08/2008 11:05

Booge - When I was not TTC, my GP prescribed Dianette. I did not suffer any side affects from this. My acne disappeared, body hair decreased and I looked great. Although, I must point out this drug is not suitable and trouble free for everyone!

I have been TTC # 2 for almost two years now. I have lost 1.5 stone in the past month, and my acne has disappeared and hair growth has slowed down. The last time I lost weight to get pregnant, this also happened. So weight loss of any kind can help alleviate symptoms a little.

Good luck! xx

mummy2olivia · 08/08/2008 11:10

I dont know if Attilla is around but i know she sometimes comes on this thread

Attilla I have posted a thread about endometriosis and was hoping you could help me and give me an opinion??? please!!

Moonlit · 08/08/2008 11:18

Hi DungunGirl and Fruity - Thanks for the info. Nope I am not booked for a HSG. My hubby is trying to re-arrange my referral appointment for when I get back. I guess HSG will be the first thing they do. It would cost me 70 quid to have it done here privately. But I am hoping my weight loss has kick started my ovaries and that I will just have to get jiggy with it when i get back with my DH (whom I haven't seen in two months).

The dilemmas!!!!!

DungunGirl · 11/08/2008 09:01

Just shouting a big hello my girls..
moonlit, lauralou, cam75

How are you all?

I am getting worried as I am getting too much good news at the moment.

Well, after getting a BFP last week - Due date is 11th April ( if it sticks this time! )

I weighed at the weekend fully expecting my weight to have crept back up to pre-slimfast weight ( I was doing slimfast a week a go for 10 days ) but blow me down! I have lost close to half a stone!!!!!!

I am so over the moon! Maybe it is my hormones changing and it is affecting my metabolism?

cam75 · 11/08/2008 13:42

dungungirl, hey honey

I have been on the phone to the nurse and i asked her if there is any chance to up my doseage, as i not getting the result i expect. She said yes!!!1 but she will have to montior me as there is a high risk of twins etc.....
I am going to see her wednesday and get some more clomid... I think af is coming boy do i feel drained.. I don't feel any different apart from my sore boobs but i have had sore boobs for over 2 weeks now??

Moonlit · 11/08/2008 14:08

Hey DungunGirl and Ladies,

DungunGirl - You deserve all the good news you can get . I hope you are being a good girl and taking your vitamins and eating well? I am hoping my good news is just around the corner too.

I am exhausted today, we went to a county fair on Saturday and to a Zoo yesterday, where we could feed the Giraffe!!! Honestly, things are so different in the US.

Have a nice day!

xxx

FruitynNutty · 11/08/2008 15:04

Hi girls

Wow, I remember there being a giraffe at London Zoo when I was a child (or was it an elephant ) Don't make zoo's how they used to
dungun very impressed with your weight loss! Mine's creeping up, in fact my belly's is huge already, I told a friend I was pregnant on Friday and she took one look at my belly and said "I guessed"!
Ah well, can;t complain now can I. don;t be worried dungun you need some good news

I hope everyone's ok

DungunGirl · 11/08/2008 16:14

cam75

my first symptom...which prompted me to test was .....
sore boobs...

maybe..I'll secretly keep my fingers crossed for you!

I am fine thanks. No sickness yet just lower back ache first thing in the morning and also totally lost interest in tea!

This is a good sign I think as it was the same with my DS...I went off tea totally with him too.

DungunGirl · 19/08/2008 13:34

Fruity? Moonlit? GYo? Anyone?

AttilaTheMeerkat · 19/08/2008 13:52

Attila here.

My hearty congrats to all the pg ladies.

Re Moonlit's recent comment:-

"Here in the US i have learnt that PCOS sufferers have a HSG and then often (but not always) get pregnant".

It was not the case with me; the HSG only served to prove that my tubes were patent (open).

I became pg as a result of ovarian diathermy srugery (which I believe is what is being proposed to Tigerschick).

Tigerschick, please feel free to ask me any questions you may have about this particular op.

Moonlit · 19/08/2008 14:12

Hi DungunGirl - How are you?

Hey Attila - It's been ages! I hope you are well?

xx

DungunGirl · 19/08/2008 14:26

Hi Moonlit

I am good thanks. I am now 6.5 weeks so keeping my fingers, toes and legs crossed that I hit the 7 week point on Saturday!

So far I have been feeling tired, and since yesterday had mild nausea so I am taking that as hopefully a good sign.

I don't think i will feel out of the woods until I see the little one at week 12!

Just hoping I get there!

How are you getting on?
