BB- stop worrying, if you are "employed" you are working, whether on probabtion or not and yes as long as you are employed before you are pg then you are fine. The only issue with being pg and on probabtion is job security, cos you can be fired without any real reason on probation, so if they suspected out you were pg (say you were being sick in the toilets) they good in theory fire you for another reason. Most employers would not do this of coruse, but I wouldn't put it past some! Or more innocently, you could fail probabtion for any reason be pg and out of a job, so its a risk I wouldn't want to take (knowing what its like to be fired by surprise on probation!

Hello all. I think Pickering is going to have a baby boom soon. I've just been over to town to get some stuff and while in chemist picking up ds cream I thought 'Oh I'll get some folic acid', there wasn't any so went to Boots none there either. Woman in Boots thinks we're expecting a big baby boom!

BeMyLilBaby · 06/02/2008 12:22

oh thats gd then, were defo not trying until signed off, so if worse happened, i would just be needing a new job, i dont think my company wld be that brazen to sack me as my counterpart is doing ALOT worse they wld have to get rid of us both, i jsut hate loosing any control!!

Diege · 06/02/2008 12:26

Thanks PLAYING !

NatalieJane · 06/02/2008 12:26

Kay I wonder if it is to do with the recent news on taking folic for 12m before TTC'ing?

Which reminds me, I spose I should get some for myself!

Diege · 06/02/2008 12:37

Arghh!! You've just reminded me to take mine!
KAY, know Pickering quite well (we go to Whitby every year on hols). Will give you a wave in July!

largeginandtonic · 06/02/2008 12:40

You should all be taking folic acid >

I simply dont do girls, i have boys. Poor dd was a fluke i'm sure. She did make me incredibly fat and very sick BUT did stay in till the day before her due date (clever girl, she is still excellent at time keeping) whereas the troublesome boys are all over the shop. Twins were born at 29 weeks, ds#3 born 10 days late, ds#4 tried to come out at 32 weeks but was eventually 14 days late and ds#5 also tried to escape early at 32 weeks but was 10 days late after induction. I am hoping for... i dont know

How is everyone today? I will not torment you with stories of mil, she is fabulous so is my mom, i just wished they both lived nearer

NatalieJane · 06/02/2008 12:40

Where is everyone going hols this year?

We went to Menorca last year, was a chuffing nightmare with DS2 being 8 months old. Think we will give going abroad a miss till new baby is at least 2. But we have said we will do lots of weekend's away in UK instead. Looked at Isle of Man in the week, mixed reviews. Don't know where else we could try!

NatalieJane · 06/02/2008 12:42

I haven't been anywhere to get any folic acid, honest Miss....

I will look on line now OK?!!

kayzr · 06/02/2008 12:44

Diege I love Whitby I'd live there if I could afford it.
We're going to Devon for a week in July. There is at 9 of us going in 3 cars.

kayzr · 06/02/2008 12:46

NJ my mum goes to Isle of Man every year for the TT. She says its great

NatalieJane · 06/02/2008 12:47

Yeah but if she goes for the racing then she is going to enjoy it!

Can't believe I just said 'yeah but'....

kayzr · 06/02/2008 13:01

She reckons she is going to move there.
I wanted to go to Paris for our anniversary but Devon is cheaper so Devon it is. I can go surfing

Diege · 06/02/2008 13:06

Kay, I am also in love with Whitby . We rent a little cottage that backs onto the shore (just by the Abby steps). The dds call it 'pirate cottage' and think that the beach is their beach and get quite cross when there are others on it (apart from the lady with the metal detector who they think is 'cleaning' the beach for them! We're going for 2 weeks this year which will be great, though hopefully we can get away with just one visit to Flamingo Land this year!!
NJ, I feel your pain with travelling abroad with a baby. I made the stupid mistake of travelling to Portugal with my 3 dds with a friend and her 3 LOs (no husbands). My three were 5, 4 and 10 months and it was a bloody nightmare . I'm still getting flashbacks, and can't even bring myself to get the camera film developed . And I've sort of ended the friendship as there's nothing like 7 days and nights together to find out you really have very little in common with someone!!
Right, lunch!

Trying to work out where to go on holiday this year. Went to Mexico last year (well Cozumel, a small island just off the coast) so will be looking for a cheaper hol this year probably in France or Italy. Would quite like to book a villa with friends, works out quite cheap when you split the costs.

I am not taking specific folic acid supplements but I have just started taking (making DH take too) a multi vit which does contain folic acid and I do eat lots of dark green veg. Not quite as much as the recommended does for pg women but at the mo I am just happy that I am supplementing my diet with extra vits. Got 3 months worth, so when I finish them I will move onto proper pg vits with the correct amount of folic acid, not vit A etc. That should give me 6 months on them before ttc. Even if its not perfect I would say at least its a start.

Diege · 06/02/2008 13:08

Devon is lovely too (go to Monkey World!!), though I don't envy you the journey down . Have find memories of travelling to Cornwall with dd1 and an episode of food poisening combined with tremendous traffic jams - not great Think sick under the car seat fabric cover and you get then picture . Not to put you off!

kayzr · 06/02/2008 13:11

LOL at Diege. I might go to Monkey World. Really wanted to go to the Eden Project but its about 100 miles away from where we are staying.

largeginandtonic · 06/02/2008 13:13

Devon is indeed lovely, i lived there for years. In Plymouth.

I have been to Mexico too, loved it. Sea so blue >

Go to NY that is great too, not cheap though. Hmmmm, how about Rome? I want a holiday!

BeMyLilBaby · 06/02/2008 13:15

I was gonna take multi vits, cod liver capsules and these preg vits(contains folic acid) (cos i have them indoors already) do you think that will be ok?

kayzr · 06/02/2008 13:17

NY is amazing!! I really want to take dh.
I'm so jealous I'd give anything to go to Mexico.
There is loads of pg multi vitamins but they were like £12!!! The folic acid on its own was £2.45 and on 3 for 2. Bloody Boots

Diege · 06/02/2008 13:18

BYME, I wouldn't bother with the multi-vits if taking pregnancy vits, unless you need to getb through them in which case I would just take multi-vits and a plain folic acid tab .
Ooh Eden Project Kay, well...if you do care take if pregnant by then! I collapsed when pregnant with dd1 in the tropical room and had to be carried out. v. embarrasing, esp with dh convinced to this day that In was being a drama queen .

kayzr · 06/02/2008 13:31

Yeah. I really want to enjoy my holiday without looking like a beached whale or I'd start ttc now so if we start in may I'll only be about 2 months.
One of the best things I thought about being pg last time - no one really looks at you and thinks "oh they're fat"

Cosmogirl · 06/02/2008 13:43

Can't post much today - at work with people behind me!! Darn it. BB - I too would love to see SIL's face if I produced first grand-daughter. It would be too tempting to say 'ha ha ha - suck on that!' Thanks for the link, NJ - will take a look later.
I'll try and catch up on the thread tonight in between house work multi-tasking...Gosh I could eat some chocolate right about now...

NatalieJane · 06/02/2008 13:45

Ok I didn't order it

I am going to go into town tomorrow and get some I need a few other bits as well so if I get it in town I can start taking them tomorrow instead of whenever the postie decides he is actually going to deliver our mail, think we are making an average of twice a week at the moment!

Devon is wayyyyy too far from us, if we wanted to travel that far we'd go back to Bournemouth, we went for my 18th birthday and again a couple of years after just after DS1 was born, loved it both times.

Was thinking about maybe north Wales or something, no idea where though. As long as it isn't Blackpool I'll be happy!

kayzr · 06/02/2008 13:45

Chocolate would be so good but I've given it up for lent
