OK, so here we go: yes, you find cm in your knickers! Cervical mucus is produced most of the month: straight after your period is will be quite dry, then it will be white and kind of crumbly, then it will go creamier, then - and this is the fertile bit - it will go thin and stretchy (like eggwhite - this is called ewcm and this is dog's bollocks of cervical mucus) or alternatively thin and runny - then, after you have ovulated, it goes thick and white again.

You will see it on your knickers but if you want to check that it is becoming fertile mucus you will have to do one of two things: you can put your fingers in your wazoo and collect some, then try stretching it between two fingers. If it is lovely ewcm it will stretch like eggwhite. Alternatively you can collect some on toilet paper after going to the loo and lift it off that (you can see it because it stays shiny on the surface of the paper, whereas wee soaks straight in).

Some women have difficulty detecting ewcm, but most will be able to find out what the fertile period is like by monitoring the changes in their mucus throughout their cycle. It does vary between individuals so you shouldn't freak if it isn't exactly as written here, but if you don't have any pattern of changes, you should seek medical advice.
