Anyone else getting ready to TTC?

Hi, I'm looking for buddies who have just started, or are about to start their TTC journey. I am TTC number 2. Stopped my pill around a month ago. Ideally want to conceive in the new year, but took a long time to fall pregnant with my first. So currently not trying too hard, but not preventing either. Would be nice to hear about other people's stories too 😊

Me! Planning on coming off the pill on the 1st November Grin then will actively TTC DC2 in December
Very excited! I can tell I'm more than ready because I'm just constantly trawling the conception board..

Skyla01 · 27/10/2022 20:12

@WideOpenSpaces Hiya! That's exciting - and not long to wait now. How old is DC 1? Did you fall pregnant quickly the first time round?

OP posts:
WideOpenSpaces · 27/10/2022 20:50

13 months old, and I fell in cycle 1 last time so fingers crossed we are lucky again.
How are you doing?

honeyfox · 27/10/2022 20:56

First month TTC since about 2019. Had a MMC August 2018 then tried again in 2019 with no luck (pregnant first time trying in 2018). Long story short, very bad periods during lockdown, turned out I had a large fibroid for which I had 3 surgeries Jan to June this year, just cleared in September to go again. Egg count is good, I'm 44 and eggs of a 40 year old apparently, and DH sperm count good also. Last chance really, I'm ok with whether it happens or not but sure we'll have a go 😊

Skyla01 · 28/10/2022 10:20

@WideOpenSpaces absolutely hope for the same this time round, that's great you fell so quickly last time. It'll be good if your cycle comes back quickly too.

I'm still waiting for AF. It's been over a month since I stopped my pill. I guess it's possible to conceive straight away but not thinking I've been that lucky!

@honeyfox that's some journey you've had so far. Glad the fibroid has been dealt with and your eggs are looking good. Is your cycle back on track now? Best of luck 🤞

Thanks @Skyla01 . Yep i think the cycle is back to normal now.

overgrowngrass · 29/10/2022 19:00

Evening all 😀Sooo according to the Flo app, my period was due two days ago. I’m not testing because I know 100% I’m not pregnant. For one thing we’ve barely managed to have sex this month, and I have always known before I’ve even missed a period previously as my boobs get so sore so quickly. But I’m now thinking my bleed after IUD removal wasn’t actually a period after all 😩 Considering buying some OPKs but didn’t want to get that “involved” with TTC this early, if that makes any sense.

lallanxoxo · 29/10/2022 19:46

Hi, jumping on this thread but I’ve just done a hcg test 1 week after sex can it be possible for it to be positive already? I’m not sure if it’s just my eyes!

RPH92 · 29/10/2022 20:29

Also part of the “trying but not trying” gang at the moment.

Had my implant out on 13 October. Think I was ovulating around 22/34 Oct so we DTD a few times around then but without a proper period for about 8 years I don’t have much to go off cycle wise.

Right now I’m waiting to see if I get any symptoms or AF any time soon. Finding waiting for that hard enough!

Nice to connect with others in the same boat as my other half is far more relaxed than me.

Skyla01 · 29/10/2022 20:33

@overgrowngrass what kind of IUD did you have? If it was mirena maybe you had a withdrawal type bleed and your cycle is still not quite back to normal? You could still be pregnant though, boob pain or not, but agree waiting a bit longer to see what happens is a good move. When I was TTC my first (took ages) I hardly took any tests. I remember waiting for my cycles to settle after the pill last time. I used opks but it was expensive with long cycles & I was a bit obsessed when really would have been best just to wait for my body to sort itself out. Patience can be hard to find when TTC though!

OP posts:
Skyla01 · 29/10/2022 20:36

@RPH92 so you have another week or so to see if AF shows? I'm similar that I think I ovulated two weeks ago so af should be here by now. But not 100% sure and haven't had a period since stopping pill so just waiting to see what happens. I don't want to test unless I have a good reason / pregnancy symptoms. But I have just order some cheap pregnancy tests so might take one next week...

OP posts:
RPH92 · 29/10/2022 21:12

Yeah I think so but to be honest it’s been a combination of pill/implant for so long that I’m not sure what my regular cycle length is!

I feel the same about testing but then every symptom of a mild cramp or sore boob makes me want to test! We’ll have to wait it out together!

Skyla01 · 30/10/2022 07:11

@RPH92 same here- I've been going by my old cycle length but could be different now. I'm managing to stay quite relaxed about it. Is there a reason you are not quite properly trying yet? Glad your OH is very relaxed, that will help you.

OP posts:
RPH92 · 30/10/2022 10:09

@Skyla01 a couple of things, which are practical but a bit insignificant.

I know I have a bit of an anxious/all or nothing personality and I think once we get into tracking and the TWW period having really tried to conceive, I might find that really hard from a mental health perspective.

Also after the implant I think there are mixed experiences on how quickly fertility can return so we’re just giving it a few months to see if I do slip back into a cycle.

passthechoc · 30/10/2022 12:33

Hi all, jumping on here to join you all.
We've made the decision to start trying for number 2. Number 1 took us 2 cycles so hoping for something similar but you just never know do you and circumstances have changed! Number 1 was during covid when neither of us were working so everything was pretty stress free which probably helped. We are both back working full time jobs now... with my DH working away a lot so we could be in for a longer journey this time round!

Skyla01 · 30/10/2022 16:51

@RPH92 sounds very sensible, especially as you say after hormonal contraception it's hard to predict how things will go. I got very stressed when TTC number 1 (took over a year) so hoping for a better experience this time. Hope that you conceive quickly and can avoid too much stress!

Welcome @passthechoc , you're right- never know how things will go. Might be interesting with your OH away a lot. Is that tough looking after one on your own a bit?

Yes, it can be difficult at times but I'm used to it now and enjoy having the bed to myself! It's hard with work as well, especially if it's been a long, hard day and then home to me LO!

SillyOldBear3 · 30/10/2022 20:25

We're on month 3 of TTC, or at least, not preventing! (going for the relaxed approach because it seems less scary) 😅

I came off the pill 2 years ago, and I was one of the lucky ones whose cycle was back to normal within the first month!

I'm 33 and this will be our first.. I have no idea how fertile I am.. I have a pretty regular cycle and know when I ovulate because I get ovulation cramps every month. I guess this doesn't mean an awful lot though!?

EssJayyCee · 30/10/2022 20:41

Hi!
I'd like to join this thread!
I've not read it all yet but I am about to start TTC Baby no.2.

It took me almost 3 years to conceive DD so I am expecting a difficult road again.
I have long annovulatory cycles. Polycystic Ovaries (not the syndrome) and my partner has slow sperm 😞 so it's really not easy for us.

I have been tracking bbt and using opks daily but ovulation isn't happening.
Currently CD18.

Sick of waiting.

Skyla01 · 31/10/2022 16:24

Hi @SillyOldBear3 that's a good place to start. Actually quite handy you get ovulation cramps- you'll know just when to time DTD. I would stay relaxed for as long as you can, just try and DTD at the right time each month. I was 33 when I TTC my first. Took over a year, which was horrible and stressful at the time, but all worth it in the end. So I would just try and go with the flow with positive vibes, not worth the stress!

@EssJayyCee sorry you had a such a hard time last time, but you got there in the end. Hopefully things will be easier this time but TTC is such a lottery. Long cycles must be hard to manage too. How old is your LO?

OP posts:
SillyOldBear3 · 31/10/2022 22:08

Thanks @Skyla01 we dtd 1 and 2 days before ovulation so I'm keeping everything crossed. I have a fairly short luteal phase of 10 days though, so hoping this is long enough.

When do you think you will test?

RPH92 · 01/11/2022 07:07

I did my first test yesterday (and this morning, 🤦🏼‍♀️). BFN’s right now but I’m not sure where I am in my cycle post implant so wasn’t holding out much hope this cycle anyway! Curiosity just got me 😂

anyone else been testing yet?

Skyla01 · 01/11/2022 09:33

@SillyOldBear3 you've given it a good shot. At least with a slightly shorter luteal phase your tww is shorter. I think that less than 10 days isn't so good, but at 10 that is ok?

@RPH92 have you got cheapie tests? They are good if you might test a lot. So hard waiting for cycle to settle down and not knowing where you are. Last time I got lots of hormonal symptoms during that time too which didn't help.

I'm still waiting for pregnancy tests to come in the post. Think I'll test later this week (Thursday?). I've had a few cramps last night and this morning so half expecting af to show up. It's been 2.5 years since I've had a period though so I'm not so good at predicting things. I'm not one for doing a lot of tests, but drinking a bit more coffee and wine than I probably should so might be good to check I haven't fallen pregnant straight away! Although took many cycles last time round so hard to believe it can happen so easily.

How is everyone else?

OP posts:
CityKity · 01/11/2022 14:51

@Skyla01 I had a very heavy month of coffee and wine, so was relieved that AF turned up yesterday! I think this cycle is the first month that we’ll actually try a little bit more deliberately, although annoyingly we might have family staying over in our tiny flat bang around ovulation. Not a lot we can do about that!
How many cycles did it take last time and what do you think made the biggest difference in the cycle you fell pregnant?

No testing for me yet, but completely missed ovulation last month so knew it was unlikely. My cycles are regular enough that I’m hoping to wait for a missed period before driving myself crazy testing.

Skyla01 · 01/11/2022 15:54

@CityKity hmm well sperm can live for up to five days apparently so you might still be ok if you can get some time together before your visitors arrive. Yeah I've never been attracted to the idea of early testing, can get expensive too. It took me 11 cycles last time I think, over a year anyway. After a while my cycle was very regular so AF was a reliable (and free) pregnancy test for me each month. The month I fell pregnant I totally chilled out (had been uber stressed about it all before that)- no tracking dates, no opks, we DTD when I noticed fertile cm, tried to forget about it. And finally got BFP 😀So who knows what this time round will bring. TTC is such a lottery. But I'm determined not to get as stressed out / obsessed.
