Hello all, glad to find a thread with others my age! I'll be 41 in four weeks, my partner will be 41 in December. We're childhood sweethearts that reconnected a couple of years ago (we were each others' first kiss!)
I have an 8.5 son from my first marriage, who I conceived first month of temping/opks etc, so have actively started doing that again, and on my second focused month of that. Had an odd low temp just after when I thought I'd ovulated, which is confusing FF and means I could have ovulated either CD 12, 13 or 15. If CD15 then we may have stopped trying too soon this cycle (partner works away during the week usually, so we try and rearrange work so he can be home). My partner has no children, but because I have my son my GP has said we won't get any help with IVF and couldn't afford it privately, so it's natural or nothing 😕
My grandmother had my Dad when she was 45 (in 1951!) so I'm hoping she's passed on those genetics to me!

HWT · 16/08/2022 13:49

Good luck! I follow Rosanne Austin on instagram which I find very positive and she's just had someone post that they got pregnant naturally at 45!

You will get there!

Dragon82 · 16/08/2022 14:08

Hi @LucyFraser1981 good to hear from you. Sorry to hear that you don’t get any help with IVF, rules are so confusing. Fingers crossed you don’t need it though and you’ll get your positive soon. Sending wishes and good luck.

LucyFraser1981 · 16/08/2022 14:37

Thanks @HWT 💗
Thank you too @Dragon82 💗

Hi,
I am 44 & would love another. Spent years trying to convince dh and finally agreed to try when I turned 42. So far it hasn’t happened. No problems conceiving in my 30’s though, had four pregnancies all within trying on first cycle. Praying its not too late.

Holls81 · 19/08/2022 09:42

@Shasha2 I feel the same.
3 pregnancies in 30s all within first month of trying.
convinced husband when I was 41 and now 42 and still nothing. I’m feeling downhearted today as af showed up this morning.
last month I had strong ovulation pains and I’ve not had them for a couple of months previously and my periods are still really regular so I’m hoping there’s still a chance. Hope I’m not kidding myself 😩
I do see lots of hopeful stories and people having ‘surprise’ babies in their 40s so that makes me more positive.
DH isn’t keen on trying for too much longer if it doesn’t happen soon as he’s concerned about too big of an age gap so I feel like time is ticking on and it’s getting me down.
Im so very grateful for what I have and realise that I’m so lucky but would just love another. I had severe undiagnosed anxiety when i fell pregnant with my youngest which, with the addition of pregnancy hormones, turned to panic disorder/ antenatal depression It was the worst time of my life. Never thought I’d come through it. A hugely supportive gp, some temporary meds and a wonderful therapist later, I was on my way to recovery and by the time my baby was born I was feeling much stronger. I never thought that after that I would long for another baby once more but the support I received made me stronger than I’d felt in years and I now want to experience motherhood again with my new stronger and healthier mind. X

Shasha2 · 19/08/2022 12:29

Dh thought it would happen straight away like it did in my 30’s and I was secretly hoping the same. Every month symptom spotting in tww only for af to show, its an emotional rollercoaster. I too was very anxious in my last pregnancy as had loss at 22 weeks before, so really struggled emotionally until the baby was born and I could settle.

I too have strong ovulations pains every month and positive opk’s.

Know a few my age who are expecting so it can still happen!

Went for a "fertility MOT" last week and am getting our results this afternoon. I don't know all the medical terms but They did an internal scan to check follicles/ovaries and blood test to check ovarian reserve, also DH gave a sperm sample to be checked. Ive been off contraception for a couple of years now and nothing has happened so it'll be good to know what's going on. Just turned 40 so it's now (in the next couple of years) or never

LucyFraser1981 · 19/08/2022 16:54

@coldcoldheartt where did you go for the MOT? My GP has said they won't offer Mr any help due to being nearly 41 and already having a son from previous relationship. She said as my periods are regular that means I'm ovulating, and just to keep trying... 🙄But I'm wondering if knowing what's what could be helpful. As my partner last had a sperm analysis nearly three years ago now too. I temp, so know that I do ovulate, but obviously no clue about egg health/viability. Hope your results come back positive!

LucyFraser1981 · 19/08/2022 16:55

@Shasha2 ahh I'm with you with tye symptom spotting, currently 6dpo and had a further temp spike this morning, so then obviously got straight onto Google to see if it meant anything 🤔😅

Most comprehensive MOT fertility tests are done at private fertilility clinics, they come under MOT packages sometimes for either the woman or a couple. Can be done for under £400 or so, dependent on the area/fertility clinic. London ones /Harley Street charging more.

LucyFraser1981 · 19/08/2022 17:00

@Shasha2 sorry for your loss 😔 sounds like it was a difficult time for you, bit glad you got through it. Therapy is a wonderful thing, I gave myself therapy sessions for my 40th birthday last year, and they've helped massively. Just winding down with sessions now, think my last one will be after my birthday in a months time. Definitely the most useful present I ever got myself!
I also fell super quick with my son when I was almost 31, so you just assume it'll happen that way again, but I'm almost ten years down the line now 😕 Here's hoping we'll all be lucky! 🤞

LucyFraser1981 · 19/08/2022 17:01

@Anthurium good to know, thank you. Might be something we look at in a few months.

LucyFraser1981 · 19/08/2022 17:02

@Holls81 meant to tag you in my comment above about therapy but it didn't work! Anyway, wishing us all luck 💗🤞

I went to a private clinic up north (it's a chain) and it was 320£. I think if you're in London the same chain is slightly more expensive.

Wasn't great news for us unfortunately, I had low follicle/egg count and DH sperm was poor quality also. He went through chemo a few years ago, so we were kind of expecting that anyway.
I'm sad but also relieved to at least know what we are dealing with now.

LucyFraser1981 · 19/08/2022 21:31

@coldcoldheartt thanks, think we'll look into it next year if no luck by Christmas. We're in Somerset, so hoping not as expensive as London 😬

LucyFraser1981 · 19/08/2022 21:32

@coldcoldheartt and I'm sorry it wasn't the news you hoped for 😔

Shasha2 · 20/08/2022 18:12

@LucyFraser1981 thank you. I never did have therapy after the loss, I suppose I didn’t want to accept it was real. I just focused on having another baby and thankfully I did a year later. But I guess it could be the reason I don’t feel my family is complete, always feeling like one is missing. Now in my 40’s reflecting on that time more I guess.

I didnt want the loss to define my family size, as always wanted 3 children. But I think for dh it was the deciding factor for years, although now he is open to one more.

Shasha2 · 20/08/2022 18:15

@Holls81 you definitely still have time.

Shasha2 · 20/08/2022 18:26

@coldcoldheartt sorry to hear that.

@LucyFraser1981 😂 so hard not to though! It could be a good sign for you!

Holls81 · 20/08/2022 19:06

@Shasha2 that is exactly how I described it to my dh…. Like someone’s missing ❤️

Shasha2 · 20/08/2022 20:34

@Holls81 my mum had me (&twin) at 42. No problems at all. So I’m hoping I have her genes lol🤞

Iusedtobedontcall · 21/08/2022 10:41

I tested positive this morning. Feel confused though because I miscarried 3 weeks ago so maybe it could be hormones left from that. We have been trying though and I did get a positive ovulation test etc. I did have previous negative pregnancy tests after the miscarriage. Can’t get excited though - so will just have to wait.

LucyFraser1981 · 22/08/2022 23:58

@Iusedtobedontcall I'd tentatively be thinking that's an accurate positive, if you've tested negative since your miscarriage? I totally understand not wanting to get excited after such a recent loss 💗 wishing you lots of luck xx
