So good to see more over-40s here. Definitely makes me feel less alone, as all of my friends are spring chicks in their 20s and 30s!

This was my OPK this morning. We did the deed last night (so hard to find the time and energy with a toddler...) so hopefully we should catch ovulation if it happens today.

@Boombangboom That is very useful practical advice - thank you! I'm planning to have some tests done if we haven't conceived by my 41st birthday (two more cycles to go until then). I'm going to bite the bullet and go private - can't afford to wait around.

Robgem81 · 10/01/2022 09:01

I'm 41 this year. I've been ttc number 2 for a year now. We've had 3 mc Sad. Still we continue on. Fell with my son first time at 37. Following him I developed hassimotos so I'm sure that has not helped but seems to be under control. We will be seen in the recurrent miscarriage clinic in March. Not ready to give up yet!

Boombangboom · 10/01/2022 10:23

@Robgem81 have you looked into killer cells and immunes? Please look into this as this may be the cause of you losses. I was treated for high killer cells and only successful pregnancy. Pm me for more details or check out dr Gorgy or, Shehata

Equimum · 10/01/2022 11:42

Hi, I am about t I turn 40. We have two children, but started trying for DC3 last year. Got pregnant straight away but it was a MMC picked up at my 12 week scan. Then had two earlier miscarriages, so not under the recurrent miscarriage team. I'm trying to stay optimistic, but it's really hard!

CherylPorter350 · 10/01/2022 12:12

Does anyone ever feel scared at this age? Especially those who have older DC

Trying81 · 10/01/2022 12:22

@CherylPorter350 Yes

They’re my step children but I do worry that having our own will upset them - and that they’ll feel pushed out, even though I’d make sure that’d never happen

Trying81 · 10/01/2022 12:23

I’m 2DPO (learning the lingo)

First month we’ve tracked properly, and this 2WW is going to be tough as my DH is convinced it’ll work

VMW7859 · 10/01/2022 12:30

Hi ladies. Lovely to see so many of us here! I’m 43 & 12 weeks pregnant today. Please don’t give up trying! I took folic acid & a vitamin B complex everyday for 2 or 3 months before my positive result which I think was my saving grace.

I have a son who’s 13 & my partner has 3 with his ex: 15-12-&7.

His ex asked him if we planned it, which im a little taken aback by - even our family & close friends havent asked us this!

Does anyone else get off questions at our age??!!

Montague22 · 10/01/2022 12:31

@CherylPorter350 scared in which way?

I’m worried I’m pushing my luck as have 3 healthy children and both genders.
Ill have NIPT.
Also it would mean less attention for existing children.
It would mean someone sleeping downstairs.
Might have to cut back on hobbies to fund childcare.

I'm broody though and I'm 40.

TTCafterIVF · 10/01/2022 12:33

Can I join please? Currently TTC naturally aged 40 after having an IVF baby. Chances are extremely low but I have to try.

@Boombangboom do you know what the recommended doseage of folate is? I'm taking folic acid at the moment but would like to switch

1moretry · 10/01/2022 13:46

It's great to hear others stories.
I have some friends ttc but they're a lot younger than me so don't share my urgency!

@Boombangboom thank you, think I'll order that book
.
Can I ask, what's the first fertility help we would get being over 40? And would we be helped much if #1 was conceived naturally (same parents) does anyone know? xx

Robgem81 · 10/01/2022 14:31

@Boombangboom it's definitely something to think about. I am going to start with the recurrent miscarriage clinic and go from there. Is it expensive to go to the people you recommend? Good to know what sort of cost I'm looking at for anything private.

Boombangboom · 10/01/2022 15:56

Yes, the recurrent mc clinic do a lot of tests but I’m not sure they do the full immune tests. It is expensive I’m afraid, the basic test is the Chicago test /killer cells test - which is approx £500 , this shows if you have elevated killer cells ( which can attack embryo) it’s a blood test. I think recurrent mc clinic may or may not do a sample of your womb instead to test for killer cell

Just scared I won't cope with pregnancy at my age, my older DC will feel pushed out etc

Obviously scared it won't happen too

Hi all,

I am 41 and TTC first baby. Have been off the pill since last summer and had a couple of cycles using OPK's before Christmas. At the moment not particularly trying but not preventing as we get married later this year so, just having a couple of months off properly trying so that it doesn't clash, then back to it. I've been using the time at the moment to start tracking my temparature as have never done that before, and to confirm I am ovulating when the apps think I am. I have very regulay 28 days cycles which last 5 days, and temping seems to confirm I ovulate day 16. I'm hoping all that means I am fertile and not a dried up old husk!

Have never had any sort of fertility testing before, am currently debating whether to pay for a private fertility screening anyone else have experiences of them? Think I would like some peace of mind that all seems ok but would equally be nervous of finding out it isn't. Also, thosewho have had tests / screening did you have your partner tested too? Kind of seems pointless without us both being tested but my partner isn't keen on going to be analysed and just remains hopeful that 'it'll happen!'

littlegingerone · 11/01/2022 17:13

@Boombangboom

Hi all, I’m 41 and just wanted to add some advice from my own experience as finally successful with dc 2 after 4mmc and multiple ivf. Read it starts with the egg - dh and I took all the supplements recommended. Ubiquinol and folate rather than coq10 or folic acid I read quite a bit of research on the positive effect of low carb and high protein diet I cut out alcohol and so did dh Get tests done to check your fertility and partners sperm - there can often be a simple issue ( especially with sperm) which can be improved with life style changes Don’t ttc naturally for too long - I was scared of ivf and kept delaying doing it. If you think you might consider it, then look into it sooner rather than later ( it wasn’t as bad as I thought at all) the HFEA website has lots of info on clinics and ivf I wish you all the very best of luck !
Thank you I found that really useful to read and congratulations!!
Fredstheteds · 11/01/2022 17:45

DH was not happy about the whole experience of having his analysed but because it was covid he produced the sample at home (don't think it would have happened elsewhere) then we had to drive quickly to drop it off while I kept it warm 😂

He was reluctant but agreed as we needed to know and haven't got time to wait around. Turns out he was above average on everything (gave him a good boost lol)

TTCafterIVF · 12/01/2022 07:42

@littlegingerone I had private tests before IVF. I think it would be a good idea as it is recommended if you are over 35 and have been trying for 6 months. You can find out what your egg reserve and follicle count is like which will give you an idea of how much time you realistically have before needing to move to IVF. Your periods and OPKs unfortunately won't be a reflection of this. Also you will need to get your partner tested. If there is an issue with him there will be no point in spending more time trying naturally and there is no way of knowing without being tested. I hope that doesn't come across as too blunt but my biggest regret is not getting myself tested sooner!

1moretry · 12/01/2022 20:22

Anyone near the end of the tww?

I'm due af tomorrow and this is the worst time for me as I'm so hopeful. I spend the last 5 days of my cycle ignoring little signs I believe are there whilst deep down believing I'm pregnant.

EVERY SINGLE MONTH!

Trying81 · 13/01/2022 08:03

Have you not tried the early response tests?

I’m only 4 days into the 2WW - trying to keep busy so I’m not thinking about it too much

littlegingerone · 13/01/2022 08:47

No not too blunt at all, I appreciate your reply and it's the sort of advice I need so thank you, I will get onto getting us booked in!

littlegingerone · 13/01/2022 08:50

Thank you for that that's really helpful! It's confirmed that I should stop hanging around and get on with it, if all is good like you say it's a good boost and will motivate us to keep cracking on!

TiredbutTrying41 · 13/01/2022 08:53

Hi. Please can I join? I’m 41 tomorrow and we are TTC no. 2. I have a DS who is 3. We’re only on cycle 1 and I had covid so only managed to DTD once near ovulation. Testing Saturday morning when I will be 12 DPO.
Got sore boobs and had cramps on Tuesday but who knows if this is just pre-menstrual or early symptoms haha.
