Scan photo - confusion

Hi Everyone

I hope this is in the right place and that my rambling makes sense.

We went for our first scan on Monday (first pregnancy) and all went well. Quick scan, lady said the heartbeat is all ok and viable pregnancy. Felt a little bit rushed and I couldn't really see much due to mask and glasses flogging plus lots of grey but maybe I was expecting a little too much, tummy wiped and out of the door. I asked about a photo and was told they will be emailed across and theres a charity box for donations. Perfect, received the scan picture today and can see where baby is, but I expected to see a little bit more I guess. I have googled 12 week scans and you can clearly see that baby is well a baby. My LO just looks like a dot. I have seen a few family members scans and ones from friends and they look like babies.... am I being silly or is this normal? Willing to be told I need to give my head a wobble, I just expected a little bit more development I guess. My last period was 23rd Jan and due date given is Oct 29th. Will try and upload a photo now if I can hide the identifying information as we havent shared our news yet either. Thank you all :)

Goodness what a roller coaster. Good luck with the next scan.

VixFromThe6ix · 22/04/2021 17:41

I just read through all the pages and I don't have anything to add as neither of my pregnancies made it past week 6 so I dunno what it would look like, but I just wanted to comment my support. I can't imagine the emotional rollercoaster this can be. Hope you get your answers soon and I hope everything will be just fine. Big big hugs to you

swiftt · 22/04/2021 17:52

This is all quite bizarre. I wouldn’t be happy to wait until next week. None of this seems normal at all, and I would want some answers ASAP.

SirVixofVixHall · 22/04/2021 18:16

Seems pretty likely that is someone else’s scan pic.
Thank goodness your midwife is on the case.

PinkCookie11 · 22/04/2021 18:18

Yeah I agree a week is a long time.
Are you able to go for a private in the mean time and get correct measurements for peace of mind before next week?
I don’t think I could hang about

PineappleSun · 22/04/2021 18:21

If it is your photo could it be a top of the head shot? Here's mine looking down at the brain at 12 weeks, doesn't explain the yolk sack though.

So glad you’re getting another scan!

Benfoldspomped · 22/04/2021 18:35

Glad to hear you're getting another scan. Hope it puts your mind at rest.

MyDcAreMarvel · 22/04/2021 19:13

Very odd situation, glad you are getting another scan.

SunshineCake · 22/04/2021 19:14

I hope your scan date comes around quickly and that you get a lovely picture along with confirmation that Baby is ok.

I would also be asking what would be done about your whole experience as it was a nightmare. Maybe not your scan but your details, told to go private, etc.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 22/04/2021 19:18

So is there someone else who has had an early viability scan sitting looking at a picture of a 12-week old foetus?Confused

You’d hope they’d get in touch with the hospital too so two and two could be put together.

frumpety · 22/04/2021 19:18

She has spoken to hospital dept and they can't confirm if they are my images or not without seeing me

Oh really ? Is that the same for every scan picture they do then ?

SmidgenofaPigeon · 22/04/2021 19:20

But I’m still so confused as to how your name and date of birth (and presumably someone else’s too) has seemingly been lost in the system and not added to any scan images. They ask you to confirm this at least once.

Aprilshowersandhail · 22/04/2021 19:36

I hope a poor woman who thought she was a few weeks hasn't got your 12 week pics!
..

Normando91 · 22/04/2021 19:42

Hi OP, glad to hear you’re getting another scan and they’re looking into this. For what it’s worth, I had a scan just before 8 weeks as we couldn’t establish the exact date of my LMP and thought I was further along. At this scan, my baby looked like a gummy bear, but you could still clearly make out the general shape of a baby.

Hope you get sorted soon and see your little one ☺️🧡

Winterbaby21 · 22/04/2021 19:45

What a bizarre experience, I'm sorry your first scan turned out this way OP.

I hope you get the answers you need next week, in the mean time try not to stress as the very least (I know, I know) you know that you have a healthy pregnancy and heartbeat.

Bigdreamer9 · 22/04/2021 19:45

This is all very confusing. What did you see on the screen when they scanned you? Was it more than the yolk sac as shown in the scan images? Did they talk you through the different parts of the baby and take the nuchal measurement? They also would have measured and dated you. If you did go through all of the above then it’s more than likely a mix up with scans emailed over.

Larryslockdownlunch · 22/04/2021 19:46

This must be very stressful for you and I'm sorry you have had this service. Fingers crossed your scan next week will give you some reassurance.
This is my 12 week scan from last year. Whatever they sent you doesn't look like a 12 week scan!

Covidworries · 22/04/2021 19:48

Hi, I just wanted to comment on the heart shaped womb. If this is correct.

I have this (bicornuate uterus is the medical term) in my case the dropped part of the heart is all the way to bottom and I have one tube only. I was told it is more likely to go into early labour (simular to twin pregnancy) but this didn't happen. I did however only carry on one side, my bump was only on the half side of the viable womb section. I was also told the baby would likely be breach and I would need a C section. This was true in my case but this will depend on many factors and the severity of the heart shape.

Greenrubber · 22/04/2021 20:03

I know one person who has a heart shaped womb she has had 2 children

Kona84 · 22/04/2021 20:04

@HaveringWavering I read your comment about getting a print out with measurements.
I had my 12 week scan 2 weeks ago and didn’t receive a print out.
I got the photos and everything I okay.
I’m worried now that I should have picked up a print out.
Did everyone else get the print out?

Thefaceofboe · 22/04/2021 20:07

@Kona84 my print out is stuck in my orange book, so I couldn’t of seen it unless I looked for it. Could it be with your notes?

wingingit987 · 22/04/2021 20:15

Hospital sounds like a absolute shambles I would consider making a a complaint.

Hope you get an appointment soon xx

5zeds · 22/04/2021 20:16

I don’t think that’s your scan picture at all. By 12 weeks you see a baby shape in the fuzzyness. Angry

Kona84 · 22/04/2021 20:28

I don’t have an orange book.
I have a wallet with some leaflets and where I keep my appointments. I have my maternity journey card too but the only thing the sonographer wrote on that was my due date.
I’ll phone tomorrow to see if I can get a copy sent to me
